I mean with Eddie, Ian's group had just unleashed the dinosaurs the Hunters had gotten, destroying their camp, injuring or killing multiple people and stranding that group on the island. Considering that, Roland is being downright diplomatic in saving Ian and the others and not shooting them on sight really. I wouldn't even say his own pursuit of the Rex led him to tragedy as Ahjay was the one who recruited him, if he hadn't gone it's likely Ahjay still would have as it was his idea initially. Roland leaves at the end because he got what he came for and he lost his closest friend. There is no hunt after this he can aspire to, he took down a bull T Rex and survived Isla Sorna. There are no more worlds left to conquer, no hunts to challenge him and no friend to share it with, which yes, is a tragedy, but it's more about outliving your time.

It was really Hammond's fault but more Sarah's and Ian's fault for releasing dinos which was unnecessary and dangerous because they already got the photo and vid evidence of peters team conquering island and taking dinos so need to do that but they effected themselves too in their foolishness of getting there trailer and cars demised by trexes too so Roland was correct in saying to Hammond's team thanks to you people lol

Well, Roland is in fact one of, if not, my favourite character of the Jurassic franchise. His role as a classic big game hunter really fits for me. I really liked him.

I used to view Roland as 💯% heroic when I was a kid around the time “TLW” first came out, but as I grew older and with more subsequent viewings, I realized he’s really a _morally ambiguous/anti-hero_ character, which makes him all the more interesting IMHO (👍).

He captured a rex, which isn’t exactly losing. Going to the island also was not his idea, RJ introduced it to him, not vice versa.

The deleted scene does a lot to make Roland’s choice more sympathetic and logical Ajay was the one who told Roland about the mission and had Roland not said yes his friend would be alive “Unsympathetic to Eddie” ignoring the fact that their actions almost got him killed and have to worry about the trexes stating the facts plainly and quickly so they are on the move is smart “No sympathy to stark” besides the dude being a Jackass he causes his own death and ultimately with their coms destroyed his focus on the mission makes sense and again smart

I don't think redemption was ever in store for Roland. I've always looked at him as a tragic character. He survived, but he paid dearly for his mistakes. Another victim in the chaos unleashed by Jurassic Park.

The reason he's unsympathetic with Eddie and Stark is because they are still in a jungle with hungry Dinosaurs, so he needs to be the one to toughen up in the situation. Also, have him be the one to use Sarah's jacket would paint a darker light which is good and adds reason why should root for Ian.

They didn't kill maldoon it was nedry who made mistake of releasing dinos. Maldoon knew he wasn't going to win with raptors that's why he said where being hunted

The point about Roland being unsympathetic could be because Roland doesn’t know who attacked the camp and almost killed him with a burning jeep

The origin of the character pretty much explains who he is, in the song "Roland the headless Thompson gunner" (mixed in with book Robert Muldoon). And puts perspective on Van Owen's character

I actually agree with you he is a tragic character but I think the character Nick is a good vision mostly due to the facts that Nick sabotages The Hunter's camp causing everything to happen if the hunters we're not sabotage probably no one would die in the Lost world of Jurassic Park just my opinion

While Roland is my favorite character as he is a masterpiece in Jurassic franchise he is cold but also carrying it's what makes him so cool but klantyon will hate you brother lol 😂 can't wait see his response to u I love u and klantyon both awesome guys 😊
