I’m not surprised. There was a cast member who was languishing from sepsis in the hospital. He was terminated for no call no show, because Disney rejected his medical leave form because of a typo on it.

I have autism and I’m totally blind. I can’t stand in lines for extended periods of time. On a recent trip to Disney World I was denied that disability pass, twice. They spoke with me about the return to cue option. When I talked to cast members in the park, they had no idea what that was. According to the cast member I spoke with over the phone, they don’t give it to you based on your diagnosis. They give it to you based on symptoms you have. And they don’t accept doctors notes either.

I was denied DAS today at Disneyland and the cast member treated me so badly. She was rude, crass and impatient. I asked her for her name and place she is from and she said she rather not and hid her name tag. I told her it was just for documentation and I would never complain. I’ve been approved for DAS many times before the switch. It’s such a huge betrayal. I was just looking into joining DVC, to buy over 300 points and having a Disney wedding as well as hosting all wedding events with at least 200 guest . We were even thinking about renting out a ride for our guest as well. None of it feels right to do anymore. I cried for hours at the park. And the thing is with DAS I only ride about 2-3 rides when I visit. I have an inspire magic key and I don’t see myself renewing. Nor the DVC and definitely not my wedding. Some may say why not just buy a lighting lane then and just shut up. It is the principle. It is discriminatory to accommodate a type of disability and not others! Who’s to say certain people struggle more than others. It’s just not right and I can’t stand behind this and stay silent!

Not that I ever plan on going back to the parks (not the American ones at least), but as someone with autism, I would gladly give up my space to someone like that woman's father, or anyone with a more physical disability. Disney's attitude just gets more gross every day, I swear.
@YeahYeahBeebisI

and no one on the mental health awareness front EVER asked for this. I wouldn't be surprised is Disney made this change knowing people with physical disabilities would have the least options outside of trying to cobble some make-shift solution paying for Disney Lightning Lane. It's the thinnest veil around their real intent. Disney is a rotten company and this is their latest move.

@YeahYeahBeebisI at this point, I'd rather just go to my tiny, local amusement park. It might not have the IP or fancy rides, but the wait times are so short, you can ride as many times as you want. At a fraction of the price too. Disney just isn't worth it anymore, no matter how many ways you look at it, unless you have the means to go to Paris or Tokyo. And I'd still rather do and see other things than Disney if I was traveling overseas.

My husband and I are both ND with physical disabilities, and an upcoming trip. We were planning on using DAS until the changes - in fact we chose a Disney vacation specifically because of the accommodations offered. But I've been following it extremely closely and it's quite disturbing. They're not even granting a large number of autistic people's DAS. So many stories of people with autism diagnosis being told they don't "look autistic", or "if you understand what a line is, you don't qualify", to being flat out told "if that's what you experience, maybe Disney isn't for you", along with many other offensive excuses for rejection. To make matters even more insulting, you can't apply for DAS unless you've already paid for your trip, so it's not like you can back out if they deny you. Plus, in order to apply you have to sign a contract saying you waive your right to participate in any class action lawsuits against DAS. The increased stress of facing that sort of dehumanizing interrogation made us not even bother trying. We have no idea if the accommodations we're trying to provide ourselves will allow us to enjoy the parks to the extent that DAS would allow. But this may be my last trip, which is sad because I grew up in Orlando and the parks are part of my history.

I agree in both aspects. My son has autism so I saw first hand how much it's abused at busier parks like Disney and Cedar Point. I think they should allow a lot more conditions but I also think they should only allow 1-2 passes per year per park to limit the abuse. Disney literally brought my family to happy tears bc with the old DAS I could experience Disney like a somewhat normal guest and participate with them for once. It’s sad that that possibility is gone now. Without DAS, I’m also not sure how cast members would know everyone who needs extra assistance or a special ride vehicle. Cast member here. We have to turn down a lot of people when they come to the rides. It's a terrible process not just for guests but the ones at the rides that have to feel the heat from people being denied. We offer return to queue for guests with disabilities that do not have DAS if they need it as mentioned in the video. Disney as a company wanted to outlaw DAS because, true, it was incredibly easy to get and forced standby to longer than usual waits. That's the only I see in favor of severely limiting DAS but it really just hurts most people that need it. I feel so bad sometimes when we have guests come to the ride and they ask for a return time for non-accessible related conditions and we have to say you can wait in the 2 hour line. They didn’t try to get out of a death lawsuit. It’s in the my Disney contract that we all have signed and agreed to that if we sue Disney it can only be done through mediation. Large companies like them have to protect themselves from all types of lawsuits. They spend a lot of money in and out of court and I can see why they went that route. Most of the lawsuits have been really unnecessary like the dream key one. Anyways like the person above me said it wasn’t their restaurant just their tenant. Besides her reaction happened while shopping so who’s to say she didn’t come into contact with nuts in a store. A lot of people react to just a smell if their allergy is extreme.

In what world other than Walt Disney World would anyone expect to be told accommodations for a disability mean sending a 5-year-old through the standby line alone with the expectation that child will send a text message to the person needing accommodations when they reach the merge point in order to allow that person to join their party? Seriously, how is that an accommodation? The other option is to have the adult in my party go through the standby line then have the child push my wheelchair through the lightning lane once the adult reaches the merge point. How is that an accommodation? Please note the wheelchair isn’t the reason I need accommodations. It just complicates everything.

I have to say about DAS. Disney does offer you to go sit relax somewhere and come back at a specific time. My husband had knee surgery. I pushed him in a wheelchair and he had a cane for short walks. We did not ask for anything special but every ride when they saw him they said hey you can do this and usually we would sit and wait a few minutes then go back and then have a short walk to the vehicle sometimes at the FP merge point. It was all we needed and it afforded us to relax and re energize

They are at least at the DAS phone call level refusing this now. My party is me, an adult and 5-year-old child. My party is to go through the standby line. They are to send me a text when they get to the lightning lane merge point. Then I can use the lightning lane to meet them, leaving them waiting there until I can get through the line in the lightning lane. This becomes more complicated because I am in a wheelchair and need someone to push me. They told me in that case one member of my party can stay with me to push my wheelchair. Which option do I choose? Have the adult go through the standby line then have the child push me? Have the child go through the line alone - he doesn’t have the ability to text me even if it made sense in any world to send a child that young through the line alone. The DAS people are not listening to individual situations. I had to privilege the names of people in my party in the chat before they started the video call. They can see one of the members of my party is a young child. The people I spoke with said I would definitely NOT be given a return time unless the ride doesn’t have an ADA compliant queue such as the jungle cruise.

I have gone to disney multiple times and bever had an issue getting a DAS pass. I have gone 1 time since they have changed the rules, and i didn't qualify that time. Here is a bit of information about lightning lane for those of you who have never experienced it. There is still a line in the lightning lane. The difference is it moves faster because it is given priority for loading the attractions. Sometimes the lightning lane line is physically longer than the standby line. What DAS adds to the picture is you get a flexible return time. You still have to wait for the length of the standby line but you can return any time after your return time.

The fact that people stand in an hour line to get DAS shows them that you can stand in line so it kinda backfires. People should do the online interview or wait until the line is shorter. I tried to call today about qualifying for DAS for the third time. I have new information from my doctor to bolster my request. I was not allowed to talk to anyone. I was given the list of three accommodations from my prior calls. One of those is the process to follow if I need to exit the line. One is to join my party in line. I have forgotten the third. Those don’t accommodate my issue. Simple explanation is I have a condition that can lead to me suddenly lying on the floor unresponsive. I asked how I will exit the line if I’m lying on the floor unresponsive. The answer? A cast member will call Disney’s EMTs. Then the chat was terminated. Wonderful. Joining my party? I have an adult pushing my wheelchair and a 5-year-old in my party. During my second call they suggested one of those two go through the standby line and the other can push me to meet up at the merge point. I said that can’t be done. They asked why. That’s when I knew they weren’t even listening to me. They suggested rider switch during my first call. The other two would ride then I could ride with one of them. Really?

@@Dorokill Call 911. I haven’t given my medical details here but this is a sensory issue related to me being on the autism spectrum. Sensory overload and I usually end up on the floor. People need to be evacuated from the area and it takes 30 to 60 minutes for me to recover. It’s not waiting or lines that is my problem. It’s what happens if I’m agitated then repeatedly bumped or crowded. In normal circumstances I’m in a single file line and can just step out of line. I don’t have that luxury at Disney parks because of the switchbacks. I do everything possible to minimize an episode from happening which usually means I don’t go on any rides. What I need is the flexible return time as in the past I have returned at my time and there has been a long line at lightning lane so we don’t risk taking me on at that time. Sometimes it means despite having a DAS I still don’t go on the ride. It all depends on my level of agitation at the moment.

I feel for the guy, but on the other hand I feel for the cast members who have cameras shoved in their face to record the whole thing because that seems to be the growing trend is post your life online regardless of how intrusive it is for others. But I gotta say, they have season passes, and this is the first time they're trying this? Something isn't adding up with this story.

People stood in line for an hour to get DAS but you cant wait in line for a ride ?!

Disney doesn't HAVE to offer DAS at all. So while I'm sympathetic to those who can't use it anymore and come from a family who has used it when I was a child, that because all rides can be accessed using a wheelchair that it's only fair to wait just like everyone else otherwise you just may need to consider this is not the vacation for you. Just like people who are restricted due to weight and size on rides not everyone gets to do everything all the time

I don’t have issues with waiting or even being in a single file line I can easily exit. I do have issues with hitting a bottleneck of people. I do my part by not going on rides when I’m heading toward sensory overload. I don’t even go to the parks if I’m feeling agitated. I have been going to WDW specifically because they have kindly provided accommodations for people like me. The flexible return time offered through DAS has allowed me to go on a ride once in a while when I feel okay enough to ride. Usually I make a reservation for a ride when I enter a park then never go on the ride. In my DAS request calls I even offered to wait in sensory deprivation rooms with autistic children. Yes, I’m on the autism spectrum but I’m highly functional. Yes, I’m officially disabled. They still said no. I’m extremely disappointed.

Why should someone in a wheelchair get to skip the line? NO! Not fair. Most lines can accommodate wheelchairs and scooters and those people are seated so what’s the big deal about waiting in line? The rest of us have to. If the line cannot accommodate wheelchairs or scooters then someone from their party can wait in line and when that person gets to the front of the line the person in the wheelchair/scooter can get on the ride. Too many people abuse the handicap scenario. Something about having autism was mentioned, they can wait in line too. If they are unable to wait in line, they can go home. I know people with autistic children and they would never think of inconveniencing a whole line of people to TRY and get their child to go on a ride they probably don’t want to in the first place. Their child stays with trusted family members and they take turns going on vacation.

You should have to prove disability before the date of visit for DAS, then once the disability is confirmed definitely get the pass. Unfortunately, my family knows a few people who have feigned an assortment of illnesses to get DAS, so faking cancer is not unbelievable to me. Anything to get something for nothing.

You are right there is a special place for people that lie about that but I am sure that family could have provided documentation and probably did and the cast member still would have refused it, no the first time I have heard it is only for autism like all other disabilities dont exist

I have autism and can definitely wait in line. I hate that they made the autism diagnosis so broad it's meaningless.

I also, however, think sometimes people who film things like this do it more for the personal attention than the "cause". Being a victim trends. Believe nothing you see and only half of what you hear.

@@punxsydawnI have Autism and don’t use the system, my younger brother who has a more severe case of Autism does need it so we would get it for him. We do the webcam interview before heading to the parks so the cast member directly see that he is non verbal and can’t stay in place for long

@@MathieuLeblanc1991 that's my point. Same diagnoses, vastly different symptoms. It's silly.

Don't you have to apply and get approved before you go to the park. And then maybe an interview at the park? Idk I'm just asking. I understand Disney recently changed the policy because it was being abused according to Disney. You know how Disney can be flip flopping funsters. Is this Chapecks fault somehow?

I’m Autistic, but don’t require DAS! I’m furious that they would refuse a Cancer patient a break waiting in the lines! A Terminal Patient? Really Disney?!

Disney parks have gotten worse and worse over the years as I've seen, it feels like they dont care about people who want to be in a theme park and more about making money off of the people who like the movies they make, the company doesnt care about the parks, which is a shame since a lot of theme parks use to try and copy disney to get the same ammount of traffic. Hell I would argue that the parks that copied disney are now seen as better than disney by theme park fans. I've also noticed that they only make dark rides now which is just...why? I few of these new lands they have been making are in need of roller coasters 100% i would love too see them make a roller coster for galaxy's edge and world of pandora. Its just sad to see what disney has became over the years tbh-
