You free to list the faults Tesla has with cars atm that roll from the production line. Window seal problems happen, even on mercerdes S class and Audi A8. The EQS atm have also issue in production and it's mercedes top of the line luxery model (how i know, i program some of the production process at the final assembly line in Daimler). The Mercedes EQS has been recalled for Infotainment glitches, the audi RS E-tron has been recalled for suspenstion issue. Than I will take a Tesla any day with a panel having 0.1 inch more gap. So it's easy to point fingers, but Tesla is not unique in having issue during production process. Working on assembly lines for different brands, you realize that no car is perfect and they all using shenanigans to hide the problems most of the time, but a normal person don't see those issues. I would advise to check a recall list for like Mercedes S lines, audi A8 etc, you will be amazed what kind of issues the top of the line models have.

The boot space numbers should be taken with a grain of salt since Tesla uses the (SAE) standard that measures volume all the way to the headliner while the German, Korean and Japanese brands use a different standard (VAD) which measures volume up the top of the rear seat. Model Y boot for example is about the size of the one in the VW ID4 although official numbers seem to suggest a 300L difference.

I bought one as well. Mat's assessment is spot on. It's far from perfect, but its hella fun! A lot of my favorite cars over the years have been like that - some were HORRIBLE cars in the conventional sense, but I loved them to bits nonetheless. And Mat didn't get a chance to try out the newly release Track Mode, which is a nice update in several ways - from stiffer suspension that you get in Sport mode to much stronger regen braking (which helps, but doesn't cure, the weak braking performance). The automatic lock/unlock behavior is configurable so you can make it behave like you want. There is a tradeoff between how quickly it locks behind you and such and how twitchy it is. That's 100% adjustable. And the horn also has a secret - you don't have to hit the button perfectly. You can just cover that entire section of the wheel with your palm and that, too, activates the horn - its much easier if you need a kind of a panic honk. Regarding the 0-60 performance: Mat was on smooth blacktop roads with some obvious sand or dirt - yeah, 2.40 seconds at 50% charge is about right. But put the car on concrete like the highway he was on, with 70% charge or more and you'll get 2.1, sometimes even 2.0x seconds without subtracting rollout. Yep - on concrete roads I can get 2.08 seconds of TRUE, honest, no rollout games 0-60 time. But the best part of acceleration is ABOVE 60mph/100kph - this car's acceleration doesn't fall off after 60 like the Taycan does when it shifts into 2nd gear. Nope - the Plaid pulls and pulls and pulls and pulls. You don't really notice the relentless acceleration falling off until 110, maybe 120mph. And even then its only just. It will outrun just about anything all the way to the now improved 175mph limit. Once the carbon ceramic brakes are available this will have several benefits. First and most obvious, it will cure the braking issues 100%. The new rotors are 420mm which is on par with the Taycan Turbo S (which is several hundred pounds heavier). But it will also reduce unsprung mass - improving handling. Last - it will lower the rotational inertia of the wheels, which will slightly further improve acceleration. Last thoughts: The charging performance of Plaid beats everything out there, hands down. It may not be the peak KW best, but in terms of range added per unit time, its tits. And the overall range of Plaid at 350-400 miles (even though we ALL know Tesla overstates this), is still far better than you'll get in many EVs. Yes the Lucid Air is better - but its heavier, less sporty, and almost none exist right now. Plus there are far fewer places to charge it. The EQS is also super nice with its 108kwhr pack - I just don't like the look of it and its not nearly as sporty. Personally I think once the new brakes are out this will round out this car and make it super nice.

Face it, the vast majority of Tesla Plaid buyers get them for one thing....they are the fastest cars on the planet (a caveat here that I should mention is other European cars that come fairly close to the Plaids performance usually cost at least double the Plaids base price, and the Rimac Nevera, which is about a half second faster than a Plaid, last week was certified legal for all countries safety requirements, will only have 150 models made and costs $2,400,000 before options!) that you can buy from a manufacturer that you don't have to spend an additional $20-$30K to modify them to still be slower than a S Plaid. AND for you folks that agree and have interest in speed rather than how far we can go on a charge, or how much your Teslas will be worth 3 years from now, or the minor fit and finish issues that are always mentioned by Tesla haters, and are usually taken care by Tesla when mentioned when you buy this Model, this will be right up your alley! The TOP LINE Lucid Air offers 1,111HP, while the Plaid offers a supposedly 1,020HP, BUT there is a KZbin video that has a Plaid on a 4 hub dyno that develops 1,101HP STOCK from the factory. The Plaid also weighs approximately 400 pounds LESS than the Lucid Air, and averages between $20,000 to $30,000 Less than the advertised $179,900 than the Lucid costs DEPENDING ON OPTIONS CHOSEN for each car. Last month a Tesla Model S Plaid in Napierville, Quebec set the new record for the fastest quarter-mile time for the electric sedan at 8.83 seconds and 161mph. The Model S had a stripped out interior for weight savings, as well as SV104 wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson drag radials at the rear and Michelin PS4 tires on the front. Not content with the blistering fast time, the same Model S Plaid has set a new record this week. At the same track in Napierville the Model S crossed the line in just 8.77 seconds at 162.55mph (261.60km/h), a 5.67 second 1/8 mile time and an outstanding 125MPH to 162MPH time in 3.1 seconds!!! As for what changed that allowed the car to go faster this time the owner, TMC user mulot30th, said there was an additional 60lb weight saving over the previous attempt due to someone else being behind the wheel on the run. Additionally he said there a slight change to the suspension. “Main change is suspension geometry change (slight) which reduce “tire drag” a little bit at least that is what I intended to do with that and have worked,” he said. Interestingly, the top speed at the end of his quarter mile run of 162.55mph is inches away from the electronically limited top speed (when not in Track Mode) of 163mph. As first told earlier this week, Quebec-based Ingenext was able to hack their way past that limiter and reached a top speed of 216mph (347km/h). As for this Model S Plaid, the owner says that while the car does not feel like it is slowing down when crossing the line, he feels there is not much room to improve beyond 8.77s with the current setup, but a BIG brake option available from Tesla and several other Tesla specific after market parts dealers at a much reduced price, and TOP OF THE LINE HIGH SPEED RATED STREET TIRES should also be used! You can check out the record runs both of TOP SPEED and FASTEST QUARTER MILE time on several KZbin 9

Ive been daily driving one for a couple of months. It did take me a while to adapt - but I have found that fatigue is actually not a big deal. The yoke is a bit wider and allows you a VERY comfortable hand resting position with elbows easily on left and right armrest areas and is actually more comfortable than a round wheel because you have to stretch further to do that with a round wheel. Overall yes - its a gimmick. Sort of. There are ways that it is, but also ways in which it is very functional. I've gotten very skilled at parking, 3 point turns, and much more. My take is that everyone is used to decades of memory using ONLY round wheels - so it absolutely takes longer to adapt. But it is fairly easy to use after a longer-than-normal adaptation period.

I had a Plaid since September and yoke is great. Getting use to the buttons is the part that takes the most. But after a few weeks muscle memory kicks in and you are good to go. No complains here. Love the yoke.

Even if it is not a new car, I have to say that this is one of the most beautiful EVs ever, especially the frontend design with this white and black rims… That yoke to me is a joke btw. Mercedes EQ department should learn how to design an EV

Hard to believe the basic design is more than a decade old and the facelift is nearing 5. Very pretty car indeed. The whole Mercedes design language has been horrible as of late, the only good looking car they make these days is the GT and the new SL.

If I had the money, I would get this insantly and change the steering wheel. It would be a perfect all around car, I think anyway. Morning commute in a preheated, silent car and then on the way back go the windy road route, get home, plug in and next day you and the car are ready to do it all over again. What a machine!

Too bad that Matt didn't get to try track mode. That makes the car way stiff with zero body roll and torque vectoring. It feels amazing and even the pedal feel is better with that update.

The yolk is actually really easy to use, it just requires a different approach. It certainly improves the view of the instruments regardless of the height of the driver. Once they go to full self driving it’ll be even less of an issue. The car is way outside of my pay grade, but I’m glad it exists. No other 5 seater comes close, to be fair virtually no super cars do either. Very nice

Except insane power it seems very user experience unfriendly car. Touch sensitive indicators? and other basic things which seems just better when there is switch for them, especially if you are turning your stearing wheel and you need for example switch indicator. I think Matt is playing down those things because he bought it himself :D
