Tesla Styled Headunit Install for Evo X!!!

Hey what's up everyone welcome back to the channel! This week I installed a tesla styled head unit into the Evo X! The screen itself is a 12.1 inch android operated monstrous screen. I wanted to update the interior of the car and this gigantic head unit definitely does that. I have had the other 7 inch head unit in the car a while back and this one is definitely better overall with its functionality and speed. ILL wire is prolly for the headlight switch to dim the head unit like factory when the headlights are switched on

Ahh that makes sense! I haven't really touched that wired and the auto dim does work when headlights are turned on so maybe there's a step up to the dimming haha 😄👍

Were you able to do anything with the sound system? My OEM radio was 5x better. Can’t figure out how to get the Tesla screen one to output the same.

I've been playing around with the settings for this tesla styled one but I can't seem to get the settings right, I'll probably buy an aftermarket sound system so that I can adjust the settings a bit more but I don't think this unit is very stock friendly. On a sidenote when I lower the volume to 1 its actually a lot louder than it should be I think, I'll let you know if I find anything out!

Would you buy again if you got a 2nd evo? I have a hard time getting over the slow boot.

Truthfully that's a big no from me hahaha. It is pretty slow overall and I think the Bluetooth has really big connection problems(might be my torque app though). I would probably try to go custom and maybe put a tablet or an iPad. The other huge problem that I noticed is that while using the GPS if you have your sunglasses on on a sunny day you won't be able to see the screen. The lcd screen that they used for the unit seems very cheap.

Does it have the maintenance mile function? Does it let you control the sound. Example live stage rock

I don't think it has the maintenance mile function but you can set that up in the screen behind the steering wheel where the odometer is. You can control the sound but its not thaaaaaat detailed. A bit more than strock. 👍

Hi. This looks very nice. I just get mine but it's smaller, it's the standard 10.1" android. But how did you make your steering wheel buttons working normally? Mine doesn't work properly after I install the radio.

Thank you, If you go into the settings on the android you should be able to set the buttons one at a time. For me I press for example the volume up button on the android then match it with the volume up on the steering wheel until they are synced. Hopefully that helps! 😃👍

@@JeffSongCars Thanks for the quick response! The seller told me, that I have to connect Key line to the steering wheel. He told me it's under my seat but I'm not sure. Right now, when I try to put volume up it's on reverse, if I try to put volume down it's mute...I will keep trying. Thank you one more time!

I had the same headunit before the 10.1" I think it should be the same as mine and there should be the option of changing the steering wheel buttons in the android options or if you see the sprocket in the android menus for the operating system skin it should be in there 👍

Hey man I'm having some trouble getting the cheapo Bluetooth odbII readers to connect though the head units Bluetooth app. Did the overpriced ODBlink MX+ you have linked actually connect to the unit ?

Yea the that overpriced unit actually works better than the $15 one that I bought earlier, it’s still not perfect though and I think it’s the head unit itself. When I start up the car and go to the torque app within a minute or two the obdlink always connects but it’s 50/50 when I try to connect it while driving. Some people were having problems with getting to the Bluetooth connection settings for the unit and the best way I found to do it was press the green call button then connect the Bluetooth device from the options within the green call button. Hopefully that helps! 👍🏼

And I guess you can do split screen but I haven't been using the screen to the full potential. I'll update you once I'm able to get the full potential!

Jev Campbell the product in the link you sent is a older 2G RAM version, in this video, it is the latest version with android 9.0, 4G RAM, suggest you buy the 4G RAM version.

It’s holding up alright but there have been problems with the Bluetooth pairing lately. If I could go back I think making a custom head unit with an iPad/tablet or something might have been better because during the day you can’t really see the screen especially if you have sunglasses on. If you do plan on getting this make sure to get the one with the most ram and the most recent one, it definitely is better than the other smaller screen android head unit option ones 👍🏼

Try checking the wires on the back of the headunit, there may have been a wire that got loose. Also download another media player like VLC to your headunit, it might work better that way. 👍

Is it the same headunit that I installed? Or is it some other headunit? If it has all the ins and outs for the plugs that line up with the factory unit you should be good but you may need to find a custom housing that fits the headunit if it's another aftermarket one(single din or double din) 👍

If you’re talking about the one on the bottom at the 3:50min mark that’s the wire for the emergency lights and should be near the bottom of the Tesla styled screen on the back side 👍🏼

Is the boot time still super slow and lowers the bass in the trunk? That was why I returned mine in 2019, i was hoping they fixed those issues in 2021. anybody know?

Yea its super slow still takes about 20-30 seconds to load and the bass I'm not sure because I didn't get the RF option sadly 🥲

It's possible but I wouldn't recommend it, it is a bit glitchy at times and you would have to tether your phone's internet to it. Sometimes the Google maps doesn't even open so... yea wouldn't recommend hahaha

On minute 7.21 that Av cable for the backup camera do you happen to know where I can find the same one ? When I ordered my Tesla for my Evo it did not come with one . I already contacted lancer store but they don’t sell it

If you bought it from the head unit from the lancer store they should have included it with the head unit if not contact the place you bought it from. I bought mine off of Amazon and FLYUNICE is the seller I bought it from, try contacting them and see if they will sell you that cable. Hopefully that was of help 👍🏼

hey there i have this unit but its glitchy it wont play any music past 15 vol also as im driving itll will just stop playing music and then resumes like 1-2 mins later if any has had this prob please share

I'm not sure if this will work but try connecting the stock radio then turning the volume up then reconnect this unit. I think you may have had the volume down very low and it kept that setting and it transferred over to the new unit. I haven't had this problem but that may be a fix, hopefully that helps! 👍

Hi Jack, I believe it will not fit because the curvature of the plastic trim is formed differently on the bottom corners. You can try asking the manufacturer from the website you’re trying to order from. Also I recommend getting an 8gb+ ram one because the one I have which is 4gb sometimes lags. Hope that helps! 👍🏼

@@lancesteini8400 I didn't get a manual either I think they just want us to figure it out 😢. Dual screen there is a a little icon that looks like two squares on the top corner. if you press it, it splits the screen into top half and bottom half but I don't use it much. HDMI I haven't used because I don't think the screen itself can support high definition haha. I'll try to get back to you as soon as I find those things out 👍

I bought this headunits last year and I have the Rockford system and it kept cutting power to my stock amp at volume 13 14 and wouldn’t work right and the fitment wasn’t the best like at the top of the screen in the middle it was loose not worth the money in my opinion looks dope but not good quality for the price

When you order from the company they ask if you have the Rockford Fosgate system, if you tell them you do I think they send something extra with the kit 👍

To tell you the honest truth it is a bit slow, if I were to get another evo and had a choice I might go custom and maybe put in a tablet or an iPad. Another thing that is off-putting is the screen because while you're driving during the day you can't see the screen even at the highest brightness with sunglasses on. Hopefully that helps because at times I do actually regret buying this thing haha 😭

@@JeffSongCars I had this in my Q50s. The original launcher is slow and looks awful. I had CarWebGuru launcher installed and it really changed how I feel about the unit. The unit still had some issues, but I'm used to it by now. I'm installing this in my Evo x today. Great Video.

I usually unplug the battery just in case whenever working with any electronic parts, it's better safe than sorry 😄👍

@@JeffSongCars awesome I removed the negative today this morning set my alarm at 6:29am to install this same unit it works flawlessly thanks for your video JS your video made it easy to install. The only thing I broke one small very tiny plastic piece on the bottom of the AC vent that holds the vent but it still installed acutely without it moving thanks again I watch your Evo videos keep up the good mods work. I even installed today after the head unit was the canards for front bumper driver and passenger side. I got them from eBay for $14.00 dollars they are not rarely or barley perfect fit bit manage to install them, I’m going to get more 3m tape to fully install them for tighter fit. It definitely is an upgrade from the stock head unit. The connectivity thing that bothers me is that every so often you have to forget the paired Bluetooth devices and repair them. Hopefully the upgraded one has a better screen display output as well because if you’re driving during the day and you have sunglasses on, it’s hard to see the screen. I do like the head unit overall though 👍🏼

I'm getting my Tesla style head unit in a few days. I read that you can adjust the sound settings with a special app. I'll let you know as soon as I can confirm. It's especially interesting if you have the Rockford Fosgate soundsystem. I currently have a smaller android head unit , but for some reason it always empties my car within 3 parking days. So better check your battery from time to time. Were you able to get rid of this embarrassing Lamborghini intro picture, by the way?

There is an app that is included with the Tesla style screen but I haven't really messed around with it much because my evo didn't come with the RF sound system. There are the typical "classical, rock, pop, etc" settings but that's as far as I got. Lamborghini picture I couldn't do much because I've been trying to fix my Bluetooth connection to use with the torque app. I will be uploading another vid within a month with the new Bluetooth so hopefully I'll be able to help you out at that time 👍

Hi, did you install the head unit while the battery was unplugged? If you didn’t you might have shorted a fuse somewhere. Check the fuse boxes and check if there is a blown fuse somewhere, try disconnecting the battery for maybe 20 minutes then reconnect, sometimes that helps

Ah yea the manufacturer probably sent the wrong wiring, hopefully it is just the wrong wiring that they sent and it gets fixed 👍🏼

I checked if I have sound on the output and it's ok but I don't have plugs for those outputs. When I take out the bus the car starts and the errors disappear.Thx for quick answer best regards

If your stock headunit looks like the one I took out I believe it should fit, I'm not too sure but when I bought it it said that it would fit Lancer and evo. Hope that helps!

You can connect to your home Wi-Fi or anywhere that’s close enough to catch a signal, you can also use your phone’s hotspot 👍🏼

Make sure all the plugs are plugged in on the back, it also might be a dead diode for the seatbelt light. The seatbelt lamp that’s on the right side of the Tesla screen is for the passenger if that’s the light you are talking about as well 👍🏼

Yes I think mine was the 4gb, I highly recommend getting a higher version if you plan on getting this because at time it will be a bit slow and laggy

Yea all my speakers work, I don't have one in the back because I didn't get the RF package but be sure to check your fuses, it might have blown. Hopefully that helps! 👍
