When the screenwriter guy gave that explanation of how there's still Terminator's I actually completely understood it.
@flatebo14 жыл бұрын
If there weren’t still Terminators from the original (now deleted) timeline, then there couldn’t be a John Connor to kill. If the future they prevented never happened, then Reese was never sent back in time to get Sarah knocked up, so the events of the first movie never happened. And if the first movie never happened, then Dyson wouldn’t have had a Terminator CPU to study inT2, which lead to the creation of SkyNet, so the second movie never happened. The best you can say is that the events of T2 caused a timeline split, so Dark Fate is on the timeline that branched off due to T2, but the SkyNet future still exists in another branch. Which also means that if SkyNet sends a Terminator back to before the timeline split, versions of that Terminator will be in both timelines. So we could have both SkyNet and Legion sending Terminators back to before the split so their respective Terminator armies can lay dormant until they activate in the other timeline’s future, each joining forces with the two human resistances (temporarily, at least) to destroy their AI rival before launching their own bids to exterminate humanity on both timelines.

As much as I love the first two Terminators, this is precisely why you set yourself up for failure if there's even a remote possibility for future sequels by using this version of time travel. The only way to avoid irreconcilable paradoxes is if you either don't get too into the weeds about the mechanics of it (like the first two movies did) and or be extremely careful to pay attention to detail when constructing the plot of the sequels so you don't completely explode any and all sense of continuity. The alternate universe version of time travel like what Avengers: Endgame and every Marvel Comics story in general used (at least the classic stuff) is probably the easiest way to make time travel an integral and active element of the plot without turning the continuity into complete nonsense because whatever happens happens. There's no erasong things and no pardoxes, just alternate universes that are created with each change to the past.
@LordOfBagels1175 жыл бұрын
I hate time travel being used as a serious plot device. I hate it SO much. It only ever makes sense when its used in a "stable time loop" sense that doesn't screw over the entire timeline, or create alternate timelines that intersect which opens up a whole different set of problems like how do different timelines intersect in the first place and more importantly if multiverse theory is in play how does said time traveler intend to get back to their own timeline, or can they even do that if they changed things because changing things to prevent other things if it works then negates the need to travel back and change things in the first place and GODDAMNIT I HATE TIME TRAVEL @$?$%#&#*€#%÷×#&$/,:%$)&?!
@kohl19995 жыл бұрын
@@LordOfBagels117 Very well said. I also despise time travel as a plot device because of the obvious paradoxes and the fact it is just a crutch for writers who cannot think creatively. It has really only worked in a few movies such as The Time Machine where the traveler was traveling *forward* in time. I actually could not bring myself to see Avengers: Endgame for this very reason.

Why do so many people not like the third one ? It was really fun to watch. (seen it three times) Had great chase scenes. Good acting. Arnold was in it. It had two hot girls. (the terminator and the veterinarian) It was funny. Had some good one liners from Arnold. Had returning characters people wanted to see. I gave it a ten. The best is still the first one. Linda was hot in that.
@TheZeroNeonix5 ай бұрын
@stephensmith7293 - I thought the third one was okay. Not as good as Terminator 2, but still fine. It was interesting seeing SkyNet come online. If the movies following 3 were better, maybe I'd like it better. As is, 3 replaces the satisfying ending of 2 with a cliffhanger that no movie after gives us a satisfying conclusion for. Heck, Dark Fate even has the nerve to write John Conner out of the story completely. So I find it easier to ignore everything that comes after 2. The first movie was limited by its budget, and the second took that limit away and let them tell the story they wanted to tell. Anything after that was unnecessary, and turned out to be a disorganized mess.
