What the third movie should have at least drawn inspiration from endgame where time can split into two if time travel is possible. Destroying cyberdine created a new future where skynet doesn’t exist but the original future where skynet still does is intact and John Conner the leader was killed, and multiple terminators are being sent back into that timeline to eliminate the younger John Conner to make sure he doesn’t come to that future to help the resistance destroy skynet for good. The t 800 comes to the past to bring John Conner and Sarah Conner to the future with him and helps the resistance end the war but will they be able to complete the mission in time? Now that is how you complete a trilogy without issues.

The terminators back then were actual puppets they manipulated with wires, it gave that jerky feeling when the terminator moved. This is likely either pure CGI or CGI layered over MoCap the movements are too smooth so it doesn’t have the same feel as the ones from T1 and T2.

Time travel isn't real (yet), and because of that there are a lot of theories and interpretations of how something like that would work, the most known is the one shown in Back to the Future which is the one you're thinking about, but it's not the only interpretation. The one used in this movie basically says that in theory if you're in the past when the future is altered you'll remain existing because you weren't in the future when the timeline changed, basically it means that the future (or your past) happened to you but not to everyone else, it's like saying that Arnie is like the last code from an old program that was saved before the original one was erased. I know that it sounds weird, but it actually makes sense when you start to think about it.
