Wow. That was so wonderful, so helpful and inspiring! Just like the last time you invited Vinny Ferraro on. Thank you, Dan, for introducing me to meditation, to Joseph Goldstein and Vinny Ferraro (both virtually, albeit powerfully) and to so many other wonderful meditation teachers. I am so grateful for the work you do! Thank you!

I listened on a long drive yesterday, and I'm going to watch & listen today. So many things I need to write down, unpack, post, recite...etc. This is really landing. Thank you Dan & Vinny.

I’ve been a lay Buddhist for many years now, so the concept is not new. However after listening I noticed how speedy I became- like I’ve got to get things done because who knows how long I have??? Then a huge ahhhh haaa- getting stuff done is not the point. Slowing down and getting the most out of each moment is the teaching- savoring what is here now! This episode should have had a trigger warning!!

I take so many notes when Dan speaks with Vinny. "How loyal have I been to my own suffering?" from their last talk is still on a Post-It where I can see it every day while working. Thank you, Dan and Vinny.

What a great idea! I need to follow your example. There have been so many nuggets of wisdom in this podcast. It’s so easy to forget and move on, but the Post It will keep it fresh. Thanks for sharing!

Empowering! Reminded me of my lowest point, facing death straight in the face and deciding to live and how I experienced the fear of death float off of me instantly. Thank you!

The part about tatoos to remember things reminded me of the 2001 movie "Memento." That movie is actualy a great study about what we awaken from. Lenny has a condition where he can't form new memories. He has to frantically keep notes, polaroids (tatoos). Basically, we're seeing him externalize what EVERYONE does internally. His self-talk can't be maintained in his head, he has to do it for all to see. And thoughout the movie, his "condition" is contrasted with Sammy who has the same condition, but doesn't have a plan. Sammy just goes along with it, forgetting what happened 5 minutes ago, not reemembering any recent history. Everything's new. You have to watch this movie 10-20 times to put it together. But, Sammy's basically a buddha, blissful, accepting what is (not burdened by his conditioning). Lenny's the default mode (frantically trying to make the narrative work, and even "editing" the narrative to fit his needs - all while insisting that his externalized notes are "facts"). There's a scene where Lenny's confronted with what he's doing. He KNOWS its true, and he has a choice to stop or amend a "fact" to keep it going. He chooses to keep it going. It's all very relatable to the human condition that the buddha makes us aware of. (Of course, that's not the same as Vinnie's reminders to himself. Reminders aren't bad. It just reminded me of that movie and how much meaning that movie has to me on this topic of awakening.).
