Literally drove whole route and navigated a potential accident! The 2 or 3 slow turns probably added 30 seconds to the trip but wow, impressive how assertive and stable it was, othrwise!

FYI - when the “Auto” speed UI disappears on the HWY is goes back to V11 for HWYs. V12 only applies to city streets. Also, auto park isn’t in V12 now. An update from Tesla said it’s coming in a future branch being tested now. Lastly, it will find a parking spot if you are in a downtown scenario where it just pulls off to the curb. V12.1 used to pull into parking spots like in your video but that behavior was removed in V12.3 (probably because of the fender bender incident that delayed the release of V12.3 wide release). Good to see you back on the road!

This has really been the update of all updates. Almost every spot before where it screwed up has been fixed and the driving is just so smooth its ridicolous. The only thing I find myself doing alot more then previously is giving it a few nudges here and there. Taking it a few hundred miles this weekend and looking forward for a nice road trip on V12

To me it seems like FSD Beta reacted way too slow (for a computer) to the brake lights of the car in front and because of that had to brake excessively hard which in turn makes the accordion effect for the car behind you much stronger. Not super impressed with that.

Press right Steering wheel button and say "Turn Wipers Off". You can also switch to Dark mode on the screen which looks much better and is easier to read.

Sooooo much better! It finally has been able to make the two toughest left turns in my area that it has never been able to do. About four or five updates back it was able to make one of the left turns but not the really bad one where it is on an off ramp, on a hill, at a light, can’t see the lanes to turn left where there is a left turn only that starts at that intersection along with two lanes that go straight. I didn’t believe it the first time it made it as I thought it was a fluke, but it has continued to make that left turn both day and night ever since this latest update.

This is the same issue I have with standard autopilot. The car is way too delayed to brake and then super aggressive with the braking. Rear end risk.

Yes a nice benefit of FSD 12.3 is you can turn wipers off. Which right now for me has been good in non highway, but second I get on highway they go crazy. I noticed it gave me option to turn Auto Wiper setting to off.

In the newest version (rolling out soon) you can tap on the screen to select a parking spot. I think the “parking lot wandering” behavior is the precursor to having that ability. It is giving you a choice of parking spots, just not letting you actually execute on it (yet).

A couple of things I’ve noticed on 12.3 after 600 miles of using it. You can not select single or double tap to enter FSD, if you single tap you do not get adaptive cruise, you get FSD. The menu selection to use single or double tap is greyed out. Also if you turn the wheel you disengage FSD but it does not default to adaptive cruise like it used to. There is no way to use adaptive cruise by itself unless you go into the menu and disable FSD.

Just did a cross country trip from east coast to west coast us in v11.4.2 and had no interventions past 1 construction zone on a highway. I think highways are solved and suburban roads are now solved with 12.3 pretty much, downtown cities maybe time will tell

It is amazing technology but in the end you can either drive your car or supervise your car driving. Besides the coolness factor not much advantage there. When you can recline your seat and take a nap on the way to your destination then FSD has arrived.

Don't fully agree on that near miss. Looks like it was moving too fast relative to a cautious driver going into a construction zone where a sudden stop was on the table. Maybe most drivers would have had to slam the brakes like that. But I feel like that is a situation I would have dropped speed much sooner.

Maybe but the car was going at the speed of everyone else as that is what the max speed was set to with the new auto feature. I tend to think most would drive the speed of traffic.

glad you are safe and this is exactly what I've been wondering - how will FSD behave in a potential accident scenario? is looks like you intervened and slammed on the breaks - did you help avoid the accident or would have FSD completely broke without any intervention saving you from an accident? also do you think FSD broke sooner than you would have been able to yourself?

I out of habit tapped the brake after the car was already locked up. It 100% stopped itself I just took over after since it was telling me to very loudly on my screen. I don't think I could have reacted as fast. Maybe if I was perfectly paying attention and watching for that exactly thing but chances are the car which doesn't get distracted would have reacted faster.

Waaaa😢My M3 bricked overnight while trying to load 12.3, turns out it will be getting a stay at the Fife service center to replace a PTC heater module … Apparently it is a common problem for 2019 M3’s built between May and Oct 2019 🙀 But you had a nice drive 🎉

The freeway seems to be worse on 12.3 from personal experience. I understand that freeway is not v 12.3 but it sure has regressions from 11.4.9. Takes many more incorrect turn lanes 😢

At 10:28 what about the 3-second Rule? If you follow too closely to the guy in front of you, then you might have to brake hard. FSD is not allowing enough space in front of you.

Does FSD allow you to control the space in front of you like regular auto-steer? One second is just barely enough (it worked here, but cause the driver behind to swerve). I find 2-seconds works well, and that value is the maximum value for auto-steer. Three seconds wouldn't work on our highways. It would significantly reduce traffic capacity.

Its a shame that AEB has control over the system, as it turned off because of it (ik it would have turned of anyway as u hit the brakes). would be good if tesla made it no AEB while in fsd, because then the system can drive how it likes without the cars safety features having control over it.

That fact that autopilot had to brake so quickly, shows that it was following the car in front too closely. You should never had to slam on the brakes if there is enough distance between you and the car in front. Drivers training 101. I'm not that impressed with v12 from all the video's I've watched. Yes, it's better but not great. Then again I actually haven't driven my car since it updated to it, so maybe I'll actually be impressed when I do. And yeah, when will Tesla finally address the auto wiper issue?! Maybe they need to use a dash sensor like other vehicles have, it works way better than Tesla's camera/software solution.
