Very educational video!, it would have been perfect if they included the Murray racket, since Harry also owns one of those!

I see some people asking about the retail RF97. My batch of matched v11 measures within +/-1 RA in both the vertical stiffness and horizontal stiffness as the signed RF97 seen in this video. My batch of matched v13 RF97 are within +/-1 RA as well. Hope this helps!
@movdqa Жыл бұрын
I did a test drive of the RF97 and I found it comfortable despite the stiffness and I think that the good twistweight compensates for the stiffness.

The fact that the RA test machine clamps the handle of the racket that has variable levels of cushion depending on the racket introduces a variable that isn’t being taken into account. When it presses down on the tip the handle wants to move upward. A very thick cushioned grip will compress allowing the actual handle portion of the shaft to move upwards slightly this will allow the tip to move downwards more giving the racket a more flexible reading. A way to test to see if this is actually happening is to take a racket and test it three times. 1) With a cushion replacement grip and over grip. 2) leather grip only. 3) No grip at all. Clamp directly on the pallet. If the test numbers come out the same for all three tests then I’m wrong and forget what I said. If the test comes out with different numbers then it means the test in the future should be carried out using a standardized grip or the RA number needs to be handicapped depending on the type of grip on the racket during testing. If my theory is correct a racket will test stiffest when tested with no grip on it.

Would multiple grips make a stiff racket less stiff
@Dasato123 Жыл бұрын
@@andyv6299 the actual stiffness of the racket wouldn’t change. But I’m thinking that the machine would give it a less stiff rating number because of the give in the cushioning of the handle as the rackets tip is pushed down. In this test the racket is actually a lever. The middle cross bar that it rests on near the throat is the fulcrum or pivot. As the tip gets pushed down the handle wants to pivot upwards. For the old Wilson “SI” stiffness rating it was said the number was obtained by clamping the racket’s handle and then suspending a kilo of weight at the tip. How much the racket bent downward from its starting position in millimeters was the rackets SI rating. Thus a original Wilson Profile a very stiff racket only bent down 2.7 mm. While a Clash would bend down 11 mm which is it’s SI rating number. What the actual RA number represents I’ve never heard explained. But that’s not really important since the RA number is used to compare the stiffness of different rackets to each other.

I would like to see a video comparing the stiffness of the rackets that the big 3 use on court to the rackets that we can buy on the market to know if they make big changes on their rackets, like Novak does

One of my clubs has tennis ball recycling boxes in the lobby. I'll try to do a video on it this week as I have to pick up a racquet there and drop off some used tennis balls. Also, one of my former partners taught special ed and he used them on chairs as some of his kids don't like additional sounds. I had one guy at work that took a couple of cans as he has dogs.

ra meaasuring is useless. its only one number in 1 point. tells nothing about a racquet

@@vscope But it's the only spec u can't modify. unlike weight, balance or grip size
@vscope Жыл бұрын
@@zcz2223 i see your point but what does a ra value tell you about a racquet? for instance a small head 18x20 ra 62 racquet might be more stiff than a 100 inch open 16x19 ra 68 racquet at impact. a soft small head 18x20 low tw will be more harsh on off center impacts than a high tw stiffer 100inch 16x19 frame. Ra value changes even when using different basegrips. Use a leather grip and ra will rise... use a soft basegrip and ra will be lower. if you want to compare raquet stiffness its better to use the racquet frequency. however this value doesnt take the stringbed influence in account either.

The Head racket had a broken string, surely that must have an effect on the vertical stiffness, as would string tension and type, there is not much stretch in poly but plenty in artificial gut.
@louiselouboutin9045 Жыл бұрын
can you do this for the entire wilson clash range both v1 and v2's? be interesting to see if the vertical stiffness is different from the stock RA and whether wilson's QC is close to the RA in the specifications. wonder if it is possible to test the twist stiffness given the clash flex's 3 ways 3D

RA measures 2-3pts higher on an unstrung hoop. Broken string will mean that the hoop measures a little stiffer.
