You should watch a video of the Fremont plant. They build the motors and stamp and weld the aluminum right there. It's as "American (U.S.)" as it gets these days.
@__aceofspades
@__aceofspades 8 жыл бұрын
Thats what Ford, Chevy, GM, etc all did at one point too, remember detroit? Now a large chunk of those American vehicle parts are made in mexico, canada, and asia. Tesla is a child compared to those companies, even though they have their issues. Once Tesla mass produces the model 3, you can except them to open international factories to save money on shipping and taxes. Then decades from now they may move jobs to other countries. I live near the Fremont factory and see a ton of their employee's, but I dont kid myself to believe companies are loyal to countries, they are loyal to money. Even American born, and HQ'd Apple uses Chinese factories and Irish tax evasion.

ac3ofspades878 Tesla will be 95% U.S. made, once they start building all their batteries at the Gigafactory. That's a long-term investment, but you should also be aware that other countries will want them to build them there if they sell them there. We aren't the ONLY country in the world, regardless of what Trumpster-fire says.

For now. But battery (and fuel cell) technology is "young". Massive improvements in power density and reliability every year! Meantime, ICE tech is dead. The only way to get more out of ICE is to add gearing, lower reliability. They are at maximum thermal efficiency already. No room for improvement.

Eric W. Interesting idea, I'm sure it is possible, but that would take some of the fun away in my opinion. It is cool to try for a a real good reaction time. As someone who races the 1/4 mile myself, I have a personal best RT of 0.005 seconds after my first drag racing season. A 0.000 is possible and I will be working toward that next season. While it would be cool to see a perfect reacting car that pulls 0.000 every time, I also enjoy the idea that drag racing is as much about the drivers as it is the cars.

It's bracket racing. It's all about driver skill, and how well you consistently get your car down the track. If you can hit your dial in pass after pass, you will win. It doesn't matter if you car runs 10:00s or 14:00s.

Found it! "As independently verified by Drag Times with a VBOX data acquisition unit, Tesla says the electric family car with up-to seven passenger capacity and 315 miles range is good for 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. Drag Times verified 2.54 seconds, 0-100 in 6.52 seconds, and the quarter mile in 10.78@125 mph - presumably all on the street with street tires and as-delivered stock."

It maxes at 155 mph. Also not good for long races because the battery cooling system doesn't remove heat fast enough, but I bet with mods it could be a real contender on complex tracks (lots of curves)... just not long straights.

The most awesome thing about electric cars is that as the battery tech gets better, you can upgrade your battery pack to a lighter, more powerful one. That doesn't happen with ICE cars... you need a machine shop to upgrade your engine/transmission! Imagine a Tesla P85D with batteries that weigh 1/2 as much! The new batteries Elon is making for the Model 3 are already about 25% lighter for same power, and that's not even upgrading to the new chemistries coming out!

Could someone explain these pieces of paper to me? For example at 2:51, why does "WIN" point to the left even though "E.T" (what does that stand for?) is greater on the left and "MPH" is less on the right? I'm also not sure what the following mean: - Idx/Rec - Ov/Un (over / under what?) - DIAL - R/T (reaction time? If so, what's the slash for?) - 60' (60 minutes? 60 arc minutes?) - 330 - 1/8 (time in seconds for 1/8 mile?) - MPH (speed in miles per hour at 1/8 mile?) - 1000 - MPH, the second (speed at finish?) - Left 1st, Left MOV (time difference on entire track between both cars?) Sorry, I'm a noob, German and not very familiar with imperial units...

I'll try. I may not be right though. :) - The time they want to get closest to without going over. - The above time. - Not sure. - Yes. No idea. - 60 feet. - 330 feet. - Yes. - Yes. - 1000 feet. - Yes. - Don't know. I believe the ET time is from when the car breaks the starting line. You need to add in the reaction time to get the actual time from the green light to crossing the finishing line. If you add the R/T to the ET the car on the left has the lower figure without going under 11 secs hence wins. I could be wrong about ALL of the above. :)

No probs. I replied without watching the whole thing so I can add that DIAL is the same as Idx. But instead of having a fixed one for the class(e.g. 11.0) each competitor picks their own time to get closest to. Thats why in some races one car will start before the other.
@michaellittlejohn8723
@michaellittlejohn8723 8 жыл бұрын
Dial is Dial in time = Fastest you think you can go without going Quicker, you try to match the dial in time every race ( Bracket racing ), if you run faster than your dial in you Loose, if both drivers run faster than dial in, the one who is closest to their dial in wins. 60 = 60' foot times, show how quick you are accelerating. 1000 = time at 1000'. Also some Top Fuel racing only use 1000' of strip because of safety. Cars were going over 320 mph and accidents were killing drivers.
@TeamDenverRacing
@TeamDenverRacing 8 жыл бұрын
Look at the r/t that is the reaction time. If you add that to the e.t. you get the overall time for how long it took you to get to the finish line (from when the green light started, not from when the car leaves the line). My overall time was better, I let off half track to make sure I didn't run faster than 11.0 I had so much room to be covered because his r/t was bad. The 11.0 index is a heads up race where both cars leave the line at the same time where as in the bracket race if I dial in 10.90 and the other guy dials in at 11.90 his light will come down an exact second before mine, which means if we both get the same reaction time and both run our exact dial in we will cross the finish line at the same time.. which isn't that rare against real racecars.

it is called bracket racing, if you run faster than the bracket (11.0 sec) you lose there is a bunch of other rules. just making it short and simple

If you would like to use speed and warp stabillizer on the same clip in adobe premiere apply one effect on the clip first, then nest the clip (right click on it), then apply the second effect.

could a smaller set of wheels be fitted? smaller wheel more torque.
@unclhos
@unclhos 8 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure tesla's are programmed to max tire torque. Great part about electric, get max torque without creating wheel spin. Watched a video of one on a dyno and it had issues because front and back wheels weren't rolling together so the computer would try to compensate (thinking there was wheel spin).

masonwatcher yes. slower speed but more acceleration.

There should be a dyno mode on teslas that locks the ratios to allow spin because there really is no traditional TC, but then again tesla doesn't need to care about their cars being dynoed really.

@GyroPyro121212
@GyroPyro121212 8 жыл бұрын
Sadrax Bracket racing 11.0 index. If you go faster than an 11.0 you break out and if the other driver doesn't break out or breaks out by less, you lose. The P100D is currently capable of 10.7 in the 1/4 and had they not used the brakes the car would have broken out and probably gone 10.8 or faster. Though he still would have won because the Hellcat went 10.36 and therefore broke out by more than the Tesla would have on a full pass. The goal in bracket racing is to consistently run as close to your dial-in time as possible without running quicker. In this case, it was an 11.0 index class so all cars had an 11.0 dial-in. I personally prefer heads up drag racing to bracket racing, but bracket racing is very popular these days.

You don't need to warm your tires with the Tesla. The software in the car handles everything based on how much you are pressing the pedal down.

Was doing a trip plane from Charlotte to Las Vegas. Have to add 8 hours to the trip just for charging. The Tesla Truck can only go 500 miles on a charge still a wait and see what it does through the mountains weighted between 76000 and 80000 pounds. And just where are we going to get all this extra electricity from. Turbine ( non on windy days or if the keep catching on fire and killing 100s of thousands of birds every year) solar (what is the chemical waste from producing those and in 20 years what are you going to do with the panels when there is no way to recycle them) ill be waiting.
