@@ardillarojo Corny? Yes. It might as well have ended with "and they lived happily ever after". But its so much better than the theatrical ending. It just...ends. All vague and open-ended, as if Hollywood wanted to have an ending that could set up sequels. For me, this extended ending is the canon ending and T3 - Dark Fate are non-canonical "what ifs". Bad what-ifs, given how T2 really should be the ending due to the fact that all evidence and traces have been wiped, but what ifs nonetheless.

@@Miyakolover Other timelines technically so...exploring other timeline's is a logical story reason to exist in my opinion though I wills say that the first timeline ended with this ending imo. Then the second is 1-4, third is just Genisys and so on. Some Timelines have a happy ending, others...well, fate did not want Judgement Day to die so to speak. John dies? Fate's gonna rectify that by ushering a new leader because it gotta happen. Fate can be a dick at times.
@Miyakolover4 жыл бұрын
@@GodzillaKyru Sorry, but the "Fate" argument doesn't make a good argument to defend Dark Fate or any of the movies after T2 for one simple reason: Terminator 2's message establishes that there is no fate but what you make for yourself...so the idea of Judgement Day being "Inevitable" contradicts that message without any logical reason behind it; on top of making everything in the first two movies unnecessary by simply existing. Dark Fate is possibly the worst offender because Sarah and John couldn't take their fates into their own hands as T2 made you believe...making all of their struggles and sacrifices in T2 a waste of time...that no matter what they do, humanity is doomed to destruction by the hands of the machines...they didn't save the future; all their efforts were in vain...that is why Dark Fate is the worst; it existence nulls the events of the first two movies.
@GodzillaKyru4 жыл бұрын
@@Miyakolover How doesn't that make a good argument when there's plenty of timelines to put the "fate is a dick" in? As I said, some timelines have good endings, some of em...not so much. @paradigm_sh1ft5326 жыл бұрын
But it could never end this way. In reality John and Sarah would disappear into hiding. They're still wanted by authorities in relation to many things; *The massacre at Tech Noir *The massacre at LAPD *The shootout at the Galleria with a uniformed officer *The prison breakout and assault of orderlies at Pescadaro and the resulting gunfight. *The attempted murder of Miles Dyson. *Destruction of LAPD law enforcement vehicles. *Grievous bodily harm of LAPD SWAT deployment. *Destruction of private property (Cyberdyne systems) *Grand theft auto. Of course, as the audience, we know the truth. But living a normal life after these events? No way you'd get into politics, Law enforcement agencies around the world would be hunting you down after that rap sheet

The true ending of The Terminator franchise not that bullshit that Tim Miller made... just end it there and move on
@WooogaTooga8 жыл бұрын
I prefer this ending for a number of reasons: 1) it compliments the prologue; effectively bookending the film with alternate 2029s. 2) Sarah's narration is given basis; tying in with the ending of T1. 3) the Terminator's sacrifice is shown to have a lasting effect on the future. 4) it prevents the existence of the sequels. IMO, if this ending along with Sarah's dream of Reese in the hospital and the CPU surgery scene were reinserted into the theatrical cut, the movie would be PERFECT.
@cyrax9878 жыл бұрын
+Grant Bennett Except it's an even bigger plot hole than any other plot hole. The whole point is that all the events are already sent in motion and even the time traveling in integral to the future. If no war happened then there would be no robots and if there was no robots then no Kyle Reese going back in time and none of what happened in both movies would happen.
@WooogaTooga8 жыл бұрын
That's a fair argument, but the idea that any attempt to alter the past only brings in motion the seemingly established future - an ontological paradox in other words - seems to run counter to the core message of T1 and 2, i.e. "the future is not set" and "there is no fate but what we make for ourselves." Why would Cameron reinforce those statements if there was no possible hope for our heroes to change the future? The way I see it, the time-travelers are, as Reese said, the products of "one possible future" and their presence in the past only helps to make that future more probable to occur; a sort of tug-of-war between realities. When Sarah prevents Judgment Day from happening, the interventions in '84 and '95 can be seen as being anomalies of an alternate timeline.
@maidenslayer7 жыл бұрын
Belvgor Yeah and no John Connor.
@Zappina6 жыл бұрын
Grant Bennett Actually the resistance knew nothing about time travel. Skynet does. If changing the past have little consequences to the future where skynet failed to achieve its goal and defeated then why it is sent back a terminator(uhh 2 terminators) to the past to kill Sarah and John Connor? It is still defeated in that timeline.

This is the canon ending of the Terminator series to me. John having a kid (and presumably a wife), getting a well-paying job, a secure life, and Sarah being able to watch her son succeed and be happy instead of growing up in a post-apocalyptic hell like the one Kyle lived in, being able to live a happy life which they're both immensely grateful for. And no Sarah dying off-screen in 1997 because of leukemia, none of that BS. This is the ending that gives the most satisfying conclusion to the series - it made all of what the characters went through in T1 and T2 worth it. They won. What they did mattered. T3 kind of made what happened in T2 totally irrelevant. "Judgement Day is inevitable" made what John, Sarah and the T-800 do in destroying Cyberdyne Systems completely pointless.
@07foxmulder6 жыл бұрын
Terminator 3 was one of the biggest slaps in the face to a movie franchise. The whole “Judgement Day is inevitable” line was one of the laziest things I’ve ever heard. It’s like the filmmakers of T3 were too dumb to come up with an original idea so they said, “Fuck it! Let’s just say that Judgement Day is going to happen no matter what.”
@paradigm_sh1ft5325 жыл бұрын
It also makes zero sense. Even though they succeeded in preventing judgment day, they destroyed all evidence of Skynet by destroying Cyberdyne and the remaining T800 parts. This still makes them fugitives from the law that still have multiple charges to answer to; *The LAPD massacre *The Galleria shootout & chase *The Pescadero escape *The leveling of Cyberdyne *The assault on LAPD & SWAT officers. *The gunfight/chase to the steelworks. They'd never escape these charges and would be incarcerated for life. A more plausible ending would be John & Sarah living in hiding, like in Mexico or outside of America.
@ditaismi57985 жыл бұрын
Well, for me this ending doesn't make sense. I mean, if judgment day never happen, Kyle would never sent back to 1984 and John would never exist. No one would try to stop the judgment day, not even Sarah because she wouldn't meet Kyle and knowing about what happen in the future. It's a paradox. Judgment day were always meant to happen, no matter what.
@ianhunter49525 жыл бұрын
That's how a sequel should have played out. Have the movie open during the war, and have it end when Reese is sent back, continuing the cycle. That way, the movies could be watched in any order and still make sense. I hope James Cameron is planning something like that for the upcoming sequel.

This ending is far more satisfying. Why, was it changed in the final cut of the film? Was it due to test screenings, or Hollywood execs, who decided that there was more money to be made, from milking the Terminator brand as much as possible? Every Terminator film since has been disappointing. Why did they bother?
@BrandonPerez-vf2wf7 жыл бұрын
Scott McPhee Prefer the other ending, where it's basically saying that the future is only made of what we choose it to be. And leaving the so called “fate" of humanity in the audience's hands. Since the machines aren't the only dangerous thing in this world. But us too, as humans.
@Mauropus7 жыл бұрын
Since it was the highest grossing film of 1991, I'm pretty sure it was the suits trying to squeeze as much money from the brand as they could.

The theatrical cut was the best ending. It was the idea that the future was unknown, like a dark highway, that punctuated the theme "there is no fate but what we make..." and that is possible only when the future is unknown, waiting for us to write. In that lies hope.
@jamesmcgeachie72895 жыл бұрын

Kello Bello the only problem with this ending is if when the terminator went in the molten steel prevented the war. Then John should have dissapreaed. No war means Kyle REESE Never came back in time. Which means no John. The only explication would be if the time machine is in fact not a time machine but rather a machine that goes to parrelel universes. And when it went back it went to one that was still in 1995.which means the world where Kyle came from still did have the war. So he still had to come back
