The air density difference between 0° and 20°C in itself is already 7.4% (1.293kg/m³ vs 1.204kg/m³, without even factoring in higher humidity) and that goes into air resistance as a linear factor! So the heat efficiency here is mighty impressive!
@wermagst

Higher humidity actually lowers air density. H2O Molecules are lighter than O2 or N2.
@NO3V

@@wermagst Yes, and warmer air might very well have higher humidity than colder air depending on conditions. 100% humidity at 0°C is just 4.89g/m³ [water per air] while it is 17.3 at 20°C.

You are absolutely right: autopilot is always nice, but it really shines in bad weather and / or night times. I used to hate driving long distances in this type of conditions. With autopilot, it is no big deal because it is very confident regardless. I just set the speed a bit lower, which honestly only amounts to a few minutes over the course of a two-hour drive.

@@Advcrazy I think it needs some context. I drive on a highway that was wiped out by a massive storm on the Canadian west coast often. When it snows, you have to be alert and slow down. Snow conditions is always require a reduction of reaction time, if you dial down the speed limit of Autopilot, use what Autopilot is designed for and have snow tires you will be fine. There is a running joke of frequent users on the Coquihalla highway, it is usually the people who speedon the passing line driving premium SUVs with all season tires, that end up pirouetting into the ditch a few KMs down the road.

I'm not sure if the autopilot in this car is exactly the same as in 2019 Model S, but I had a chance to test that for three weeks and didn't like most of the stuff compared to e-Niro. Of course, there might be some things that would be better by diving in to settings but I didn't like the driving experience at all. Here's the cons and pros from my perspective: - 2019 Model S doesn't read speed signs. This is the biggest flaw because cruise control is not automatic. Cruise control does what it thinks and is very often wrong. For example when joining from 80 road to 80 road, Tesla thinks its 120 km/h. That's bad. Then there's many places where suddenly 80 road turns into 60 road without any reason and the car brakes. (e-Niro reads speed signs but doesn't change cc automatically) - Phantom braking a LOT. It might be a result of a recent updgrade but damn, there was a whole lot of bad braking on the roads I drove in Finland. These roads were totally normal big roads. - Cancelling the autopilot from the steering wheel is hard. You have to go to gym for that :) Canceling it from the lever is not handy in my opinion because it cancels the cc also. There are many cases in my area where you need to cancel the autopilot because the car doesn't know what to do. - Autopilot is getting cautious when someone is joining the big road from the right. Why? While I drive the big road and someone joins, I should not need to give space for the car by braking. Frustrating. There are few good things though (compared to e-Niro): + Automatic lane change is nice + It's better on bad conditions as you said in the video. e-Niro cancels the "autopilot" when it's dark and very wet. + It's a bit better on hard turns

In Germany it is no problem to pre condition the LFP pack before Supercharging. In order to heat the battery the rear rotor must be hot so the heat can be passed into the battery. Some minutes with 180-200 km/h and you drive down your SoC and have warm battery. Perfect conditions for supercharging.

Jeez. My China LFP M3 does no where near the ranges you get. It also does not have the heat pump. At the moment here in the Netherlands it is about 5-9 degrees Celsius and I am lucky to get 200km of range out of the battery. Also I noticed that the car now has a significant lower wltp range stated. That is about 97% of what it was during the summer. And then I also noticed something strange with the New Tesla app. It is set to charge to 100%. But when I move the slider it will not go back to the range at 100%. What I mean is that when it states that it will charge to 100% the range is 397km. Now when charging I then move the slider in the app down and back to 100% the range changes to a different number. Sometimes lower, sometimes higher. Could it be I have found a bug in the app? Anybody else that has this problem? Love the videos by the way.

Hey just remember to keep in mind this was without the aero covered wheels. I’ve seen that aero covers help as much as 10% range at highway speeds or sometimes as low as 3-5%, but even then they still make a pretty significant different when doing long range tests. I just wonder if the range loss would’ve been the same here had the OEM wheels and aero covers been kept on.

Sad that you didnt do a full 90 run (or 120) The leftover heat in the pack basically negated a good chunk of the heating requirement (dropped the pack by 7°c in just those 60km) I think average consumption would go up noticeably if tested for the full run. Then again the car will still do just fine and you have a family to return to so its more than understandable that you dont want to spend 8h+ driving for just those 2 datapoint-improvements ^^

Agree; I wouldn’t ever bother knowing about my fossil fuel consumption, other than an occasional quick and simple mental math check when I filled up. The cars I drove didn’t have the consumption data available like my 2021 M3 SR+ does. I think that’s one reason most ICE drivers don’t “consider” their fuel consumption (though I know a minority were just as obsessive). Another reason was the over abundance of fueling stations. What’s to worry about if you’re using more fuel when it’s cold? Just stop and fill ‘er up!

If you know how to deal with it, it's no problem at all. Every time you navigate to a supercharger and the trip last longer than 30 minutes, the car has enough time to pre-heat the battery. I'm still happy with my SR+. But to be fair, I have not experience strong winter conditions so far. Only around 0° C.

That's just because the battery was not preheated, and because of the battery heat scavenging to heat the interior. Tesla should add a forced preheating when going to a non-tesla fast charger.

R3 are known in the Norwegian community to be too soft on dry tarmac. And on wet tarmac at higher speeds, they are not so stable. The guys who developed Frigus knew this. No, as he measures the range based on the energy consumption from one point and back to the same starting point. Under the assumption that the wind conditions doesn't change much during the test which is a fair assumption due to the duration of the test.

TBH I think that Tesla should make Lithium Ion batteries charge to 120% at max and their current 80% or so should become the new normal 100%. This because the average soccermum doesn't understand why a "worser" battery can charge to 100% all the time without damaging it, while the more expensive battery with more range and such should only be charged to 80% all the time (or maybe 90%), but preferebly never, or allmost never to 100%. Also, people with 2 Tesla's, one with the one type of battery and the other with the other type of battery, might confuse people every once in a while which could to bad situations. Also, people that don't know anything about batteries at all might realise earlier that it's not normal to charge above 100%, which is normally a warning that they are doing something they shouldn't do.

I disagree about auto-steer. Tesla has the most annoying system of them all. You steer a bit by yourself and the thing disengages and you need to activate it again, and again, and again. Other manufacturers keep the auto-steer activated for the whole cruise even when you steer/overtake by yourself. Also the Autopilot has a lot of phantom breaking, especially when a truck is next to it. The activation of the system on a Tesla is easy but it is not cooperating with the driver. In my experience the best auto-steer has Audi, Porsche, Ford (Mustang Mach-e), Honda-e and surprisingly the FIAT 500e.

Depends. If you don't have a home with a charger, or easy access to a charger, Hybrids are good alternatives. The recent videos of Dundee Scotland's electric hubs, give people who live in apartments options. I do 250 km a week (on the week that I work at head office). Depends on how much driving you do. Past 5 years I try to combine trips just to save gas. 30% reduction in range means you get around 300 km. So unless you are doing nothing but long haul driving, I think your points are over-dramatic.
