Swing weight is literally a measure of how difficult it is to rotate the racket around the end of the grip. That's it. The number is proportional to weight times the distance from the end of the grip square. 10 grams in the butt won't change swing weight hardly at all since distance is basically zero.
@LarzB
@LarzB Жыл бұрын
Small correction, swing weight is the measure how much the racket will resist changing the swing speed. So it will resist acceleration more with a higher swing weight and it will resist slowing down more as well. It's about changing the swing speed.
@robg7892

@@LarzB what you are explaining is just mass. Or colloquially, weight. Mass is the resistance to changes in speed.
@LarzB

@@robg7892 no, static weight is mass. That is the weight you feel pulling down to the earth due to gravity. The higher swing weight makes you feel slower as it takes more effort to accelerate the racket head. Swing weight is a measure of inertia. Which exists in 3 ways. Swing weight, spin weight and twist weight. And all 3 inertia manifest themselves as a resistance to change in their corresponding rotation axis. Swing weight in the horizontal rotation speed changes, the spin weight in the spin wipe direction speed changes and twist weight in the direction of twisting the racket around its length axis.
@robg7892

@@LarzB okay dude. Thanks for the advance course in moment of inertia, which is exactly what I described in my first comment. It is the resistance to changes in rotational speed. 🤦‍♂️. Mass is literally defined as the amount of inertia of an object, and is a measure of how hard it is to change it's speed, it just also happens to be proportional to the effect of gravity too. I'm not going to reply to you anymore. You win.

I moved to a higher swing weight and I noticed it right away on the court. I’m hitting much flatter than before. I love hitting with tons spin. It would be nice though to hit with topping AND have it be heavy/penetrating . So would I have to just swing faster with the head heavy racquet to do so? I don’t play too frequently we’re it would hurt me anyways. Ironically because I was hitting flat, I ended up decreasing my swing speed which made the ball even flatter 😂 I have not tried to increase my swing speed thinking that would make the ball even flatter

To general info in video. its more complicated than that. Rule of Thumb: Higher swingweight = better player. Though...... beginner rackets has head heavy balance as they are light weight over all and they reduce the mostly the weight where there is no ball impact to not take away to much stability and so there is still power from racket. Thsi means you can buy a racket that weighs 270 with 300 swingweight (SW) With Intermidiate players you have more even balanced at 34 cm strung/33 cm unstrung racket and the racket will weigh 285-300 gram and may also 300-310 swingweight. With very advanced players you typically have a racket weighing 320 grams. Now the balance is typically only 31 cm unstrung-32 cm strung, such the swingweight is not getting redicoulus by having headlight balance. Whether you want to hit flat or with spin then is all in the technique and level of you.

Do you think your spasmodic, chronic late-hit forehand might be (partly) down to using far too heavy a racquet than you should? It looks like you’re not able to get to contact in time in most of your forehands. You can’t even get the timing right with a stock racquet as it is. Fix your technique than fixate about lead. Spend enough time on this channel and you’ll hear Harry constantly bragging about how he loves lead, can’t use anything but 2x4s, very heavy racquets etc. He sells himself as some sort of authority on customisation. Yet no one competent in customisation would do what he does. There are many gains to be had fine tuning racquet specs to an individual player’s needs. Eg: tendency to get to contact too early (framed shots on the upper hoop that go out cross court), small bit of lead at 1200 can help to slow the tip down leading to better impact timing. Yet here on TS, we have a “gear expert” with a chronically late hit technique who keeps droning on about his need for weight, when even with light weight racquets, his contact is way late. 🤷‍♂️

I understand customisation, but when a racket is so heavily customise doesn't it just indicate that the racket is wrong for you? Customising a racket is normal, but when every spare space has weight added to it, it's basically a different racket. It confuses me as to why one doesn't get racket closer to the weight preferred, that also has the touch you're looking for.
@raychayyc

The rackets in his selection are meant more for intermediate or advanced players. He should probably be using a power or game improvement racket instead of customizing these rackets. A little lead is ok but he adds way too much.

@enematwatson1357

No, or not quite. Swingweight is sensitive to where the masses are located in a way that balance is not. Frames with identical weight and balance can still have different swingweights depending on how centralised (close to the balance point) vs polarised (towards the extremities) the masses are. Swingweight depends on the square of the distance from the pivot point whereas balance is just distance.

Swingweigh we know🤣🤣🤣what about twistweight ?
@silviosarunic3234
@silviosarunic3234 Жыл бұрын
Swingweight is a dynamic parameter, which can be defined as the moment of inertia I, also known as the rotational inertia. Rotational inertia of a rigid body (racket) is used to determine how much torque is needed to achieve the desired angular acceleration about the rotational axis. Let’s take a look at the axes of the racket again. The moment of inertia of a rigid composite system is the sum of the moments of inertia of its component subsystems that are at the distance r from the same axis. Now we can write down the general equation for the moment of inertia. Ip=∭ρ(x,y,z)⋅||r||2dxdydz (1) There are 2 parts of the equation. The first is the integration of the density over the whole volume of the racket, which represents mass, and the second part is the radius or distance r of the mass particle from the rotational axis. For the purpose of racket modification, we don’t need the equation in this form, and we can write down a discretized form. Ipy=∑ni=1(mi(ri,y)2) (2) Now we get the expression for the moment of inertia I around the axis Y, as the sum of moments of inertia of all the mass components. In practice, those mass components can be strips of lead, vibration dampener, strings etc. that are at distance r from the Y-axis. But in tennis, we use swingweight, which is just a moment of inertia about the parallel axis to the Y-axis, as shown in the picture below. We can see that the parallel axis is 10 cm from the axis Y. This is just the industry standard or I should say an arrangement. The axis is set at a distance of 10 cm because of the way we hold the racket, and the pivot point of the racket is not about Y-axis. Of course, this depends on the grip style we use, how big are our hands etc., but we need some common grounds to characterize rackets. If you know the moment of inertia about any given axis, you can calculate it about any other parallel axis. The final expression for swingweight is as follows. SW=∑ni=1(mi(xB,i−10cm)2)
