More smoothness when idle or just driving, feels like the power has been brought back to my vehicle, Ive used Castrol GTX, Mobil 1, Pennzoil & I feel like nothing has done better then RP for my 2012 Ram 5.7L Hemi. I use to have a 2001 Ford Mustang 3.8L V6 5 speed manual that I bought from a friend he only trusted Pennzoil but not after I bought it from him & gave it the RP treatment. I have been using Royal Purple in my vehicles for 20 years. I do think it is one of the best on the market. I build my own engines for street use and performance upgrades for over 30 years. I get my oil tested by Blackstone Labs after every oil change for my vehicles. That is the only real way to know if the oil is protecting the engine. I would also recommend Royal Purple HPS series. It has all the good anti wear and lubricant additives that are stripped out due to the EPA in the API rated oils. I also think Mobil 1 is a good alternative to Royal Purple. I have had it tested with good results. I have never used Amsoil, so no real world experience with it. However, when I started using Royal Purple, Amsoil at the time was blocking 3rd party labs from testing and publishing the results. You could only get test results directly from Amsoil. Royal Purple allowed 3rd parties to test their lubricants and publish the results. That was one thing that caused me to choose RP over Amsoil. That was many years ago so they may be different today.

Dropped all the oil drop out of an engine with 220k miles due to a plug falling out during rush hour traffic with royal purple in it. (my fault, got side tracked and didn't tighten it) Oil pressure light came on and I had no shoulder to pull off for 6-8 miles through interchanges. It would have been a bad day for everybody else if I stopped in the middle of the lane. Thought the engine was toast because I could hear the pistons making horrible sounds by the time I could shut it down. Slightly turned it over with the starter from time to time as it cooled down. Plugged the hole in the pan on the side of the road and filled it up with whatever I could get my hands on to drive it home. It drove but decided that night I was going to sell it before it got worse. Depending on how bad it was I'd be selling it to a greasy used car lot or if it was mostly okay I'd sell it privately with disclosure. Did a leak down test and still had less than 15% loss on the valves and rings and all cyl lined up with each other. Put magnets on everything and cut all of the filters apart for 4 x 5k oil changes without metal flakes in anything. Even looked down a the walls with a scope and saw nothing. Its basically fine so I never ended up selling it. That was about 20k miles ago and since then I've rebuilt the whole front end. Whole car drives like it did when it was brand new. I have no idea how that engine survived and I can't really say for sure it was due to RP. But that became a bit of a data point for me personally. I put it in everything now.

I inherited my mother's 98 Grand Am GT coupe back in '12. Only had 80k on it and it was still like new. Traveling 140 miles a day between Pa and Md for work it became my beater. Pennzoil Platinum immediately changed every 2k for first three changes. Blackstone lab sample at third change. Oil leaks riddled, then stopped. I switched to Amzoil 0w30 for winter. By 242k miles in early 2018 I decided to sell it. The V6 did not loose ANY oil in 5k mile intervals. NAPA or K&N filter always. According to final oil sample the motor showed no additional wear from beginning to end. I never drove before warmed up but, I was not easy on this car by any means. By that I'm saying... It saw 6k rpm pretty regularly maneuvering highway traffic average speeds 80-100 cruise. (Keeping up with traffic) I stayed with Pennzoil Platinum not because of price, rather the consensus by fact and lab report that Royal Purples OCI must be closer together because the additive package tends to fade faster and show wear sooner. OTOH, I've seen proof on a Modular 3v 4.6 treated to Royal Purple at 35k miles cams have no wear. As in ZERO. No silver on lobes... Nothing. Whereas another also with aftermarket cams running AMZOIL did and lobes were shiny like all cams should... so?!?
@ToxicA55hat5 жыл бұрын
Comparing 2 engines with different or unknown maintenance records is kinda not a comparison. Every oil has different additive packages. Choosing the right oil for it's additives will net you the results you are asking from that oil. examples: If you need sludge and build up removal. You should choose an oil with higher levels of detergents. If you are breaking in an engine you should choose an oil with higher levels of Zinc. If you are daily driving your vehicle with moments of spirited driving. Choose a well balanced quality oil and change it at recommended intervals. If you are at the track or strip regularly, use high performance oils more resistant to thermal breakdown. There is no miracle oil that does everything really good. The idea of using a high detergent oil to clean an (unknown maintenance schedule)high mileage engine for a short period of time is just good common sense. The oil condition gives you tons of information as to the condition of the engine. This is the 21st century. For a very small cost. You can have your oil analysed. This will tell you exactly how your oil and filter are performing. If you have bearing material, ring material, sleeve material, thermal breakdown, fuel, water, exhaust gas contamination... everything you need to know... Relying on opinions about how oils perform in unknown conditions is just not effective. When you can get the facts from a simple oil sample when you change the oil.

Clean out oil? The key is a series of frequent oil and filter changes at low mileage intervals, 1500-2000 miles. Just use a high detergent conventional like Pennzoil with low OCIs. No sense wasting money on expensive synthetic oils to clean. Do the clean up with conventional then run your synthetics. As for the best oil to use afterwards? No way of telling unless you perform oil analysis. You can rave about RP but what does a UOA reveal about how it runs in your particular engine?
@noclass2gun3425 жыл бұрын
The idea of running a high grade synthetic is to extend maintenance intervals and increase overall service life. Sorry to inform you but there isnt a conventional oil available that is comparable to synthetic. That's why it's cheap. My oldie is a Taurus Vulcan V6 3L has 276k, and never saw other than the cheapest Valvoline whitebottle and Penzoil Yellow bottle. Every 6 -7 k miles. That's it, only cheap dino oils on it. It ran like a charm, rebuilt tranny once. Saved a bunch compared with boutique oils.

@@cmte.brazinazzo2061 Valvoline must have changed a lot. I mean a whole lot. I've seen more 2.3 liter Ford cams shot by 75,000 miles than I care to remember. They ran Valvoline 10w40 and changed oil regularly. I stopped using it just a few years prior to this and was using Havoline 10w40. I also had a car with a Ford 2.3 liter car at the time. I checked the cam at 77,000 and it looked like new. The last I knew the engine has outlasted 3 car bodies. I switched several friends over to Havoline and received no complaints. For today's engines that use synthetic oils I use Castrol Fully Synthetic. Mobil 1 is a great engine oil as well.

Oil doesn’t matter change it often. I have 5.3 Chevy intentionally changed brand and weigh of the oil every change. 206,600 mile no oil related issues.

I agree. I have a 2010 Venza, had it since 50,000 miles. It gets whatever synthetic is on sale. It's at 175,000 now and runs like the day I bought it. Lately I've been using Supertech 20k mile oil. I drain it at 5k, and it's barely turning color at that point.

RP is good oil. I don’t race but I use it all our cars. Audi s8, g35, and Q50s. However I do feel that it’s as good as any other good synthetic oil. Before RP I was using castrol synthetic Gtx and I do feel that idle was a little better with castrol but rest is the same. Thousands of miles on both oils.
@AgiDaKinG5 жыл бұрын
But remember people, changing your oil regularly and using a decent filter is more important than what brand of oil you get. But with that being said I ran royal purple in my Silverado for awhile and when I was changing out the cam and valve springs the first thing my step dad and I noticed was how clean it was. I've since switched over to Shell Rotella now that I'm turbocharged but it might be worth running some royal purple every few oil changes for a cleaning.

Once I bougth a old New Yorker, changed the oil, drove 100 miles and it was black, changed it again, went to 500 miles, black again, changed again..I'm guessing it looked like the ebay engine. Also, had an old 1953 packard and an old book on car care whcih said- warm engine, drop oil, run 10 weight (you could buy it on the shelf back inthe 80's, drop that and refill....after 2 min, that 10 weight was black

I drive a 2018 Ford fiesta...and the only oil I use is royal purple 5w20 paired with a Wix filter. The oil interval is every 10000 miles, buuut I change it every 3000 to 3500 miles. Iv taken the head and oil pan off multiple times (upgraded cams,valves and springs, also the oil pan when I upgraded the oil pump to a heavier duty oil pump. I have around 6000 miles on the cams and still the lobes look brand new. I know it's not alot of miles on them but the royal purple is worth the money in my book. Some might not agree but that's what makes the motorsports scene awesome. Work with what you have and make it do what you want. Royal purple has always delivered for me.

Just did an oil change on my 2017 Buick Regal GS. This will be my first time trying ROYAL PURPLE and the reason I didn’t get the AMSOIL is because the Royal Purple is more widely available at retailers than the Amsoil.

I used royal purple in my old 5.0. After I blew the engine messing around with a dry 100 shot. The machine shop that built rebuilt my engine called me and asked me how old the engine was and what oil I used. Told him I got the car with 70k miles and had been running royal purple in it since the day I got it. I blew it up at around 180k miles. Dude said everything was still within factory specs except for the melted piston. Said he'd never seen a motor in such good condition. A few years ago I got a mach 1 and couldn't immediately find royal purple so I used mobile 1 and decided to keep using it just because it was more available. When I went to a teksid block I tore down my old engine and everything was clean as hell. So I stick to royal purple and mobile one.

Just a point - you should never lay a crankshaft on its side like that uninstalled. They are stored on the end to eliminate warpage. Ask any machine shop. If let too long like that it will warp and become junk.
@bones65545 жыл бұрын
If your that worried about it don't buy one from a store. I work for a shipping company and we get pallet loads of them. None of them are standing on end and are stacked on top of one another, skids weigh around 2500lbs. I know they are packaged for shipping but they are stacked about 4 to 5 foot high. Theese things ride (bounceing) in back of tractor trailers riding down the highway.

@patdennis37515 жыл бұрын
Just kick it down occasionally while passing or getting on the freeway. No need to run WOT for more than several seconds a few times a week to keep the carbon blown out. If you use top tier fuel like Shell and an oil designed for turbo engines, you won't get all that carbon build up on pistons and valves. .

Mr Farmer2012 you might find with high milage engines that some of your dirt/sludge/carbon buildup may actually be sealing your engine from oil leaks, RP might be cleaning all that buildup away and letting oil leak from the engine.
