My grandfather gave me this 1968 model Barracuda in 1979 when I was 15 years old. Mine was olive green with a white vinyl top, and a white interior. It did not have the tach. He had driven it for a couple years in Pennsylvania. It was so great watching this video. I drove that car for 7 years. It was my high school and college car. I called it the "family" version of the Barracuda, because very little about it was super sporty like the Barracuda tradition. I traded it in 1986 for a Nissan Sentra that had about 87 horsepower. After the nice pickup of the 318, this was hardly any power. There are some fun similarities between the factory model and the model restored here, which he was able to replicate in the restoration. First, the warm up. If you tried to move the car before the temperature indicator reached the first line after the "C", the engine would stop. I saw he warmed it up to the same spot before he moved the car. This was only much of a problem in the winter time. Mine took about 10 minutes to get to that point before I could move it, in the 20s to 40s of the Virginia winter. Maybe all cars needed to be warmed up to a certain point before moving them. Trying to move it before was a losing proposition. Second, the bumping he heard from the wheels, when he turned the wheel. This happened only when you turned the steering wheel and wheels to their extreme or close to extreme left or right position. Mine was in the front left. Not in the back. I don't understand how he heard the bumping from the back since the back wheels do not turn left or right. Ghost in the machine. Third, the rust behind the back wheels was horrific. The repaired rust on this model in the video was nothing compared to mine. Mine was design flaw bad, and the rest of the body, especially the lower parts, had very little if any rust. You can see the curve in the body the lower rear area behind the back wheels which would probably catch water. Since I was 15, I of course had to put a stereo in the car. I used a hacksaw to cut out speaker holes in the steel back shelf. I mounted the unit under the heater vents in the center. The first was an exterior single 8-track unit that I could hook into the radio. The second was an exterior radio and cassette player. This was a great car except for its few weaknesses. It had a few details that were fun. There was a light in the driver side footwell that was controlled by a toggle switch seen at the left lower area of the dashboard next to the steering wheel. It had little round running lights on the front and back of each side. It had turn signal indicators at the left and right front of the hood. Of course it had the front end windows on each side but that was pretty typical at the time. They were great for smokers, so many people did in the 1960s and '70s. It had AC, which worked great for its time, but really cut engine power and gas mileage when it was on. Thanks for your video. It was nice to see a well preserved and restored model of this 1968 Plymouth Barracuda, which I loved so much when I had the original factory model.

I love watching these videos because currently I daily drive a 78 c10 with a 383 stroker (not recommended) and have a 68 gmc 1500, 58 Chevy Apache, all of their conditions are decent but I see the quality of the cars and pricing you guys have for yours and constantly remind myself there’s still plenty of work to be done and these videos very much inspire me to continue working on all of them especially when my knuckles have no more blood to give to the good ole steel bodies. Classics are definitely the only vehicles I really care to drive even though I am only 21, I grew up riding around most evenings with my grandfather who would choose to drive me around in his 70’s Chevy instead of his newer trucks and I never really understood why until I got one for myself since his accident. There’s just something very relaxing and nostalgic about driving down the curvy country roads and passing through town despite the immense engine droning, and knowing my motors shaking what good bolts I have left holding me onto the frame, drum brakes that barely stop it, the sweet smell of premium gas money just burning away just to refill it in 20 miles, turn signals not flashing, no ac, driver window doesn’t roll down, horn non existent, the only working gauge is the fuel gauge (only one you need your eyes and ears can tell you everything else), all these things and I still choose it over anything, I can only imagine the joy and feelings from driving a complete or near complete old school like one of these…

I agree with the other fellers, that exhaust definitely needs a few more hangers. It's just banging into everything under there, including the driveshaft it looked like. Otherwise a sweet ride👍👍

First car was a 68 fastback S with the H.P. 340, sure grip rear. Med. green metallic with deluxe white interior. Super nice, fast car, ( would bark second with factory automatic 727) Til' a traveling salesman speed balling his ass off wiped the whole side off, from front bumper to rear bumper. searched for years but never found another, this was before the internet.

Very beautiful! And the sound...! My Grandma had a fastback for years. Once it was in the workshop and she had to borrow my auntie´s Toyota. When she brought it back, she told her it´s broken. Just had no power at all compared to her car... 😆

I really fell in love with this car! It looks so original besides the chart as shown shows the engines been pepped up! I really wanted you to properly open up to 6000rpm that looked like it's shift point by way of telemetry and I don't think you were in first gear no way man!😂 at 5400rpm peak at that much power would that be to the wheels?? DAMN. The plain white fish! What a car

Thats funny! I had that same dent in the middle of the hood on my 68 Fastback. The guy that replaced my 318 with a 360 crate motor didn't cut the air cleaner screw far enough. Almost put a hole right through the hood!

What? 😆 A 360 has a 4" bore with a 3.58" stroke. A 340 has a 4.04 (.040" larger than a stock 360) with a 3.31" stroke. Bore a 360 .040" over and voila, you have a stroked 340! And 360 blocks are plentiful! The 360 is a better choice!

@@samuelvickers7910 I am aware of that. The 360 was released in 1971 for passenger cars. 71-74 360 blocks utilize the same water jacket core as a 340. So, the 71-74 360 can be safely overbored .100". I have done a few this way.
