You would have gotten a quicker charge from the none Tesla chargers if you had borrowed a CHAdeMO adaptor. See part two of my Land's End to John O' Groats video for more info.

+UltimateRoadtrips It's a shame you had to charge at those dodgy sites though. Tesla WOULD have built their superchargers on motorway services like they do abroad, but they had that legal dispute with Ecotricity. But now this legal battle is over, and when they unveiled the Model 3 last week, they pledged to double the number of superchargers by year's end. No doubt we'll start seeing chargers at motorway services.

Great video, but please remember charging ettiquite at Rapid Chargers - 30mins max. If you need to charge for longer, please wait in your car while charging, and move if someone else comes to charge. Thanks.
@ultimateroadtrips8 жыл бұрын
+Craig Brown point taken, but as you could see from the video, Pitlochry was silent at that time on a Saturday evening and there was a second charger available for use. Unfortunately without a CHAdeMO adapter supplied with our rental car, 30 minutes gets you very minimal charge, and Whilst 30 minutes may be seen as etiquette for using these chargers, that was not a limit set by the charger. As soon as Tesla have improved their supercharger and destination charging coverage things will be a lot easier :) Glad you enjoyed the video! P90D (with Ludicrous) video in the pipeline...

50 Mile range and 7 miles to the supercharger is "cutting it quite fine"? . Pah. I drove an iMiev up to scotland (from London) and that thing gets 60 miles on a motorway tops! (I do not recommend this ;-P)

+Ross Mawdsley haha! Good work! Strange feeling to be only a handful of miles from being empty, and with far fewer practical options for charging on a long journey. It will only get better though as the Supercharging network improves 👍

+Ragnar Jóhannesson actually it was just the PJ810, but it's got a great lens. Nice and sharp. Shot at 50fps. Other camera was a GoPro Hero 3+ Black, also at 50fps and connected to an external Sony ECM-CS3. Thanks for your interest! Further videos to come soon featuring the DJI Osmo!

So does it mean twice fast charging? it's not bad actually
@ultimateroadtrips8 жыл бұрын
As you’ll see in the video, the home charging (off UK mains) and the Evolt and Ecotricity charging stations were running at ~240V with the supercharger running at a much higher ~386v. The amperage varies wildly though and from my understanding this affects the charging speed the most.

guys (& amy) well done with your trip and thanks for the video. i just wanted to point something out to you (perhaps you could let others know) that has quite a big impact on those of us who drive electric vehicles all the time. when stopping a charging session at an ecotricity charger it is important that you stop the session using the card at the charging station. (a couple of times in the video you stopped it using the 'stop charging' button on the tesla screen. that can leave the next user with an 'out of action' charge station. clearly, you weren't to know this.) there are helpful short videos showing people how to charge and end charges here: www.ecotricity.co.uk/for-the-road/charge-your-vehicle if people prefer to read the text - the important bits are at the end for each particular charging standard. i hope you have many more road trips in electric cars - particularly the tesla. we love road trips in ours. last month we took ours up to the arctic circle in norway, supercharging all the way and made a short 5 minute video of the trip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIHSi2qapJecjLM
@ultimateroadtrips8 жыл бұрын
+brian gilmore very useful information! I recall pressing stop on a non-Tesla charger on more than one occasion, but admittedly probably not every time, or on camera. With a few more Tesla superchargers we'd likely have never used anything else, and I guess the simplified charging method most Tesla owners would become used to might lead many to misuse the other chargers. Glad you enjoyed the video and we look forward to our next Tesla experience. We also have an i3 lined up for a test too, so that will be interesting.
@briangilmorevideo8 жыл бұрын
+UltimateRoadtrips i'm pretty sure that most tesla owners know this by now. those who rent a tesla might not know. like you say - superchargers are the way to go. they're so easy to use, fast and reliable. you picked one of the few areas where there's a bit of a gap in the supercharger network for your road trip. europe has had superchargers being rolled out for a little bit longer than in the uk and there they're pretty much every 100 miles. that's brilliant and will soon be the case here. that, coupled with (free) tesla destination charging (slower chargers for longer stops e.g at hotels, shopping centres etc.) which is just about to start being rolled out in the uk will make tesla road trips even easier.
@simonbruce828 жыл бұрын
+brian gilmore most certainly the way forward! Perhaps Tesla should incorporate a message that prompts users to stop charging at the charger when it detects a non-supercharger connection? Could be a nice touch. Love the ease of use and user friendly nature of the Model S!
@briangilmorevideo8 жыл бұрын
+Simon Bruce nice idea - ecotricity chargers (& ikea - same unit types) are the ones where it can cause an issue. it doesn't cause a problem on other chargers that the model s can use (although it's still best at those to use the card at the charger to end the session.) this actually points to another of the great joys of owning and driving a model s - it can be charged on pretty much any charger - 3 pin plug, type 2, chademo and, obviously, superchargers. offers great peace of mind.

@ultimateroadtrips8 жыл бұрын
+Tim Austin at the time, the tesla was all new to us and with supercharger stations few and far between in the uk, and not knowing the accuracy of the range, we played safe. Turns out the Tesla is incredibly accurate and plays safe with its suggested stops
@timaustin20008 жыл бұрын
UltimateRoadtrips I understand that but if the car is saying 50 miles and you know it's 7, the reaction was surely a bit much - you'd have to have a pretty heavy foot to drop 43 miles. Just seemed a bit of an excessive remark to me. Anyway, I'm glad that you're enjoying the car.

do the doors lock automatically when the car starts moving? so that noone outside could open the doors? i'm really concerned about personal safety. so is this i asked possible?

+myselfmiky door handles automatically retract and lock when the vehicle is in motion meaning there isn't even a handle for someone to even attempt to grab!
@myselfmiky8 жыл бұрын
+UltimateRoadtrips thank you. and what about when the car is stopped? after entering the car for example. is it possible to lock so that is someone pushed the handles the doors won't open? thank you for your previous answer.
@myselfmiky8 жыл бұрын
+myselfmiky I meant *if someone
@ultimateroadtrips8 жыл бұрын
+myselfmiky from memory it works the same as most cars. Once the handles have retracted it will either require a passenger in the car to open the door, or for the unlock button on the touchscreen to be pressed. The handles also retract after the driver has entered the car, even if you haven't moved. This is on a time delay, but I can't remember how long that was. Unfortunately as the car was only a rental, I can only go from memory.
