6:20 "Mr Gordon said he wanted it reflexted in costs"... sorry... does this mean this solicitor gets to say, that on the basis of McGregor's conduct outside court, his "costs" were to be raised and he be paid MORE money? This, to me, seems utterly disgraceful. You're a solicitor you are paid for your marshalling your clients case through the process. A defendant making stupid comments on twitter doesn't entitle you to more than your already astronomical costs... why doesn't Ms Hand get more damages as a result of these tweets? Seems utterly bizzare to me. Whole system seems designed to reward these solicitors far more than the actual victim of the case.

I'd say it was facts that swung it. The medical evidence from several health care professionals, the photographs of the extensive bruising, etc. The jury saw and heard things we didn't see, but that some journalists who attended court have described (see Shattered Lives and Crime World). The judge was confident the jury reached the right decision. His reputation is significant though because it shows a pattern of a person who isn't in control of their emotions or their impulses, a person who shows poor judgement (he's no stranger to criminal courts). Makes me wonder if he's got CTE.

My understanding is that while McGregor must pay his all own costs he only has to pay 80% of Ms Hand's costs against him Therefore Ms Hand has to pay 20% of her own costs against McGregor AND all her own costs against Lawrence. This is likely to be substantial and may potentially exceed the €248,000 she was awarded. Could you clarify this point?

This isn't true at all, she was only awarded normal costs against the McGregor case which means she only receives 80% of her legal costs. Ms Hand was on a cocktail of substances which led to poor decision making but bears no responsibility in essence for this. I think the judge did not want to wipe out her award by making her liable for any costs from the good of his heart but deviation from the no foal no fee model may be overturned and I know he has discretion. This figure includes all pre hearing costs, correspondence, pleadings, discovery, motions etc. And then 12 or 15 days in the High Court. And Nikita Hand had 2 senior counsel, 1 junior and a firm of solicitors. The other guys had similar lineups. So, it adds up..
