They really need to nail down reading School zone signs.
@jasonberger3227
@jasonberger3227 8 сағат бұрын
They need to train it to not only read school zone signs, but also recognize when it is actually a school zone vs the regular speed. This may be one of the hardest Use Cases to solve IMO. It needs to associate the flashing Yellow indicator (when there is one) and the school zone speed. Or they will need to train it to always obey the school zone speed, which would be really annoying on a weekend or in the evening. Again, this is a really tough Use Case to solve.

I’m surprised it took longer for school zones than speed bumps. Aren’t they all registered on map data? If Tesla had the argument that enforcements are irregulars and unposted, lobby for the requirement of publishing those times. After all, not all zones have the flashing lights.

It is awesome, but don’t get too far ahead of yourself. Though I guess my definition of driving has changed. Is it considered driving if you literally only have to interact with the car for a matter of seconds per trip? A Turn signal here or there to choose a lane. Maybe taking over for the last 0.1 miles since FSD sometimes pulls into a parking lot, but doesn’t park itself.

While in autonomous mode the cars should have an led bar above the top of the window that lights up yellow in the direction of a pedestrian at a crosswalk. Pedestrians are mostly unpredictable however if the pedestrian can see that the Tesla sees them, then the pedestrian can be decisive in crossing. The FSD would then have faster and more accurate response times around pedestrian crossings.

At that time the person in the red car was not stopped to talk to someone. They were waiting for the black car in front of them to park. Great video and I'm excited to try this new update. I have 2024 MYLR (hw4) and my issues are rarely in congested areas.. Its the more open areas, similar to the end of this video, where the 12.5.4.1 version slams on brakes, veers for no reason and always gets in the wrong lane.
@ProXcaliber
@ProXcaliber 10 минут бұрын
I had a really weird incident myself today with FSD (12.5.4.1). I was on the highway and the off-ramp I needed to take was coming up, but there was a line of cars coming up and no one would open up a space to let us in. FSD had its turn signal on for a little over a quarter of a mile, but still no one would budge. Once it got within about 0.3 to 0.2 of a mile from the off-ramp, it pulled an extremely hard right into the lane it needed to be in, almost going into the side barrier on the highway. It was very scary and completely unexpected, but luckily I was able to take control and put it back in the lane before turning FSD back on after the exit. I honestly don't know what caused it to do that, since up to that point I've never had it react so strangely. The weather was clear, but it was early morning and the highway I was on is very well lit, if that matters.

Seeing how FSD (Supervised) performs in different conditions like rain would be interesting. From your channel it seems the last time you tested it in rain was 3 years ago with version 10.
@FriedChairs
@FriedChairs 8 сағат бұрын
Probably because it makes the same decisions whether it’s raining or not so you are basically testing at what point does it break down and stop working. To your point though there are definitely environmental conditions where it will not work so it would be nice to know how Tesla plans to handle that in a car with no manual takeover.
@DurandsDesigns
@DurandsDesigns 7 сағат бұрын
@@FriedChairs My guess is it would pull over and put on it's four ways as soon as possible. Pretty much the same as a human would do if the weather was so bad you can't see. At that point it would contact Tesla for intervention I would think. The same as Waymo does. I would think that in the future it could read the weather radar data and maybe not take a drive if really bad weather was ahead. Or be linked to other cars ahead who have experienced extreme weather conditions and pull over and park until the weather has cleared.

My biggest complaint with FSD is it gets the speed limits wrong. What is weird on my residential street which is 25 MPH is the speed the navigation system displays depends on the direction I enter the street. It will choose 25, 30 or 45 mph. My street changes to 45 MPH at the junction but car always does 25. I love FSD and in my experience it is very save so please Team Tesla get the speed limits correct.
@ryanwelsch9384
@ryanwelsch9384 3 сағат бұрын
For me here on Long Island, I would say that most of the time it reads the speed limit correctly. However, sometimes it still seems to be reading the route number signs as the speed limit and on 25A between Smithtown and Port Jefferson going east, it will sometimes hold the registered speed limit at 40 mph even though the car reads the 45mph and 35 mph signs on that stretch of road.

This new version of FSD 12.56 looks super impressive! The improvements in speed control and how smoothly it handles various situations, especially with pedestrians, are great to see. The ability to adjust speed with the scroll wheel is a nice touch, though I still wish it could stick closer to the speed limits in some areas. It’s also a bit frustrating when outdated map data causes issues, but overall, this is a huge step forward. Looking forward to more updates!

This is a bug. FSD failed to cancel right-turn signal after Navigation reroute. 10:05 FSD starts signaling right to turn right on Maynard St to go to HopCat waypoint. 10:06 Supervisor deletes HopCat waypoint and Navigation planner reroutes to go straight instead of making a right. For the disengagement, in hindsight it was correct to pass, but based on what your in car camera saw, I would not have passed there, so I think it should stay. If the majority disagrees however, I don't think it's unreasonable, it's almost a coin toss. Also in terms of "I had a really great experience and it sucks to hear people have a bad experience", my hardware 3 model 3 on 12.5.4.1 has behaved poorly compared to older versions, and someone else I know with a hardware 4 model 3 has nothing but good things to say, so it might come down to that.

The big problems I have with 12.5.4.1 HW3 is 1. Speed! Goes too slow and will refuse to get up to the speed limit even if I force it it will slow back down. 2. Famtom speed limits. It will not see the drop in speed from 70MPH to 55MPH. It will think the speed is 50-55-50 all within 200 feet. No signs in that area other than 50MPH before and one after it does that. Sometimes it will think the speed on the highway is 5MPH. There are many different spots that I drive that it does stuff like that. 3. There are 90 degree bends in the road that it thinks it needs to use a turn signal on. Its not turning onto another road and its the only way to go. 4. With this version it has slammed on the brakes at some green lights and a few times at caution lights. 5. It does not know what lane to get into when there is a straight lane and a turn lane. Sometimes It can make the decition but its usually too late to get into the correct lane. 6. Sometimes it refuses to use a turn signal to merge onto the highway. 7. It will get into the left lane for NO reason even when set to minimal lane change. When its in the left lane it will camp there and wont move to the right. Sometimes when its in the left lane I will use my turn signal to move to the right and it will refuse the request. Since there is no report button I've been forcing disengaging every time it does these things and report it that way. Other than that as far as driving and navigation its pretty ok. Still not going to pay for the subscription until v13 is released then I will give it another try.

My exact experience with 12.5.4.1 I paid for version 11.x last fall and had the previous free month with several versions thru 12.3.6 12.5.4.1 is awful. Stops abruptly for flashing yellow lights. Stopped for 5 cross walks in a row with no pedestrians in sight. This was on a busy 4 lane divided road. Truly unsafe. Even EAP phantom brakes, and stops for flashing yellow lights. Since regular Autopilot is unavailable once you have FSD, my car is now less capable than before the “upgrade”. Tesla's MAJOR mistake for FSD was removing the radar/lidar sensors. In rain or fog, these would make ALL the difference, being able to do what vision cannot. And even the finest cameras are not as sensitive in low light as the human eye, so Elon has pretty much guaranteed that _his_ FSD will never out-perform a human.
@foshizzlemanizzle4753
@foshizzlemanizzle4753 9 сағат бұрын
It depends on the camera. There most definitely are cameras that have better low light vision and just better vision in general than any human. Also lidar is susceptible to weather effects like rain and fog. I think having a relatively simple radar system to avoid large objects in heavy rain/snow/fog/smoke and help with proximity detection while focusing on making the best performing vision system is the safest and most effective method.

Yeah, I'm very disappointed with v12.5.4.1. v12.3.6 was awesome and made me really excited for the next update, only for v12.5.4.1 to be a major regression. Phantom breaking all over the place, questionable decisions, and lots of jerky movement. At this point, I'd gladly take v12.5.6.1 (or whatever other version next goes wide and makes it to my 2019 M3) just being as good as v12.3.6 + ASS, vision monitoring, and speed profiles.

What about: advance green left turns, sign that say reduce speed when flashing, school buses, trying to pass buses that are signalling to re-enter traffic, emergency vehicles, excess passing on multilane streets... I turned my FSD off 12.5.4.1. Will the next update work for me? I dislike how it does not enter the upcoming left turn lane allowing aggressive drivers to block entry into the lane.

year or two ago when setting speed and fsd did try to go that speed was pretty sketchy tbh i did set it to high a few times and it would definitely be more dangerous to keep that feature built in imo , I just use the accelerator pedal if i want fsd to go faster and at least then its on me if something goes horribly wrong

WholeMarsCatalog has some examples in his most recent videos. For example, driving 10 under an already too slow speed limit WILL cause an accident. It is not a matter of if, but when. Almost 100% of the time you need to be following traffic, not always speed limit signs. For example, there is a road right outside of my neighborhood, it has a 25 MPH speed limit, FSD LOVES to drive 20 when traffic is going 40. Because that is the speed of the flow of traffic, which is what it should follow.

For that questionable disengagement, I'd say the car did the right thing by not passing. The other car should have moved a lot quicker and you would have been in the way. If the other car knew how to drive, it wouldn't have been a problem.

Oh man... i really wish in europe we would get that soon. But i heard that the regulatory will only allow it on highway, city streets seem to be a dream... till 2028 when they may reconsider that... im so sad and angry... i hope that is not the case but it seems like it. :( The regulatory seems to perfectly fit a system from a german car brand... so yeah... we will not see fsd till some europe car brand will have a similar system.

I would count it as a disengagement, I think in that scenario it would have been good to wait a bit longer before going around. Impatient drivers would disagree, but fsd needs to be calm, patient and safe. 16:00

This is why I disagree with having robotaxi in my car. In a robotaxi, just go exactly the speed limit. Presumably I’m in the back seat or watching Netflix. But in my personal vehicle, let’s say I’m driving from LA to LV, I want it to park in the left lane doing 85 for example. Even if they get the software right, I don’t think a lot of people will use it, as most people drive like they have somewhere to be.

I don’t see the issue with going the speed limit if it’s 100 hands off. Out of sight out of mind and maybe costs you an extra five minutes of travel time. When that happens….tbd. I think Musk is still way overly optimistic Right now it’s pretty great the way it is paying attention but acting as you have two drivers, greatly reducing your likelihood of an accident.

How close is FSD on just controlled access highways to reaching L3?
@jasonberger3227
@jasonberger3227 7 сағат бұрын
Pretty sure it is a regulatory issue. FSD could technically be L3 everywhere today. L3 is kind of a meaningless designation, which Tesla will skip and go right to L4.
@edhill8568
@edhill8568 5 сағат бұрын
@@jasonberger3227 Technically yes but 2 issues. First, Tesla would have to accept liability for any accidents where FSD is determined to be at fault. Second FSD would have to improve the hand off messaging/alert to it provides the "driver" time to take over. Today FSD doesn't support that. L3 on controlled access highways would make it easier for Tesla to accommodate both. I don't expect Tesla to go to L3 though.

I don't see this ever happening because it will create too many variables and doesn't fall in the "but one day every car will be autonomous and we won't need need it, even though we're living in today", but as I was letting the car drive I had a thought. I think part of the reason so many people have different experiences with FSD is because not only is the driving style is so different depending on where the car driving, but so is the driver. The Chill/Standard/Hurry is an attempt to fix it, but if all user input is error, what the car should do is learn from how the cars around it are driving, and from the car make the turn the various dials up and down on neural net to match. Similarly, learn from watching when the driver is in control and try to match that style as well. I say this with full awareness of my ignorance to AI training and it might not be possible because how of the training is performed outside of the car with Dojo.

Two things: this kind of technological progress is not linear so it may go from seemingly impossible one day to completely solved the next. Also, while Elon has made numerous optimistic predictions around FSD in the past, this time Tesla is planning to start building 2million cars a year with no controls, starting in 2026 so they must feel like it’ll be ready.

What bugs me is this totally cavalier attitude towards the speed laws; like it's optional and you can drive however fast you feel like. Now thats not even an individual attitude, it's getting built right into the software to ignore the traffic laws. Does anyone else see anything even a little wrong with this?

I totally agree. If it is okay to go 40mph in a 30 mph speed limit zone, then the speed limit should be 40 mph. The cops and the people that decide what speed limit signs to put up need to get together on this.
