they can send rockets to space, launch sate to orbit... but can't even program a wiper to wipe properly... I've been complaining for years and still the auto wipe sucks. it goes ape shit when its on auto all the time.

Thanks for the pro tip on wipers. I have no problems only using voice commands to control my wipers. Use this only when the weather is bad or to clear dust on the windshield. Not worried about my voice commends cutting off my radio momentarily. I don't have FSD like this other commenter mentioned, but is nice to know how wipers work with other features. Take care and happy holidays.

Good stuff. I don't think many Tesla owners are aware that you can manually adjust wipers without touching the screen, and without using your voice. My current frustration is that when FSD is enabled, wipers are always automatic, regardless of the setting you choose. This sometimes leads to so much dry wiping that I'd rather just drive myself.

I agree with you. FSD uses the cameras for everything, so they need to stay clear of rain and debris. It’s a good thing that they automatically turn the wipers to auto when auto pilot/ FSD is enabled. It’s only a problem because of the issue you described. They just need to fix that deep rain neural network so it doesn’t have any false wipes. I actually have more issues with it not sensing the rain. It’s been raining all week, set to auto, and I still have to manually swipe it. 🤦🏻‍♂️

@@BecauseTesla I find when it starts raining I press the button long before it decides to start wiping, but then it seems to figure it out and do well after that first wipe. My car is 5 years old, so the glass the cameras are looking through could use a good cleaning. But it used to work fine despite that, so I don’t think cleaning the glass would help, and it’s a bit involved, so I’m not eager to go through the hassle.

I've never even sat in a tesla before i took delivery of my highland so I don't have anything to compare to but the auto setting works fine in my car. If I feel like I need another extra wipe I push down on the button on the steering wheel. Maybe the deep rain works but is missing some hardware in the camera or something.

Thanks for sharing. We don’t have the highland over here yet to test, so hopefully updated hardware works better. 😎

They suck as does the fact the music starts every time I open a door.
@BecauseTesla

My workaround for that is to pause the music with the left scroll wheel before I exit the car. It usually stays paused when I re-enter the car later. Again, not perfect, but it works.

No stalks now…..so we will be trading into a BYD Seal which not only has stalks, they are also on the correct side.

Who determines the correct side ?

@@MelvinMyla The driver’s door is the logical side leaving the centre of the car more useable…….not bothering to think about it is a weakness others can exploit.

@@MelvinMyla Yeah, that is a great question. There are no good or correct sides to me - It is based on what country you reside in - but who really cares - everyone else is driving the same way. The proper driving side in the US is on the Left for me. Another mood point this original commenter brings up is getting a BYD. Well - not available in the US and who cares if you don't like the No stalks.

This glosses over a major point: when you are on Autopilot, it will NOT ALLOW YOU to switch off of "Auto" wipers. This means you either have to accept the poor windshield wiping, or take over steering. That can be super annoying when you are on highway road trips, where, of course, you'd want to be on Autopilot. BTW, it is the same with the auto high beams. I don't know why Tesla made this decision when I'm sure the Tesla executives are very much aware of how inaccurate it is. Seems to me they should let the driver enforce wipers & high beams when using autosteer.
@BecauseTesla

I understand why Tesla did this. It’s because they moved away from using sensors and radar so they can only use vision from the cameras. We as humans use our vision to do this manually. If the car is using the camera on the windshield, it has to remain clear of debris and rain, so the wipers automatically turn to auto. I imagine the high beams are the same so the camera can see as far ahead as possible. So yes, I understand why they did it. It wouldn’t be a bad thing if it worked properly. They need to work more on that deep rain neural network. I hear that there should be some improvement in the holiday software update. I’ll be testing that for sure!

@@BecauseTesla Yeah I mean if it needs to run the wipers b/c the camera is blocked, fine. But, as you mentioned in this video, the wipers will often times not activate even with substantial rain. Ironically I think the cameras would be blocked less & the car would be safer if Tesla allowed the driver to overrule it. For the high beams, there have been scenarios where I am driving my Model Y on the interstate at night, and my car REFUSES to turn on high beams. I manually take over steering to turn them on because I am not comfortable with the fact that the car can only see ~15' ahead. I get that it can work in principal, but it doesn't. They should give us full control until they figure it out.

what a pain in the ass. What was so wrong with using a normal stalk and actual rain sensor??

Yes very annoying All modern cars can change the sensitivity of intermittent windscreen wipers ...but not Tesla 🙄
