Thanks to Joe Solo for pointing out the safety and crash test data difference between the 3 and Y with the Y getting the edge in safety. Both the 3 and Y have 5-star safety ratings and top marks from IIHS and other safety organizations, but the Y outperformed the 3 in every crash test except for roof strength due to the shorter roof line and middle crossbar that splits the glass roof. Thanks to Jason Franciosa for providing more information and insight into the Austin-made Model Y and the potential of the new 4680 battery cells. Like Jason mentioned, Tesla may be software locking the range/performance of the Model Y's coming out of Texas at the moment and we could very well see significant improvements to charging speeds, performance, and/or range after further testing and data. Thanks to David Joelson for pointing out the headlights difference between the 3 and the Y. Depending on when and where you ordered, you may get the matrix LED headlights with the M3 LR while the MY LR will continue to come with the non-matrix LED headlights until if/when Tesla decides to add them. Much appreciated guys.

Thanks for the video. Crash test data also shows the Y is significantly safer than the 3. There are articles online to show this.

@@joesolo7719 Very niceee and awesome to hear Joe. My wife and I are debating whether to trade in her car for a Y or a Mustang Mach E now...
@joesolo77192 жыл бұрын
@@CasualTeslaFan is the Mach E marked up by dealerships? And on side note, I've seen several videos of Tesla quality being poor on delivery date. Cars coming dusty dirty, roof panel separating. It's not really giving me something to look forward to...
@CasualTeslaFan2 жыл бұрын
@@joesolo7719 Not sure but I wouldn't be surprised at all. We stopped by a local dealership a few days ago and we couldn't even test drive one since they had none in stock, so I'm guessing they're able to mark up a good amount with the demand. And for sure. I thought Tesla would have tightened up the quality checks by now, but a good friend of mine went to go pick up his Y a couple of weeks ago and the fenders were messed up along with shoddy paint corrections. They're still waiting on parts to fix it up before he can go pick it up

Thanks for the breakdown. I have M3 LR on order hold, but rethinking to order the Model Y instead. Both great choices So hard to figure out.

Another great vid. This helped me narrow down that the model 3 LR would be more beneficial to me when it comes to space (only me); and gas (currently spend $400+ a month, its $3.40 and I use 93 in nashville TN). My only concern is the ground clearance and our outrageous pot holes.

Thanks Carter. Awesome to hear and for sure. The pot holes around our area haven't been a problem... yet. Fingers crossed haha

@@CasualTeslaFan 😂 fingers crossed 🤞🏾 test drove the model Y today (model 3 sold before we got there) and i love the simplicity of the vehicle the braking of course will definitely take some getting use to. Going to relook at the RAV4 XSE, Venza (for the wife) and the Avalon Hybrid for me.

I have a ‘22 M3 LR in blue which suits my daily driving needs and then some. Sporty handling and more than enough power. For the longer trips we take here in CA our MDX has plenty of power when needed and an abundance of space for just my wife and I

Looks like the Y comes with old headlight unlike the 3 , I have been wondering why and would like to know if you have any details on that and when maybe expect the change to matrix . Thanks
@CasualTeslaFan2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for pointing out the headlights difference David. I thought M3s stopped being delivered with the new headlights past April 2022 due to supply chain issues and/or Tesla reserving the new headlights for their performance versions, but it does look like some M3s are still being delivered with the new headlights. Will definitely add that to the pinned comment and credit you. And great question. Not sure when Tesla will add the new headlights to the MY LR, but if I had to guess, it would probably be 2023 or later if they do because of all the demand and Giga Texas not being fully up and running yet

@@CasualTeslaFan thanks for the reply man awesome vids . Ordered a Y LR due for Jan 2023 , if they dont officially announce by Jan that matrix is 100% in MY LR , dose it make senses to push off delivery just for that , dose the headlights really matter in difference ? that’s the only thing I can’t wrap my head around . Ether way if you find any info about that in long run would love to hear , thanks again !
@CasualTeslaFan2 жыл бұрын
@@djcool559 Thanks and for sure anytime. Happy to help. And hmm even though the new matrix headlights are better and safer especially at night and in bad weather, the old headlights are still really good. I don't think it's worth pushing off delivery just for the headlights unless you do a lot of driving at night. But yeah will definitely keep an eye for any news and hopefully they do decide to add the new headlights to the Y LR by 2023

The Austin Made Model Y may have more battery capacity than Tesla is leading on at the moment. Unspoken Reviews weighed his and it came in within 7 pounds of the Model Y LR. We know the Austin built Model Y should weigh less if it has less batteries, so there is a good chance it's software locked at the moment. We also don't know what the full capabilities of the new Cells will be as it's very likely Tesla is slowly pushing them further as they are testing them in the real world. I suspect those vehicles will get some nice improvements to charge speeds, performance, and possibly a range unlock over time as Tesla pushes the batteries further.
