This is how magic is done, it's done by hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering it's a feather bed.

dont you just LOVE this man? His combined ability to recognise vast concepts plus intergrate them with other vast concepts PLUS articulate them in such a poetic manner as to make them clear for others less gifted. I have a curious and very warm love for him. Like a favourite uncle i never had. He makes me realise how we are missing substantial 'elders' in our culture... Imagine if we could be raised by people akin to Terrence Mckenna. God bless you T.Mck...

Your comment is 13 years old and still holds true. I’ve felt for years that we are missing an elder leadership(s) in our world, one that isn’t binding to the big game we play. What a powerful mind he was and proves to still be as his words echo through the years after his passing. Truly one of the greatest minds to come through the veil

"Nature Loves Courage" a great statement to make for a society the misunderstand the purpose of emotions that they consider them as something where an individual requires courage to face them. It's not courage we require but understanding. But as we have solidified beliefs of what how emotions are, we now need the courage to face them. Emotions have always been there to help us, but we have made negative emotions our internal enemies. The greatest trick we have played on ourselves. All negative emotions mean "we do not understand"

I don't agree with all the mystical ideas, but nevertheless they are beautiful and inspiring. Do I really believe that a mechanism of nature will help me along if I use courage? No. I do however think courage can overcome obstacles. Courage makes nature's obstacles small and mediocre, easily crushed. Thank you Terence for your poetry and inspiration. You help move me when it seems bleak.

brilliant. he's so right! i've known that sense of courage and witnessed nature supporting me almost magically (once leading to a film I made in the Amazon).... BUT oh how we forget... oh how we slip back into the conditioned 'safe' ways. but time to break out again!! thanks Terance! :)

That's correct Joa,i have the utmost respect for Terence, and know that he was an enlightened wise thinker. I realise my last post can be misunderstood. what i wanted to say was that the the world rewards those that chase their dreams, for if they chase them they are in with a chance of getting them, as opposed to those that give into fear in all its forms like talking or worrying instead....which yield nothing...

Excellent post Nick! I think you hit the nail on the head; the rewards for those who will challenge themselves to really go after something are huge! Usually, many of the most formidable seeming obstacles between us and whatever we attempt, can be traced to our own mindset, with fears being our biggest impediments. Which is why we should all try to do something we find somewhat scary as often as we can. Of course, we need common sense to avoid taking that to destructive extremes.

It's a metaphor, the shamanic dance is the shamanic path in life, towards God and the deeper levels of life; and the Waterfall is a metaphor for healing energies, the state of becoming, and God.

Make sure you do what you think of as the most scary thing for you to do. Well, not THE most scary thing, I suppose. But something, something that scares you. As someone who has feared damn near everything at one point or another, and has done at least somethings that have scared me, I encourage everyone to believe Terence. And I did tell society to fuck off, when I quit school in grade 12. I am proud of that, actually.

A period before lunch, to satisfy our munchie cravings. We did it everyday and eventually expelled. Throught that summer, I started smoking alone, I started to question our world, people's way of life, lifestyle, laws, religion. Examining the world through the monacle of Cannabis. I somehow started to listen to McKenna's teachings, he blew my mind away. I too jumped the off the cliff, when I was faced with my return to Mexico. I didn't wanted to leave the confort of a modern Babylon. But I did.

Beautifull words, very uplifting, i usualy hate music on Mckenna videos, but on this video (and only this video) it helps to make his words more epic and inspiring. Society and institutions can be a helpfull distraction to many people, but sometimes they can be negative and suppress peoples self believe. We should belive in ourselves, most of us know the potential for what we can achieve in life, and where we want to be, but how many of us can get to that plateau.

I got a job teaching piano lessons and through that toe hold on a non-back-breaking job, got my music degree, an ARCT. Lots of ways to get started on things - my parents and my former employer both lent me some thousands back when I was 21 (67 now) and I was able to save money on my own, so I bought a successful pizza store years ago. School sucks and is over-rated in so many ways, but it entitles you like nothing else, I'll say that for it. Better, though, to believe in yourself instead!

To the guy below, maybe it is true, but people just Dont have enough courage to dive like he says. I for one know what he's talking about from experience, and you don't just dive once. I still have things I need to dive into. It's a mental thing. Your perception makes what's real around you. So shape it with a courageous attitude!

Yeah when we concept ourselves as a possibility of harmony in what we call life the denial of it is the mistake. Is like is our own faul in the sense we don´t know what we are doing. Though on not knowing what we are doing is not entirely our faul, so there comes unconditional love as our last resource to avoid being asses with ourselves: self-compassion is not a mistake, is a must.

I was scared to leave the U.S. I found myself as a illegal alien from Mexico, my parents took me there at a young age. Since I grew up there, my mind was filled with trash, false hopes and dreams, childish perceptions on what I thought the world was, a lost child trying to find acceptance and fame from others like me. It wasn't till 8th that started to get into weed. My friends and I would smoke as much as we could get our hands on, we would even skip classes to smoke.

Commentary: Mediocrity is gone. Mind is clear of limitation. I seek no state of enlightenment. Neither do I remain where no enlightenment exists. Since I linger in neither condition, eyes cannot see me. If hundreds of birds strew my path with flowers, such praise would be meaningless.
