Finally, a truck that can keep up with traffic. It’s going to be great not being stuck behind big trucks.

Or you know, you could built anything else besides roads to get around and stop building out all these terrible suburbs. Where I live I don't have to get in my car for 90% of the things you do on a daily base. Americans have to realise there are other ways to get around. But it's hard to believe of course when your country is only building massive concrete highways through towns.

What's really interesting is at 0:25 when you see the distance between the Tesla Semi and the nearest car behind it. With a regular Semi most cars would follow real close to make the turn safely, then quickly cut inside and get out in front. Not happening here!

Probably not, definitely has some sort of load. With a full load, 0-60 takes 20 seconds so it would definitely accelerate slower than that.

So much torque!! How many Lb-ft do they make?!
@nonconsensualopinion3 жыл бұрын
I believe it uses 4 model 3 motors each making around 500 lb-ft at the shaft. Don't know what the gearbox ratio is on the truck. Single speed, no transmission.

@@lloydie6330 that’s less than a Hellcat let alone a fucking semi, if you’re talking HP, that would make sense. Semis push over 1,000 ft-lbs of torque. That truck has 4 motors, I believe they’re pulled from a Model 3, which had like 300hp and over 500 ft-lbs of torque. So 4X300, you’re looking at 1200hp, and 4X500, you’re at over 2000 ft-lbs of torque. Now that’s power and torque from the motor, which gearing can and will affect torque outputs from the final drive, let’s say you have a 1:1 final drive, 300 ft-lbs of torque is 300 ft-lbs, if you if you have a 4:1 ratio, the torque will be multiplied at the cost of speed. This is why lower gears get you off the line faster because more torque.

With a range of less than 400 miles you won't be seeing these replace diesel trucks any time soon. Local and instate deliveries only, no OTR.
@kiefox7162 Жыл бұрын
500 mile range on this.
@jeffscott3160 Жыл бұрын
@@kiefox7162 Says who? You? The manufacturer? Real world testing has proven the manufacturers are greatly overestimating the mileage numbers they advertise. Not just trucks but ALL EV's across the board only get 76% of their advertised range in REAL world conditions. Even if it was 500 miles it is still not enough for the OTR trucking community. A few quick searches on that new fancy thing they call the internet just might educate you on things you obviously know little about.
@Bluecast The problem with that argument is that these are manufacturer claimed distances and real world tests have shown that EV's get less than 70% of that advertised range and less than half that at the 40 ton rated weight capacity. The other major issue is with battery life as these trucks batteries are going through severe duty rating while hauling capacity loads and will cut battery life severely over what is traditionally expected from the EV's we use today. A model 3 tesla battery will set you back 15K to have it replaced and it's estimated to need replacing every 8 years or so. For the semi's I would expect less than half that with the duty cycle they will go through at a cost of 70-120K for replacement. All of a sudden that fuel savings isn't what you thought it would be.
