I would guess there is a lot of vetting by Tesla as well as a lot of stipulations that a reviewer must follow to get a vehicle from Tesla before it's widely available. Even if someone doesn't necessarily break their agreement, Tesla can always not send future vehicles if they don't like what the reviewer said. Many companies will also want to review the video before it's posted and can add language to the agreement that a reviewer can't post the video if they don't give the okay first. I obviously have no idea about any of the specifics regarding this particular video and have only heard of this practice regarding other EV products that were mentioned on a podcast.

He is a genius with EV's. Although I really don't think 700 amps is a slow charge. I am not very familar with all the modern technologies in car charging. But as an electrician, there is a major problem; there is not nearly enough power in the grid to charge multiples of 700 amp, 400 volt car chargers. Consider that a house is normally 200 amps, 240 volts. The largest houses with multiple large garages will take 600 amps, 240 volts. Every car charger is equal to about 3 standard houses of power consumption; and actually houses generally use very little power except during certain peak loads. Elon has said that the grid needs to be expanded by 300% at the minimum, in the next several years, in order to accommodate EV's. But you cannot just triple the grid, because the grid is limited by the wires on the power poles, and you cannot just triple the main feeder wires. You have to basically build a whole new grid, or tear down the existing grid and rebuild it. OR--the utilities will come up with a new method of generating power. I think that the 3rd option is the only viable option, because tripling the grid is not practical.

Two questions: You called the 120v outlets NEMA 5-15, but they have the horizontal blade that would normally make them 5-20 outlets. Can they put out 16 amps? Are they tied together or can you get 16 amps out of each one simultaneously or is it 16 amps total on the 120v circuits? Second, on the NEMA 14-50, can you please put a voltmeter on the outlet and see if there is a neutral as well as the two "hot" connections? If there is a neutral that measures 120v from the hot to that neutral on the 14-50, then that plug might be able to tie from the truck to a home's power panel on a manual lower-power basis to power a home that doesn't have all the expensive automatic interface hardware...

@Cloxxki8 ай бұрын
4680s, "world's cheapest bestest in-house cells, 2.0" are key to the success of Cybertruck, Semi Truck and Roadster. The specs promised: 500 mi, 500 mi @60 mph @ max load, 200 kWh, just are not possible with their barely 300 Wh/kg cells. It takes 500 Wh/kg, and might marginally work with 450 Wh/kg. Elon scribbled something on a napkin and they went with that for 5 years, it seems. He knows more about manufacturing than anyone alive, after all... Imagine a Roadster with 200 kWh if they could only get 123 kWh in this truck and some 50 kWh extra with the extender. But in a Model 3 sized sports car....also weighing 6600 lbs. Pure insanity to promise 200 kWh when Elon previously said no car needed more than 400 miles, 100 kWh. The promised of 1.9 0-60 has now been met by a Lucid Air the same price as the hyped Spartan New Roadster, but that one's 118 kWh or so, about what's practical unless 3 tons is cool for you. It would be laughably bad on track with 3 tons, let alone harder to make "fly" with those Space X boosters promised. The way Tesla builds cards houses of promises is really disconcerting. And now also various choices which can only take away road safety. Long list there.

The issue with the wireless charging isn’t that HVAC makes it more efficient, it is that the charging coils don’t line up well with the phone coils. In addition, the hump from the camera lenses causes it to be not flat. They need to add MagSafe and have a way to elevate the charging coils slightly so the phone lays flat to actually fix the issue and get good charging speed.
@WillTheBassPlayer8 ай бұрын
the layer of material between the coil and the outside is also pretty thick. I almost exclusively wireless charge by Samsung at home, but in the Model Y and 3, any time I tried to charge in the car I have to almost push the phone onto the area to get it to activate (I do have a case, but its relatively thin and it doesn't cause any issue on ordinary chargers) all this to say, yeah the Tesla wireless phone charger suck for other phones too

The interior radar has been used on the Model S and X refresh. It doesn’t show up on service mode for those though. While exactly what it does isn’t well documented, I have noticed that placing my toddler in her car seat and then closing the door keeps the MCU active and climate control turned on. This is with her seat set to “car seat mode” which causes it to ignore the occupancy sensor for it and not show seatbelt alerts, note that the actual seatbelt is always connected. I have also noticed that moving my arm over the passenger seat triggers a seatbelt alert on it, even with no weight on the seat.

I just figured it out in another comment. It's a "Stupid KZbinr" mode. So that way if someone tries something really stupid like putting a few bags of potatoes in the driver's seat, then hopping into the back seat, while it's self driving, the radar can detect there's no human there.

Since the DC fast charging is split and the range extender battery is expensive and takes up bed and payload, an option for a second charge port on the other side might be interesting. Then you could charge using two DC pedestals at 400V for faster charging. Since most of the hardware to allow such a feature might already be present just need the second charge port, maybe some additional hardware and firmware changes? Range/efficiency comparison with and without the side mirrors would be interesting I think. Supposedly there are plastic caps in the glove box to cover the hole left in the door by removing the mirrors.
@jaredjohnson85538 ай бұрын
US govt should get with the program and approve mirrors for side view use. That being said, I am not at ALL a fan of a car manufacturer cheating the system and making it so easy to skirt safety regulations. And then claim deniability when it comes to liability as Tesla undoubtedly will....

Wow, no 12v outlets. I can’t say I’m that surprised, but that seems like an oversight if they didn’t include at least one for accessory compatibility.

Just plug in your laptop charger directly into the outlet like at home.

@@starshipdriver8536 I'm not talking about a laptop. I'm talking about things like Radar detectors and other devices that were built specifically for use in cars that only come with 12v power cords. Sure you could buy an adapter, but you really shouldn't have to in a $100k truck. I don't have a use for a computer in my car which happens to be for driving.

@@johndavis7257 Get the radar that powers off usb-c. I don’t want the inferior 12v cig lighter in my truck. I want a 48v system with real outlets that can power anything.
@johndavis72578 ай бұрын
@@starshipdriver8536 they can power things just fine. Buying a new car shouldn’t require to replace everything else you own. A single 12v outlet would have been fine. It’s not inferior it’s different. The entire car doesn’t need 48v. 48v isn’t even necessarily better it just saves Tesla a bunch of money as they can now cheap out on wiring harnesses and give you less while charging the same while forcing you to buy replacement parts from them as light bulbs, batteries, and a host of other things will no longer work with your fancy bleeding edge truck. And you can forget modding anything like a normal light bar or winch onto it as those are all 12v too. It’ll eventually catch up so that it’s probably unnecessary, but as with anything new there’s a transition period and it should come with a 12v rail and connectors to make that simpler. They didn’t care because fanboys like you will throw money at them either way and they’ll happily con you out of it by telling you it’s “revolutionary”.
@starshipdriver85368 ай бұрын
@@johndavis7257 I’m not replacing a damn thing, just plug in the charging brick into the outlet, no cig adapter from a 12v that can’t even charge a gaming laptop that needs 19.5V. 48v is revolutionary, thinner gauge wires that allows steer by wire and all those gadgets that can be charged at home can be charged the same way in the cybertruck with household outlets. If it can be powered by the 12v cig lighter , it can be powered by the 65w usb-c port or the 120v outlet The lightbar is easily installed on top, not an issue and third party Tesla accessories will be even better because of no 12v limitations. Luddites like can you can stick with your cig lighters , distributer ignition, carburetors, and nokia brick phones. I will get the vehicle that actually reflects the modern society we live in today, with our usb-c iPhones and induction cooktops to power tools that can easily be powered by the cybertruck.

Great coverage! Suggestion: perhaps you could put the referral codes for the person who lent you the truck in the descriptions under the CT videos. Also, on other models you can still reach Disney+ via the browser. If you do then it shows up again in the theater menu. It never left the theater menu on my Y.

I like that the CT seems more of a "feature complete" car than other Teslas have been at launch. Most of the issues seem to be software related, and the fit and finish looks good on the cars I've seen so far (on youtube). I am a little sad that Tesla didn't go all out and make the CT a luxury interior, but I guess that's not how Tesla rolls.
