Unlike what some commenters are saying, Super Cruise disengaged because it either lost eye tracking or your eyes weren't on the road section it likes; it does NOT disengage because your hands aren't on the wheel. Looking at other vehicles, billboards, or the dash screen for too long will warn the driver with the flashing green light @ 13:30. It started disengaging and flashed red on the steering wheel @ 13:36 when eye tracking wasn't re-established. Since you didn't immediately take over the wheel in the first 10 seconds of red flashing, it entered the "Lock Out" stage, adding the vocal audio cue @ 13:45 to warn the driver to take over as it brings the vehicle to a stop. It will also disable Super Cruise until the car comes to a complete stop & turns off. After the car is restarted, you regain access to Super Cruise. Since Dave didn't grab the wheel until right when the vocal warning started, it had already entered "Lock Out". My '23 Bolt EUV has the same features, but with an additional beeping audio warning when it first starts flashing red to take over. This one had no audio warning until the "Lock Out" stage.

The whole EV thing is a personal issue, you are correct. What few people are talking bout is that states are now beginning to charge EV users an additional fee because those states aren’t getting their revenue from gas taxes. Also, in my opinion mandating it is not the way to go.

Dave, welcome back I have missed your videos, I am in Toronto, I drive about 30k a year I am not 100% sold on the range concerns with the weather / all wheel drive but no question the manufacturers are getting better with their products, 100K for a daily driver is pricey. Please keep up with your posts, you do a great job!

My only issue with EVs is the government telling me what I can and cannot buy new after a set year. Let the consumers decide what's best for them and may the best win. Also, no tax dollars for incentives to buy.

Thanks for the little super cruise demo. I always thought the super cruise was handsfree like Ford's blue cruise. My Ford Expedition Platinum came with Blue Cruise and it is hands/foot free driving.

This vehicle should've been called the Avalanche. The Avalanche was a great vehicle and is way more similar to this than the normal Silverado.

People tend to forget that the Avalanche was a modified Silverado, and why would you name a completely new truck after a failed and discontinued platform? Of course I guess they did thta with the Hummer!

a lease counts the same as a sale but with leases they come back on the lot usually in 3 years and therefore make used evs drop in price so much

Who, in their right mind, will pay $96,000 for a pickup truck. With a weight of 9000 pounds I would imagine the tires would need to be replaced more frequently than other pickups.

There will be a lot of insurance companies that will not even insure one of these at 96,000 due to potential repair costs, especially the battery pack. I've owned two Bolt EUV's so I am not anti EV but at this price there is simply no case you can make regarding value to the average consumer looking at an EV. These will sell in niche numbers at higher trim levels and fleet sales numbers in the WT trim for companies that want to pay still between 60k and 70k after tax credits and incentives, depending on what state they are based in.

It’s a great option if you can afford the price and have home charging, if you don’t have home charging you will be very frustrated and begin to hate your truck if you have to use the electrify America stations, the charging system infrastructure outside of Tesla Supercharging is poor at best and completely unreliable, this truck should have had a NACS (Tesla standard) charging port from the start (they say it will have it next model year) when it does then it will be a great buy if you are looking in that price range

That instrument panel display is very similar to, if not identical to that of my Blazer RS EV as well as the HUD display. My AWD Blazer is rated at a 279 mile range but my “guess o meter” is showing in the low 300s. We will see how it does in the winter. I had a 2020 Bolt and range was drastically reduced in very cold weather.

The Silverado EV would be a lot better if it looked like the traditional Silverado....

@super_tomtendo It drives smoother than ICE (any trim) and I think it looks like a traditional Silverado with aerodynamic effects. I do not think the looks are an issue, so I took delivery of one 3 weeks ago (in white). The 2018 duromax I just sold was a slug on the road, I do not miss it in the least with the cost of diesel and DEF now in my past. Thirty seconds to connect to charging at night is easier than twice a week at the pump. A test drive is the only way to learn about it.

Definitely a great truck and it would actually work for my use but can't justify the $96k price tag or the unknown long term reliability/repair costs after warranty has expired. Tires alone would cost around $2k.

I know that you made the right decision with buying your Vette, but having now driven the Silverado EV, do you wish you would have waited until the one you reserved came in, especially with the 440 mile range on the truck ?

I love super cruise. The lock out might because of your glasses. The camera needs to see your eyes.

Hi, To start with always enjoy your videos, no bull… , just good information. I am not an EV person at this point. A few concerns I have , Towing’s capacity and how towing affects distance you can travel. Cold weather distances . As far as the green side of them. Everyone realizes what you have to do to make electricity, mostly comes from fossil fuels. Also when these things wear out, what will we do with 1000s of batteries, hopefully recycling. The pollution that is generated to mine lithium and to manufacture batteries is very significant. IMO, we just need to find a balance, cause EVs don’t work for everyone, Tired of the Dems trying to shove it down our throats. It will all come in time, let the technology come in a bit more gradually. Hope you’re enjoying your Corvette, I do mine. Have a nice day.

Okay Dave, I don't know anything about EV's, so I have 2 kinda dumb questions. When you use one-pedal driving, when the vehicle is braking itself, I assume the brake lights illuminate? If you are in an accident and the vehicle has no power, can the doors still be operated manually, inside and from the outside, so you can get out or open the door to help someone get out?

Yes, the brake lights do illuminate when using one pedal driving or when using the regen paddle. They turn on when the car reaches a certain rate of deceleration.

Also, FYI the comment "charge it once a month" is a no no for EV battery. Think ABC. Always Be Charging. Always be plugged in when not using (max 80%). Keeps the battery healthy.

This 9000 lb vehicle will probably be great when all this electric equipment goes haywire and causes a big wreck that these high powered trucks have. Lawyers will settle for millions like tractor trailer wrecks that occur now.

I guess your electric provider doesn’t reimburse you the charger install cost where you live. In NJ they will cover the cost of the install so out of pocket it’s about 200 bucks .
