You should have gone back to that work zone and talked to the sign guy to have him flip it to stop next time by. Could have arranged for both cars to have it happen. These are the edge cases that Tesla is looking for. Sometimes we may have to make them occur.

Neither Hardware 3 nor Hardware 4 indicated when exiting a roundabout. This is a requirement in many states. I think I am the only person in America who does this. Years of training in the UK where this practice is commonplace, and required. I get that in the US people may not know this rule because roundabouts are pretty rare, but the car should know all the rules of the road and indicate where required to do so.

Your navigation is in the top right hand corner of the screen. If you swipe from right to left it will open up as a large screen for you to see everything. Swiping it back is easy too. Of course, you know this. But it's a good teaching point for some.

I have been following you for several years and you have been great, but I must say this was an absolutely fantastic video and one of your best. Brilliant and very instructive. I have a Tesla Model Y here in Australia with Auto Pilot but I rarely use it as I find I suffer more stress overseeing it's operation than just driving the car myself. It's like teaching my kids to drive again. Do you find this also?

Last month, with 12.3.6, my Model Y LR chose to avoicd traffice cones and hit a high curb with no warning. Ruined a new Hankook Ion and the front riight Gemini wheel. I left the repaid center nearly $1,300 poorer (plus $300 for a longer tow ride) and a Continental tire with my 3 remaining Hankooks. Maintaining “full control at all times” doesn’t work when there’s no warning at all.

That’s a bummer! I tested FSD a bit in my Y and the car waited too long to merge to prepare for a freeway exit and another car was merging into that space already. Seemed like it would have crashed had I not taken over. I quit using FSD after that. It still needs a lot more work.

1. I have a 2022 Model 3 with Hardware 3 and I have been running the latest version of FSD. It works spectacularly well on my Model 3. I was not a fan of the earlier versions of FSD, but the newest version is a HUGE improvement on the older versions. Tesla's FSD is genuinely useful now. 2. On my car with HW3, the car will not go through a yellow light. It will panic stop at yellow lights if necessary. This doesn't bother me because it is the safest thing to do. 3. The car automatically switches to "Chill" mode at night without my input when using FSD. I haven't tried to change it yet. 4. You can adjust the car to move with traffic, and it will exceed the speed limit in order to follow traffic. 5. In a 30 mph zone, the car recognized the speed limit sign but kept trying to go 40 mph. 6. The car recognizes marked speed bumps and automatically slows down. I am still determining what it does with unmarked speed bumps. 7. I had problems activating the ASS function the first time that I used it, but that probably is because I am still learning how to use it. Overall, I would rate the FSD on my 2022 Model 3 as 9 out of 10. It is the best autonomous driving system on the market, and it is approaching the point where it will be fully autonomous.

@@XRP-O.G True, But it appears that Tesla will pay for the hardware upgrade if that is the case. From what I understand, all new Tesla cars can have their hardware upgraded by design. Because self-driving is so complex, I believe the entire industry will have to go this route. Really, it only makes sense and it's not that hard to make the main computer and cameras easy to upgrade.

As someone with the obsolete Hardware 2.5, I was told by Tesla that they will upgrade for free to Hardware 3 if I purchased FSD but would have to pay for the upgrade if I want to subscribe. I suspect they will do the same if it becomes necessary to go from 3 to 4. I think Tesla would not lose either way as they will probably start raising the price if it gets to the point of using it to make money.

I purchased my Model Y with FSD at full price to sponsor the development of the capabilities. Now if to get FSD I need a hardware upgrade it is on Tesla’s camp to fulfill the requirements of those who trusted the brand from the beginning. I bet it will be cheaper to upgrade on those who bought the option than dealing with legal issues down the road. In the end , it is a matter or honouring the deal and keep brand loyalty. Competition is fierce and will soon affect Tesla’s dominance in the market.

Just like in photography, higher resolution camera video processing demands higher processing speed. HW4 needs more processing power to just process more data, but as photographers know, the image data is still there. Of course, Elon has to say HW4 is better, but HW3 may actually be on par with it. There must be a huge increase in processing power to make any meaningful difference. The Robotaxi probably uses this higher capable processor. I just drove 100+ miles on FSD 12.5.4.1 and it was pretty good on both highway and city traffic. Traffic flow consistency, keeping up with traffic, needs improvement, and too brisk acceleration from a complete stop needs improvement. In your video, the driving is pretty much the same in both cars. The later HW3 cars are more comfy and quieter than the earlier ones by far.
@adairmartin
@adairmartin 27 күн бұрын
One thing to consider is there are a LOT of HW3 cars that have NOT purchased FSD. Elon has only said that those who purchased FSD would get the upgrades. So, does that mean that if someone is buying FSD month to month qualifies for the upgrade? How about those who purchased FSD later, after the initial purchase? Would a car get upgraded even if they never use FSD? From what I understand, only a minority of the HW3 cars have purchased the FSD package. So, maybe not very many would actually qualify for the free upgrade (if needed).
@ChitFromChinola

Random hard slow down, cutting in front of cars dangerously on other lanes to speed up and waiting until the last second to switch lanes to take an exit instead of being in the right lane a mile or two ready to take the exit. I had to intervene 3 times in a 35 minute drive 🤯😰👎🏼 Model 3 2024 refresh

Then when I got home the car did pretty amazing other then the one misshape but once I got home it couldn't figure out how to turn into my driveway, it started to then stopped half in the road and half in the driveway. That aside, FSD beeps at me constantly and it is loud and annoying and hurts the ears! The cameras are not able to see the sides of the road well enough when it is a dark night. (Hardware 3, 2021 standard range plus)… additionally, with snow tires on, Tes will start whipping back and forth in the lane. Over corrective steering. Scares the crap out of other drivers!!! Additionally, when passing trucks, Tes will sometimes move in front of the truck after passing with only a couple cars length of space. NOT OK!

14:00. Tesla said it would be too costly to retrofit, because they don't want to do it, and they didn't think they would need to do it, so they up played the difficulty. But at the same time, Tesla is contractually obligated to deliver FSD to the customers who bought it, so if they can't ship FSD on HW3, then they will have to upgrade it. So since it now looks like something they might have to do, they are trying to not freakout the investors.

Great video. Enjoy these comparisons. I don’t think Elon will retrofit HW3 cars, certainly not for free, because where is the incentive to buy a replacement car with HW4 technology. Nonetheless it seems like these old cars (I have one) are doing just fine with FSD. I was very impressed with the HW3 and really have no desire to get a HW4 car, especially when they are equipped with haptic buttons on the steering wheel to control the indicator lights

The incentive for Elon is the data to feed into his new supercomputers. The more FSD users in the network, the better the network performs. Every FSD user is a data point that makes the algorithm better.

7:28 "Plays it safe and lets the car pass" I would say, it failed to recognize it had its own lane. Such a mistake means failure (or penalty points) during the driving exam in Europe...

The removal of the radar was a mistake as it would fill in gaps of the visual sensors reducing some of the errors that FSD does.

I wouldn't send HW3 or 4 out as taxis completely on their own but computationally it's quite possible to make HW3 fully capable of driving on its own, just might not be responsible in the long run to do it.

I wonder if they could offer a steep discount for those of us with HW3 towards the purchase of a new Tesla? Would really help with sales numbers too. 🤷😁🤞

The issue with the eye tracking is that it takes almost no time before the flashing screen and chime take over, if your eyes aren’t on the road as you know. In this scenario, it took a good 10-20 seconds to figure out which destination we were navigating to.

That encounter with the black SUV has to count as a fail. When two vehicles reach the intersection at the same time, the vehicle on the right has the right of way. FSD should have waited for it to proceed.

Has anyone tried FSD at night? On unlit highways, it will popup FSD performance degraded... and if you cancel the FSD, you can't re-enable it. The little steering wheel disappears. Happened tonight on my trip home tonight.

Retrofit is a bad idea. No.1 batteries will be much better. The car itself will be much better. Maybe Tesla should give us a nice discount to upgrade on a trade-in that wouldn't happen for non FSD owners. Then resell the car w/o FSD and let any new owners make the choice to purchase FSD or not.

Think that potential retrofit is to save them from legal drama. The cost of replacing the hardware probably pales in comparison to all the wasted money they'd have to deal with via class action lawsuits. Unfortunately they marketed all those cars the same with hardly nothing to distinguish them by so everyone expects their hardware 3 to eventually have robotaxi level unsupervised driving and being that that's what he said and what people invested in they must do it. I also assume that's why fsd transfer continue to happen because it's not only fair to give since people already paid for a non realized product but it's good business. You're literally giving them the software they've technically already paid for but they're paying for a new vehicle and staying in the brand.

Hardware 3 only needs to be updated if you already own it. Not if you buy it after it finally works. Tesla will should make the statement FSD on hardware 3 has to be purchased before FSD is stated as complete

You’re brave to trust Tesla to self drive on those narrow roads with oncoming traffic. I’d be too superstitious that it would make a mistake and swerve into oncoming traffic.
