Nice video, it was easy to tell how much you like that Triumph ! They are a great motorcycle. Funny you were at Mom's, long ago I would frequently go to Mom's in Manchester NH and browse the inventory. This is back when the store was not very big (I was in my 30's so 40 years ago. Bought many parts there for my bikes. It is great to see how well they have done. I like the way you are trying out many different bikes, Your enthusiasm is about motorcycles is wonderful! Reply

I recently bought a '23 Scrambler XE. A bit taller and a few more components. The most fun bike I've had in a long time, and you are correct, it feels like when I was younger riding my KD100 down the back roads. It does everything and does it well. The heat on the leg was an issue. I replaced the OEM exhaust with Arrow slip-ons (who make them especially for Triumph) and the addition of that slip on exhaust basically took all of that heat away from your leg. It's my second Triumph and I love them. They make the Scramblers in a 400cc now which are very attractive. You might also like the T-100/ T-120. A little more approachable while retaining the Triumph classiness. Good video- Thanks.

I was one of those who recommended trying a Triumph, but I wasn't thinking about a Scrambler, I was leaning more toward one of the regular street models, either a Speed Twin 900 or Speed Twin 1200, with lower seat heights (more like your Yamaha 650). The lower pipes will be more comfortable for your right leg, too. Keep testing bikes - we like it!

I have two. '23 Tiger Sport 660 and a '24 Speedmaster. I love both bikes, however, they are completely different animals. Tiger Sport is very sporty and loves corners, the Speedmaster is a torque machine. Both are a joy to ride!!

First off, good on you for getting on the Triumph. I had a feeling that would be a good one for you. Secondly, the Scrambler is taller because of the longer suspension. Great for off road, but can be intimidating at first. But you have the characteristics of the engine. The T120 is "slower" but pretty torquey at the low end. The Speed Twin and Thruxton are the same engine, but geared quicker and higher revving. The Bobber and the Speedmaster are closer to the T120, but with softer suspension, different seats, and the Speedmaster has those crazy beach bars that I could never really get used to. I would totally avoid that Rocket 3. Great bike, but they're massive, heavy, and don't exactly maneuver like anything else. I would say a Harley Road Glide is more nimble. But DAMN do they go! To be honest about the Bonneville range, aside from the Bobber and Speedmaster, the seats can be harsh. Most complaints come from heavier guys, but everyone is different. My T120 has me in agony at about 2 hours. And I'm about 200lbs. Also, give those singles a try. The Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400x have great reviews, and the price tag is awesome.

The pipes running between the legs is the only thing that puts me off about the Scrambler. Great bike but then again I’ve never ridden one so I don’t actually know how hot the pipes get. I live in the south so any added heat is a bad thing. I’ve been eyeing the T100 / 120 as possible upgrade. Fun video watching you test ride and hearing your thoughts. Try a T120.

If you want a modern bike that is otherwise like the XS, you should try the standard Bonneville T100 or T120 (basically the same bike with different sized engines). The XS is pretty much a Japanese copy of the 60s Bonnevilles! It’ll have a little lower stance than the scrambler, and it’ll have lower pipes!

Another difference I believe is the T100 has a 5 speed and the T120 has a 6 speed.

Hey. If you love the 1200, you might enjoy the Scrambler 900 even more, as odd as that sounds. I've ridden both and chose the 900. There's just something about it that's kinda magic. Not sure if I can post a link here but this is the video I did after 3000 miles. It's now just under 8 weeks since I've owned it, and I've got like 4100 miles on it. I CANNOT stop riding it! (The 1200s are fantastic too, and maybe that's the one for you. I have two friends on Scrambler 1200s and they adore them.) kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6OtqoafeJV6Y6c p,s. I crack up when you go by Normandy Farms. I spent all my childhood summers there camping. Lots of fun memories.

Glad you tried the Scrambler XC. I think that has a 33" seat height. I think you may want to try the Bonneville T120. Think everything you liked about the scrambler you'll find on the Bonneville but has a lower seat height. (I like the Speedmaster, one complaint I've heard is some don't like where you put your feet way out front.)
@BugzyMoto
@BugzyMoto 3 ай бұрын
The T120 sounds nice, I'll check it out! Yeah the speedmaster is on my list too, I've yet to ride a bike with more forward foot pegs, I wonder if I'd like it. I've seem people do both foot positions so they have options on long rides, thats interesting to me too- I love options:)
@pcthayer
@pcthayer 3 ай бұрын
@@BugzyMoto Options are always good. Still think you should try a Yamaha Bolt somewhere before buying something, but I don't think it would be as versatile. Great backroads but not on the highway. The Triumphs (1200s) with the 6 speed transmissions would offer better highway rides I would imagine. Keep on looking for that perfect bike.
@pcthayer
@pcthayer 3 ай бұрын
@@BugzyMoto Just be conscious of these costs of the different options, since you started out talking about the XSR700 and Bolt which were in the $8-9K range, now talking about the Triumphs in the $13-15K range. The better the option the higher the price. (unless you end up going used bike.)

I was the one that told you to connect with Eric, but that's the "other" Eric. lol. Apparently there's two guys named Eric at Moms. I worked with the other one.. he's in the Indian sales. But glad this Eric is cool too. 🤣 I hope you get to ride the Speedmaster. I have a feeling you'll really like that bike. I've had several Triumphs over the years and its honestly one of my favorite brands. I also think you'll like the Indian Scout. I wish I knew you were headed there today.. I would've tried to meet ya there. My Indian is still in the service department but its ready to be picked up. I'm headed over tomorrow morning (Saturday) to get it.

Of COURSE there are two Eric's! The universe is wild. How are the Triumphs for reliability and long rides?
@randomstuffwithjoe
@randomstuffwithjoe 3 ай бұрын
@@justinfrombugzy They're great. My last bike was a 2012 Triumph Thunderbird. Never failed me in 20k+ miles. It ended up getting stolen tho. I'd probably still have it otherwise. If Triumph made a full dressed touring bike.. it might sway me away from Indian again.. but I love my Chieftain too. That Rocket Storm is a beast btw... I rode one of the previous generation Rockets.. and it was mind numbing how much torque that thing had. My friend rode his Thruxton cross country.. 8000 miles in 6 weeks.. and said it was rock solid reliable.. tho it wasn't the most comfortable bike to ride long distance. But that bike was only a 900. I suspect that 1200 would do much better.

Oh.. and one other thing to consider.. if she wants to do some longer rides or touring in the future.. the type of bike she's considering should reflect that. Something with a more relaxed seating position and forward controls.. bags.. windscreen.. etc. Just something to think about.
