My father showed up to school during lunch in second grade one day, full army attire, grabbed my shoulder and said "We have to go." He freaked me out. I was literally thinking like "did Mom die or something?" he was so serious and walked with a purpose... When we got to the van i asked him what was going on. He pulled out DKC2 and said "i just wanted you to get a chance to play this before all your friends." Then i freaked out in a different way. To this day, i view DKC2 as a platforming masterpiece and it will forever hold a place in my heart.

To be fair, this is an uncompressed version. But the original is still amazing
@studentism4 жыл бұрын
yes, the technical work Wise had to do (on top of.. you know, the fucking compositions) in order to make this work within the limitations of the SNES is incredible. he emulated the Korg Wavestation process, manually recorded/imported individual samples, and sequenced them to make these seemingly long-lasting/evolving sounds. there are youtube videos/interviews that explain the whole process much better than i have. also, no offense to the person that recreated/posted this, but the recording off the original hardware sounds so much better.

Nostalgia is strange, you will have songs that will do the same to you as you get older. I recall going to my friends house back after elementary school in the 90's around the time this game had first come out and we played this game for the first time, eating pizza at the same time.... ahhhh... I miss those days. this song definitly makes me feel nostalgic
@ElvenGodFromHell6 жыл бұрын
rexrabbiteer I hear you... No recent games will ever be able to create such a Nostalgia for the new generation, just like no songs coming out leaves a footprint in people's mind. I religiously play the DKC SNES series once a year with my brother to relive the good old times and everytime we get to this level we pause the game, and remind ourselves of happy times we had growing up.
@ElvenGodFromHell6 жыл бұрын
F* Society Thanks for the words of encouragement, society plays a huge role at trying to condition us to repress our inner child I suppose.. Nothing makes me more mad than hearing the phrase "grow up", as if that's what is expected out of all of us. Since my original comment I've worked on slowing down the pace of my life, even whooped out my old SNES from the attic and played this wonderful game again with my brother last week. Pausing each and every level to listen to the soundtracks and talking about our youth and what moments marked us the most. It felt great :)
@youngro118 ай бұрын
Really reminds me that the child inside all of us can be neglected, shunned, and locked away. The child-like wonder of looking up at a sky full of stars is replaced by gazing, wishing to be anywhere but where we are right now. This always makes me feel like wherever I am, it’s not where I was , but that’s okay

This might sound strange for some but I think the awe and nostalgic feeling this beautiful music brings forth on people actually helps coping with the inevitability of growing older and even death. Quoting from a wise person who once said: "Don't be sad that it's over. Be happy that it happened."

This song makes me extremely sad. It doesn't need any lyrics to do that. It's essence is full of emotion and it takes me back in time, filling me with nostalgia and remembrance of better, simpler days, even though I never even touched a DK game. It's things as small as this piece of music that makes us feel alive and appreciate what we've been through. Growing older does suck, but it's part of what makes life beautiful. The fact that it's limited. This song is damn beautiful.
@ankucowboy Жыл бұрын
@@stefanoponce6090 Exactly, that's what I think when I listen to that melody, it's something inexplicable, although I did have a DKCountry on my old GameBoy Advance, I never had 2, but when I listen to this melody, I don't know why it makes me very melancholy in my childhood, Just as you say, they were happier and simpler days, when you played Zelda Ocarina on your N64, when you saw the start of Pokemon, when you discovered Resident Evil on PS1, when you waited for a new edition of "Club Nintento" magazine. all that is in the past, and it is summed up to this melody for me.

Donkey Kong Country was part of my life, during one of the most difficult moments of my childhood. My parents had separated and I suffered a lot because I was without my father and spent most of my time alone, since my mother was always away working. If I remember correctly, this was around 1995-1996, when I was not even 10 years old. This game was my refuge, where I could have something to occupy my mind and something to deal with my suffering at the same time. Forest Interlude, Mining Melancholy, Hot Head Bop, but mainly STICHERBRUSH SYNPHONY and AQUATIC AMBIENCE... Wow, just remembering how much I cried listening to these songs... it was a very difficult childhood, but I am very grateful for having had the opportunity to come into contact with this masterpiece.

This music fits so well with the general thematic of that particular world: you cross this slimy, dark swamp while a music that itself feels stagnant plays in the background, then deep dive to explore the bowels of a long forgotten stranded ship looking for treasure, then the ship itself collapses and sinks into the swamplands while you climb the sails, and then - just then - you're rewarded with the beauty of Stickerbrush simphony and you can once again see the sunlight and sky in all its glory. Yes, there are thorns all around, but life is like that - and it's well worth it. It's like defeating depression through a deep introspection and seeing the beauty of meaning after a long struggle against the stagnation that threatened to swallow you. I love your work so much. Thank you for this.

I'm only 21. I grew up playing more retro games with my grandmother. She owned a dry cleaners within walking distance to my k-8 school. At her work, I would sit on an old musty couch in front of a tiny crt, and when work was slow she and I would play games like this until my mom picked me up. This never changed for as long as I could remember until high school. She has since passed, the cleaners now an abandoned building, and that tv and console decaying in a box somewhere. I'm now a struggling adult with mdd. I will cherish the memories of simple times forever. May my Mamaw rest in peace.

takes me back to when i was 13 years old, my mom would take me to my uncles apartment, where he ran a bar/laundromat across the street, and i would spent countless hours playing this game. occasionally my uncle would check in on me and the progress i was making, because he also liked the game, but i got much further than he ever did. the music touches a part of my soul that makes me both sad, and happy. Sad because those days are long gone and im about to hit 40 in a few years... happy because its a memory that lives on in my heart and i can recount so much of those days, through the music. i can remember the look of the apartment, the sectional leather couch, the big screen TV, and the kitchen set up. we had it so good and didnt realize it.
