Well this shows that in the wet especially it is all about power delivery, and internal combustion really comes from the age of fire. I guess the Tesla overheated it's batteries so it became slower on the back to back dragraces. There is no mention of that on the video though. Also the Tesla makes closer to 500hp and as it is battery limited not motor limited. Finally of course the outcome would have been quite a bit different with a 90D.

my youngest brother owns the same P85D model and not too long ago we took it to a local track where they run 1/8 mile races. He ran it four times and won all four times by a good margin, we then took it to a track that did the 1/4 mile races and it ran three times winning twice by less than a car length. They can beat most cars in a race if it's around 1/8 long but when you get to the 1/4 mile then it becomes a bit more evenly challenged. The Tesla to me is the Cheetah of the big cat world where it's only very very fast in a short distance and the others tend to catch up on the long runs, well that's if the other car has the HP to catch up. It's still a great comfy ride and i love the autopilot but only if it's used correctly and not when you wanna take a freaking nap or do some other shit like i have seen people do. I haven't seen anyone taking a nap on the fwy while the car is driving the route yet

I constantly wonder how much Tesla pays these car reviewers not to test their cars from rolling starts or beyond about 115mph. Because in either case, a Tesla gets absolutely cream-sandwiched against just about any decent piston car. Other than traction and torque off the line, there is nothing in it for the Tesla. As soon as it gets past about 90mph it completely roaches out and has nothing left. Its an amazing 0-60 or 1/4 mi car, but for goodness sakes if that's all you have to hang your hat on, there's not much meat on the bone. Lets not even get into the vast natural resources and disposal considerations that Tesla cars burden us with. They are many things, but environmentally friendly is not one of them.

You do know, the car does not have 690ps or whatever. It was a huge mislead stat they tried to get journalists to help promote for them. They've corrected it on their website and even the ludicrous P90D only has 530hp or so... that being said, electric motors are a lot more efficient especially without any gearboxes, so that's nearly 530hp directly to the wheels, where as IC cars have a 15% loss. Still doesn't give Tesla a free card to bullshit their customers to think they have 700hp.

Excellent video. Great presenters. The thing about McLarens though is their mindbending refusal to stop accelerating, which is why you can get a 650S, 675LT and of course a P1 up to 200mph on a runway. These 1/4 mile drag races don't show what would have happened in the next 2-3 seconds for each car, which would have been illuminating. The Tesla is deeply impressive, but I wish these races were longer to see the full lung capacity of the McLaren.

Arman Talwar so what? Its not about whether a car is still available from a manufacturer. Why drone on about using a P90D when what they had to use was the P85D? If you want to use the best Tesla produces then why not use the best Mclaren produces? Heck, or even a 675LT. The result was skewed in favour of the Tesla because of the damp conditions, so it wasn't a conclusive result, just fun. I'd bet that a 650S in the dry using launch control would more or less match the P85D off the line and then pull away. This race was however, an excellent demonstration of the Tesla's AWD traction and immediate torque. In this instance a £50k Nissan GTR would have launched faster than the 650S and thats a "4 seater" (yes I know you need to be a small child or midget to sit in the back without needing to see a chiropractor afterwards).

Had the surface been dry 650S would've CLEANED the Tesla

So let me get this straight. The guy driving the TESLA gets the jump every time. The track is wet and the McLaren still WON two times in spite of a crappy driver. Seems pretty simple to me. How about putting the correct title to this.

No question electric power is the future for cars. The combustion engine has had 100+ years of development in cars. Compare that to how far electric cars have come in such a short time. The advancement of technology will only propel the electric car further and further and leave the gas car in the dust.

Can someone point me to video where there is proper LAP time with P85/90D?
@eugenehvorostyanov24098 жыл бұрын
It's impossible, because there isn't one. Motor trend tried and failed because Tesla was overheating after just half a lap or so. They even bought a lot of ice in attempt to cool down tesla, fail again.

They can't maintain charge for very long at full power. So while the S can "beat" many sports cars off the line, the weight and drain won't keep it ahead for very long.

Only won because the top speed of the Tesla is 155 and added enough distance for the McLaren to catch up.both impressive cars, but the race was designed to cause the Tesla to lose.

why would you race in the wet?? awd vs 2wd the 650s is a 2.9sec to 60mph.

Tesla P90d (Ludicrous Mode) vs Porsche 911 Turbo S.
@akieabdul8 жыл бұрын
How does the tesla launch with no wheel spin with so much torque??? I understand that it's all wheel drive but even the 911 turbo s which has the engine sitting on the rear wheels has slight wheel spin in the dry. This tesla has none even in the damp! How is this possible?
@petea73238 жыл бұрын
Why oh why are they doing this in the wet? This isn't about engine power it's about traction. On a good road the mclaren would wipe the floor with it. It's half the weight. Battery cars are good but it weighs as much as a bus.

Why not P90D Ludicrous? Scared???
@carlosmalave5408 жыл бұрын
Same McLaren, but this time a 2017 Tesla Model S P90D with Ludricous mode. Please make it happen. In all fairness. Petrol-heads are rejoicing now, a new race will prove otherwise.
