The coolest chairdemo I've ever seen. The two are splendid in karate and in comedy. Simply a delight to watch.. R.I.P. Bobby.

This must have been sometime in the 80s. I can see Ticky Donovan in the front spectator row. A Wado man myself, still have great respect for these top Shotokan practitioners, whom I have met personally during my time in Liverpool. The 2 Brennan brothers are the attackers in A. Sherry's demo. Very sorry to read in the below comments that Bob has recently sadly passed.

The first demo between Bob Poynton and Terry O'Neill is absolute class, I love the lack of reverance for what is a rather trite demo prop. Fantastic comic timing and excellent subtle nuance of tension between Bob and Terry

I once got a lift from Sensei Andy Sherry in his Ford Sierra 4x4 back in the 80s. The Red Triangle Karate Club had the best three Sensei, in my humble opinion.

@@officecraftltd9966 Take it from me, Kid. There were only three there for the four years that I was there. Bob - Monday, Andy - Wednesday, Andy and Frank - Friday. Sure, there may have been more in later years. But, not when I was there!

@@officecraftltd9966 Or, before my time, I should have stated. My apologies. I remember Jimmy Brennan, but no Jim Poynton. Only Bob. I recall Bob had a lady waiting for him almost every Monday night 😊

@@officecraftltd9966frank saved my life when I broke my neck while doing a demo. He heard the crack as I landed on my head. Fractured skull neck and base of my spine. He rushed onto the floor held myhead still while others wanted to lift me up. I never got the chance to thank him. I believe it was frank. I was in and out of it. Our dojo was in St Helens. And had the red triangle boys in all the time. It changed my life. I was paralysed,I vowed if I got my feeling back I would change my life /job I became a professional photographer 40 years later I have had a great life. But it changed in that moment. If anyone knows him please pass on my thanks.

Credit to Andy Sherry for the demo at the end too. It might not be as funny the other one, but Sherry really knows how to throw a hit. He's a small bloke but he hits like a bulldozer.

Brilliant flawless demo I rate terry O'Neil and of course Bob Poynton....however Poynton ( when I met him at the Blackfriars Dojo ) displayed an arrogant attitude and I took an instant dislike to him...he tends to look down at people..he may be an excellent representative of Shotokan but as his personality lets him down.
@spookybaba7 жыл бұрын
Bob had a tongue in cheek attitude. He was hardly arrogant, just incredibly confident. A great Sensei, and he always seemed to have a pretty lady waiting for him after his Monday sessions at the Red Triangle in the 80s :-D
