You make an interesting point though about other manufacturers' cars after salvage repair though I'd imagine Tesla have the ability to link into the Insurer Database, and given that each car has an identity which is able to be read when you plug it in to the charge station, it wouldn't take an awful lot of computer power to maintain a list of unapproved/blocked vehicles.

Great video on the Tesla. Main dealers charge such an extreme hourly labour rate. The money doesn’t go to the staff. I worked out VW charge £1000 Labour for 2 hours to replace pads and rotors. The rub is they normally use the apprenticeship staff who are on £6 an hour.
@vamboroolz16122 жыл бұрын
@Big Red the £89 per hour rate will be against their book timings for each job. I had an issue a few years back where I needed a key fob coded to a transit van. Ford wanted to charge an hour and a half labour for this. I went home and found out that it has be completed in under 10 seconds or you have to start again. Needless to say that after going back to the main dealer and ranting at them, I did it myself. Book timings for jobs are a major rip off.

When you say oil do you mean diesel? Round here diesel is 30p a litre more than petrol, diesel makes absolutely no sense any more. @@simonbroddle754 For your needs yes I agree probably, diesel currently makes more sense but do you always tow a fully loaded 2T trailer over long distances? I don't care if people want to buy an EV. That is their business. Don't force me to buy one. I don't want to. This video is one reason, I don;t like the idea of a remote function that turns off features in my car or anything like that. If I bought my car, I will do what I want with it. Someone else controlling functions is not what ownership is about. i also wouldn't buy one because the price is absurd. The environmental benefits are suspect at best at this time, depending on which study you read they are either worse by far then ICE, about the same, marginally better if you can run it for at least ten years(sounds like no so far on that one!) or if you go by the TV they will reverse all environmental damage and make everyone live in a utopia. Most importantly, the battery is like sitting on top of a bomb. If it cracks, the car goes up like an erupting volcano. At least it would be an instant death. Don;t believe me? Go watch a video of people exposing the inside of a cell phone battery or cordless tool battery to air. Now imagine something with exponentially more stored energy. There is a reason besides corporate greed tesla wants you to get inspected. They can't afford to knowingly strain a battery that was in an accident knowing what could happen if it is damaged and opens up. I don't think the tech is ready. If you do, that's your business and you can indulge all you want and I won't bother you for it. I don't want one, don't force me to buy one.

And a whoooooole lot of other vehicles. The only reason this would stop is because a nanny gov't that wants to tell me how to live makes it illegal. Meanwhile, my Mother in law's one year old Jeep Cherokee sat at the dealer with 14k miles on it because it needed a new drivers door handle assembly because the factory one leaked. It took 7 months for it to come in, and two more weeks for them to install it. Nothing like 7 months of car payments and insurance premiums for a car sitting on a dealer lot to inspire buyer confidence in new cars. Maybe you should go watch the video of the guy with his brand new Hummer EV that died on a 6 lane road on his way back home across town and had to have a tow truck drag it onto a flatbed to take it to the dealership because "safe mode" wouldn't even let them put it in neutral to roll it or open the hood.

This is not encouraging me to even think about changing to an EV any time soon! It is outrageous that a company can just turn things on and off remotely.

They can, you are controlled, and will be assimilated.

Hi Paul. Next they could Block your car completely 😳 I don't like that we need an "APP" to use the car 🤔 We don't with Petrol or Diesel. Why cannot we just plug in and Pay ??? Everyone is Controlling us........ I'm sure if they wanted they could just stop us driving our EV's....At a switch 😟 I'm defo not getting a EV soon. Keep doing your great Vids P......👍

Plenty of EVs don't use an app. They'd never get away with blocking cars outright.

Jaguar LR dealerships are £200 per hour as is Porsche etc £165 isn't that bad. Tesla is protecting their own chargers/network from damage, can't blame them really, if it was your network would you allow potentially dubiously repaired cars to plug in? I know I wouldn't.
@tedmoss2 жыл бұрын
Damage to the charging network is the least of their problems, they are protected by safety equipment. The car is not if it has a fault. (Except if the cars safety systems are working), as an aside, what about the airbags?

What if someone has accident repaired VW ID.3 ? And use those open superchargers where non-tesla cars can charge, tesla will not know if that ID.3 safe or not, but still can charge, it's not equal for tesla users and EU could make new rule about this.

Any European Court judgement will have no bearing on supercharging in the UK. We're no longer in the EU.

Doesn't matter, it will never go to court.

With modern EVs having a range of over 300 miles, the benefit of the Tesla supercharging network is not really there for most people. I only ever charge at home. I might use a public charger 2 or 3 times a year although I haven't used one so far. It's claimed as being the reason you must buy a Tesla, but it's irrelevant to most people now.

All main dealers charge about the same rate, even Korean manufacturers. Tesla do have the right to "update" your car and restrict options that are fitted. Always read the paperwork when you buy any car as Peugeot, Cupra, Skoda, BMW etc. can update your car over the secure link YOU agree to. Have you got live traffic updates on your dab radio which you pay an annual charge for ? I declined Peugeot live data as I use my phone and £70 plus a year isn't worth it.

Tesla is the Apple of Electric cars. Do everything possible to keep the prices as high as possible and squeeze every penny out of the consumer.
