You need more than temperature to support liquid water, you need pressure or the ice will sublimate into the atmosphere, like it has for the past 500 million years. During that time, because mars doesn't have a magnetic field, solar wind has stripped more and more atmosphere and water vapor into space. Add magnetic field(molten core and larger moon than Phobos or Deimos will help), add atmosphere, then heat and add water.

The reason mars heated up and couldn’t cool down like earth is because unlike earth mars has a cold core it’s core died along time ago earths core makes a magnetic field or magnetosphere which repels and protects us from the suns solar winds. Putting mars closer to the sun makes mars under go more solar winds witch heats it up. If you want to terraform mars you have to some how restart it’s core and get it to have a magnetosphere. You were correct the atmosphere has some part to do with it but so does the ozone layer and the magnetosphere.

Actually, there’d be a huge problem with cash, as no space organization has enough funding to build that, nor is there enough competition to even convince a country into doing that. And I’m leaving out the complexity, the size of the laser itself (149 kilometer radius) and the ridiculous amount of power required to do that
@Gala-yp8nx5 жыл бұрын
You also need to crank up Mars’ magnetosphere otherwise it will lose its atmosphere. Not to mention that the surface will be too irradiated without a magnetosphere.
@integrativegenesis5 жыл бұрын
Btw if you are having trouble trying to make the temperatures and radiation on the planet stabilize the way you want to then there is a magnetic field option which can block radiation and extra strains of heat
@lukefriederichsen5 жыл бұрын
you can raise and lower elevation using the laser tool currently. Hold shift with laser to raise elevation and hold control to lower it. also, the colors on the temperature map are relative and not absolute temperature ranges.

I’m wondering if you would have left mars in its original location and heated the entire planet up if you could have possibly rewarded its core kick starting the magnetosphere back into action to protect it from the suns rays and then just modified it to have an atmosphere and allowed it to cool if that would have worked better.

his main issue is he was using the average temp instead of looking at the minimum and maximum and the heat graph, i mean having an average temp of 23 is meaningless if the lowest is still like -200+ and the maximum is like 4000+ also mars lacks a thick atmosphere so the water is just going to bleed off in to space he needs to get an ozone layer going first
