Good morning to you Terry, from an old Cornishman just in from the hooley, after walking-out the long-dogs. It does me good to listen and learn from a man who speaks softly, with wisdom borne from long experience. I am 66 years old. My Dad is 93, Mum was Irish, her line is from West Cork: please God keep after her well. As a hybrid, twixt Kernow ha Iwerdhon, I am still prone to going "whoosh-bang", hence my reference to your deliveries of these sad facts. Conor McGregor chose the wrong path many moons past. He ignored all the 'Yield' posts. Nikita Hand was the inevitable "brick wall". The behaviour of all parties involved was shameful and disgusting. But whatever, Conor Mc Gregor comitted rape and so had to be held accountable in a Courtroom of law. He has been found guilty of rape. A curse be upon him. Goodness knows what other hurt and depravities he is responsible for. God bless.

This whole affair is worse than appalling. I am 61, with three sons and a daughter in their 20's. The 3 lads were 'fans' of Conor McG the performer, but wouldn't have regarded him as a 'role model'. Since his heyday as a fighter he has shown himself as a classless person, thuggish, and unworthy of admiration. All of which is a pity, because he was a gifted fighter. If Irish society, and I principally refer to Dad's, and brothers, has any self-regard left, it should be ruthless with regard to McGregor's behaviour in 'cruising' the nightclubs, when he is essentially a 'married' man, with a long term 'wife' and four children. He has betrayed his children, and trapped his 'wife' in an impossible situation. He is a disgrace to leave her in this situation. Personally, I regard his 'wife' and their children as the victims'. Shed no crocodile tears for Ms Hand, who knew exactly what she was doing. Mother of a young daughter, she betrayed in equal measure her daughter and partner, set out to 'party' with others, solicited the attention of other men, took excessive amounts of alcohol and cocaine (possession a jailable offence), and knowingly out herself in danger. Enough of the feminist bullshit; at 29 years of age there is a heavy responsiblity on her shoulders too. I believe she was assaulted, and I believe she is deserving of damages. But in the final analysis the blubbering performance should convince no-one. In its own way her behaviour was disgraceful too.

The comments on her are insane. The group of peers held Conor Mcregor liable for sexual assault yet you have people on here with no legal experience or any knowledge of civil litigation saying it’s a money grab and she’s essentially a slapper. You are undermining the rule of law, based on the evidence the jury were happy to find him liable. It seems most people in the comments don’t even understand how the DPP works. Why did he hire goons to beat up her partner if he’s so innocent?
@nglforbes8 сағат бұрын
What I find interesting is when it got taken through the criminal courts where you have to have full clear evidence in a, he said she said case it got thrown out obviously in a civil case the evidence needed is a lot less and the fact you had 8 jurors who were women and 4 men to me because of him being a total belled was destined to be found guilty. Also there is too much inconsistencys with her story especially her behaviour after the alleged rape, if you have been rape and your bruised and battered how then do you sleep with mcregors friend a few hours later and she was caught on cameras kissing him and behaving in a way that makes no sense. I'm not convinced 100% he is guilty. Also you said why did he hire goons to beat up her partner this is another assumption because where is the proof he hired them I didn't hear it mentioned in the court case I didn't hear anything about mcgregor doing that except people assuming without proof. I'm not saying he didn't but where's the evidence. Mcgregor is going to appeal it that's going to be interesting

In civil cases where the defendant offers a settlement that amount is "lodged" with the court. Then in a subsequent case if the plantiff is awarded an amount lower than what was lodged then legal costs are awarded against the plaintiff. Therefore if McGregor offered more than the €248,000 she would lose the legal costs estimated at €1,500,000.

1. The accuser first propositioned McGregor, sending him suggestive pictures over social media and volunteering to go to his hotel. Despite this, she claims she had no desire to sleep with him. 2. She left her boyfriend to go see McGregor as part of a multi-day bender, but lied to him about where she was. 3. CCTV showed her kissing and touching both McGregor and his friend -- AFTER McGregor was alleged to have raped her. In fact, she stayed for hours partying and drinking after the alleged assault. 4. She alleged he put her in a choke hold and told her "now you know how I felt in the Octagon where I tapped out three times" -- Really? 5. A couple in the bedroom next door testified against her account of events, they never saw or heard any signs of assault. One of these people that testified this was HER OWN friend and work colleague! 6. One of those people testified that he slept with the woman. She denied this, but it was seemingly corroborated by CCTV footage showing her all over him AFTER the alleged assault. She also sued this man for sexual assault (despite claiming to have no recollection of meeting him), but he was found not guilty by the jury. 7. She claimed to have no memory of the events of the CCTV footage showing her all over the two men, but had a good memory of everything else. 8. She claimed to be out of it at the time of the assault, explaining her lapsed memory, but she was texting lengthy text messages of lies to her boyfriend at the time. 9. For some reason, her boyfriend recorded the conversation with her when she returned home. What does that suggest? 10. The case was thrown out as a criminal case by the Director of Public Prosecutions due to insufficient evidence -- twice. This was a civil case where it does not need to be proved "beyond reasonable doubt", but just found to be more likely than not. The jury was made up of 8 women and 4 men. And lastly, this is NOT a rape conviction, but an award for damages over an assault

Terry, Thanks for your coverage and commentary. Very insightful and logical. Difficult for me to draw a conclusion. Your logic here is one position to take, however, your basing that on the fact we dont know if McGregor made an offer to settle, maybe you do know that, maybe not, if so you didnt say. McGregor has unlimited money, he could of made this case go away, safe to assume that, there is a figure Hand would accept to go away, I think thats safe to assume, so why didnt McGregor make the case go away...I cant answer that. I do want to point out some obvious and concerning facts that we all know exist. 1: The Jury was 8 Woman to 4 Men Disproportion to Hands advantage or McGregor...? also did I hear you correct in saying he made some gesture or reference to Hand that was offensive during proceedings, and the overarching fact that were in a me too movement where money and power have absolute bias and influence peoples opinion (8 woman) and I reference McGregors counsels argument that you may not like my client in closing arguments...they felt the need to make that admission...so his public perception is hes cocky and braggadocios, so the question is could that perception influence 8 Woman and 1 Men to return a unanimous decision...for a unanimous verdict they needed 9 to accept Hands claim... 2: The threshold in a civil case and criminal case is obviously for civil (on the balance of probabilities) and for criminal (beyond a reasonable doubt). Big BIG difference certainly when you consider my point above. The court of public opinion is often swayed as wev seen in numerous allegations proven to be false against men... especially rich successful men. Ronaldo/ Nehmar/ Andrew Tate/ Russel Brand/ some Man City footballer, the list goes on all those were proven false claims by the way and just a portion of claims so we know false claims are made.... and have been made and proven to be false... 3: There was a comment McGregor made I think yesterday in a post that caught my attention. I have no idea if this is true of false but given lets assume they have some truth for a moment. McGregor said the 4th witness, Danielle Kealy... her version of events dismissed... why...I assume because it contradicted Hands.. and this person was present throughout.... and she was the Woman with Hand... they were friends because Hand called her in the rape centre and the Woman disputed Hands claim... so there were 4 people involved in this.. 3 of which categorically and emphatically deny the allegation(s) made by 1 of the people there but also, the Jury rejected Hands claim on Lawrence because she claimed he too raped her.... 4: McGregor also said a couple of other things one being all the evidence was not heard.. and he referred to the DPP.. who did NOT prosecute him... that another sub point... McGregor also said Hands original story was she was raped by security guards and ran away I believe, well McGregor said that.. but also am I correct in assuming there was and is CCTV evidence showing Hand acting affectionately toward McGregor AFTER this alleged incident and asking them to stay in the hotel to continue the party... also as mentioned above, Hand alleged that Lawrence raped her and the jury found that not to be the case... why... so they rejected her claim toward Lawrence but accepted a claim toward McGregor and in order for them to do that they surely accepted Lawrences point that he and Hand had consensual sex, so Hand had sex with both McGregor and Lawrence within hours of each other... I can understand why people would label her frankly but there are some serious serious questions here many of which I have raised which draw into question the validity or sincerity around Hands version of events. Maybe it was a Money grab maybe she intended on settling but then on the advise of a solicitor maybe they knew the Jury would be proportionally speaking, made up of Woman not Men which is unfair I think and maybe they made a call at that point that they have an advantage and they could STILL settle at any point during the trial....then based on the developments of the case IE McGregors gesture toward Hand during the case... maybe Hands team read the room and said dont settle we think we can win.... maybe they made a call to say you can always settle at any point Ms Hand...I say maybe... and that is absolutely practical because you can settle at any point up until the last day of closing arguments... Bruises can happen in vigorous sex... let alone drug fuelled drunken sex... lets look at her medical evidence now whats compelling to me is the paramedics evidence... very very compelling....but correlation is not causation... again back to the threshold here and 8 Woman and 4 Men...and public perception and the era were living in (believe all women) For me.. this is FAR from an open and shut case. Is McGregor a rapist... or are there parties here with questionable ethics.. I think yes the fact Hand was prepared to go all the way and bear the public scrutiny and condemnation is indicative but not categoric in proving shes truthful.. that logic doesnt convince me at all.. lastly the damages dont seem to match the allegation.... why is that... 60k for the claim and 188k for outstanding factors IE loss of earnings etc... all the above suggests to me this is FAR from an open shut case.. Just my thoughts.

Think about what this case would have looked like if he hadn't told Gardai - under caution and with a solicitor - that he also had sex with Nikita. I think perhaps the DPP would have taken on the case and there would have been a criminal trial. Lawrence muddied the waters with what he told Gardai. Also, Nikita had no memory of intercourse with the man, meaning if it did take place - as he claims - it was at a time when she was so intoxicated she could not consent. That is rape. She couldn't leave him our of her civil case when he was alleging consensual sex with Nikita, and he could have been used as a witness against her.

@polly63366 сағат бұрын
Terry, thank you for this. You are a gentleman, and it's much appreciated and apparently needed. The commentary about Nikita Hand from some has been ugly and cruel, and I think it's a reflection of McGregor's negative influence on people, in particular boys and men who are vulnerable due to their relative youth and other factors. McGregor and his ilk do *not* promote critical thinking. They seem to spend their time bullying people (including each other), mistaking aggression for strength of personality. Nikita Hand is a hero. She faced untold intimidation, yet she didn't back down. She is the one with strength and integrity, and she's had to fight for six years to get here. The bros and the morality police need to back down now. Continuing to stand by, and admire and defend, a man like McGregor is truly the wrong path to take in life. Continuing to attack a woman for her choices is in very poor taste; she never chose to be raped or assaulted, that wasn't included in the party package she thought she was agreeing to. I'd like to highlight that the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre has also commented on this, and the statement can be found on their website. I can't post a link, but I've copied and pasted the most relevant sections: “In the face of great adversity, Nikita Hand held strong to her belief that the truth must be told and acknowledged in court. Today’s verdict will be met with relief by many survivors of sexual violence watching and listening closely to the narrative inside and outside the courtroom. “Thankfully the jury found in favour of Nikita Hand. But this case and the public commentary around it has also thrown up questions about how some of Irish society views victims of sexual violence. It illustrates that *there is still a culture of blame and judgement out there that has no place in a modern society. We need a greater awareness of how trauma affects people differently and accelerated action to change residual negative attitudes around sexual violence*. “Dublin Rape Crisis Centre has seen the profound effect the case has had on the community of people we support. Over the first 10 days of the trial, calls to the National Rape Crisis Helpline increased by almost 20%, with first-time callers increasing by 50% compared to the same period last year. These calls were largely from people who had experienced sexual violence themselves and who expressed distress and anxiety around details of the case and the views of people around them. “Dublin Rape Crisis Centre has heard from people who say *they have witnessed an increase in negative victim-blaming attitudes over the last 2 weeks*. Given the epidemic of sexual violence that exists in Ireland and that over half of women will experience some form of it in their lifetime, those attitudes have been picked up by a considerable number of people directly affected by this issue. “It will take some time to analyse all the issues that have arisen for survivors as a result of this case but when we have, Dublin Rape Crisis Centre intends to bring forward a range of victim-centred recommendations. "For now though, it is Nikita Hand’s day. All of us at Dublin Rape Crisis Centre wish her and her family the very best as they move on from this together.”

McGregor wasn't going to settle, not in a million years, there wasn't enough evidence to bring a case against him according to the DPP, a civil case is NOT meant to present beyond a reasonable doubt evidence, however in this case the evidence Nikita Hand presented was pretty weak, she acted in a deplorable and depraved manner on the night in question so did McGregor, but the most sickening thing in my view was her statement afterwards to waiting media that she did this for 'women' and for her daughter, Nikita Hand is most definitely not representative of me or ANY of the women who are my friends, if this case went to a court brought by DPP she would have lost. She brought it because he refused to settle the whole thing was in motion and she could not choose to stop it once it had gained a certain momentum. The whole thing is disgusting both of these people are horrendous and Terry McGorry you really don't know people if you can't acknowledge people like her exist in this world who will do ANYTHING for money. No attempt to leave, call for help, any assistance etc etc. 2) When she eventually got back home to her family/partner he didn’t buy it either. He left her. 3) She went to the Police and the Dpp concluded there wasn’t enough evidence to bring it to trial in a criminal court. Or at least be successful 4) when it did go to court -Civil- the burden of Truth/Evidence is much lower - 51% 5) There was 4 People concerned (Herself,McGregor,her friend and Laurence) 3 Of them said it didn’t happen 6) The judge was very unprofessional and biased. Telling the jury to admiss the cctv evidence etc and saying things like ‘You wouldn’t see the likes of it in America’ 7) out of a jury of 12 - 8 of them were women. 8) Laurence was found innocent. She accused Laurence also of Raping her but he was not found guilty. He was innocent. So by that admission she accused an innocent man. Nothing being said of that? So many of these facts have not been reported by The Media, left out or ignored. But he does care about being sued, and accused of maybe something he did not do. (Rape). And maybe she was just too greedy. So if you are both really tanked up, and you have sex with each other, and that person turns around afterwards, and says you raped them. Then it is your word against their word, and you go down that road. The number one point with this is, we were not there. So can we all be absolutely certain that we have the truth here from both parties? Things get very muddied very quickly when the Lawyers get involved. Where is the evidence that there was an attempt to settle.....?

Terry, why do you think the jury didn't award any punitive or aggravated damages. 248k won't even pay half of Mr Lawrence's costs.

Nice big garage there Terry and your your garden through the windows looks very nice and well kept .Who was that person who knocked on your garage door ?.It was edited out .Was it Miss Hand coming to thank you for your coverage which was sympathetic to her ? ;-)

pretty stupid to say people who are suspicious are just wrong when she literally lost to the other guy

I’m pretty sure the finding was that the “other guy” didn’t have sex with her- hence he couldn’t be found guilty of rape. No evidence (dna) was found, unlike McRape-er.

Completely one-sided coverage claiming impartiality, completely ignored all the most damning evidence against Ms Hand. Why?

Terry he said he will appeal the amount given by jury and damages to his name .what way will this work ?? I just remember johnny depp case vs amber heard

That's a different country - and of course he can appeal - it's simple as, you just file an appeal following due process

Rich lads in Ireland had their way with women whenever they wanted. They were seldomly held accountable and the women in many cases were sent to the nuns to pay off the costs of their care in slave conditions. It was a joke among the lads if some woman was up the pole as they say. The civil litigation tool is a small way to level the playing field. CM is your average gurrier who ended up rich and famous. The system worked and it’s a poor reflection on law enforcement that they didn’t have the guts to prosecute him for his actions.

It's the evidence that I have a problem with and the constant changing of her statements and there was lots of shaking and deep breaths but no tears. There is a huge question over him and his antics but if this evidence was presented against me or somebody I knew then I would be disgusted.

Have you ever encountered someone with an anxiety disorder before? There were many changes to Lawrence and McGregor stories. Was Lawrence picked up to be a wing man ... or did he just run down to the car to give mcgregor his phone back? Why did mcgregor call to Lawrence that morning since Lawrence claimed it wasn't to supply illegal substances. How many times with Lawrence alleged he slept with each woman? Was he bothered and annoyed with nikita and wanted nothing to do with her or did he engage in intercourse with her ?

Just goes to show how these cases are so hard to prosecute. Very hard to know the real truth without being there

@@CasuallySleuthing according to all of the texts that she deleted she knew she was meeting up with them. Anxiety has nothing to do with being accused of such a heinous thing. What I'm saying here is about the facts and if both people are lying then there cannot be a definitive end to this. Everytime you ask a question and there is no answer or an answer hasn't been sought proves this case was far from being heard thoroughly. People keep saying she deleted messages so her boyfriend wouldn't find out and it's not illegal to lie to your partner but it is illegal to lie in court and for whatever reason the judge wouldn't let McGregors council question why she deleted so many messages. Is this anxiety too?? That is a cop out considering the seriousness of these allegations. All of the evidence should have been allowed in. It was a witch hunt and my personal feelings towards McGregor should not be a factor. There is too many holes in her story, too many retractions, too many what ifs and not enough evidence. Karma has more than likely come for McGregor but for us as a people to allow a man to be found guilty because the public doesn't like him is wrong. Anxiety aside, she has to take responsibility as much as he does for what happened in that room but IF he forced himself on her then may he burn in hell but there is not enough to tar him forever with that name...even in civil court it's referred to as sexual assault and not rape because there is not enough truth/evidence to trial him for rape in Criminal court. If there is any doubt then he must be acquitted and there is a lot of doubt in this. No matter how you feel about him (his horrible ego/demeanour) or her ( her unreliable and many accounts of what happened and undiagnosed Anxiety ridden rambling). The law has let him down, let her down and all of us down by not accepting and reviewing all of the evidence.
