Thank you so much for this comprehensive review with so much emphasis on the camera. The camera on this is the primary reason I've upgraded from the P3Pro. This camera system with the 1" cmos sensor AND in this small body design makes it perfect for what I do. the careless ones are a pain.. xmas approaching will see more..theres a local neighbour hood group where i live and they have reported 50 drones incidents to police/council.. low flying over gardens..hovering and peering into houses..all my local flying spots have now been black listed by council and park trusts.i used to enjoy taking mine out and just going up and taking a few photos

Great review Tested! Great vids too man. Just got mine 2 weeks ago moving up from the P4. It is awesome! Only thing I might say is that the mechanical shutter is really only affecting your stills. This was a misconception at first about the panning in video being better because of the new shutter. Don't think that's the case. Thanks for the review!

I was thinking the Phantom 3 Advanced, it has the long range radio. But is the better camera worth it on the 3 Pro? And I've read some horror stories with dealing with DJI customer service. And I meant first professional style drone and not just a toy.

The Phantom 4 is kinda easy to fly, and it is so much better than the P3. You just have to spend a little bit more money to buy the Phantom 4, and it is really cool.

um you guys do know that the mechanical shutter isn't used in video correct? Thats for stills, no mechanical shutter could operate at 60fps and make a good video

I do not know how this particular camera works, but there are mechanical shutters for video cameras, and I'm pretty sure they will handle 60fps, if not 1000fps. They are essentially spinning disks with a cutout, so that they block the light for half of the time when spinning.

how did your editor like the D-Log? in my testing, it gave me some bad artifacts when grading. I'll do more testing, some said it's unusable because if how bad it is, I hope not!

The P4 Pro has a much higher bitrate at around 100Mbps in H.265, so the increase in quality for post-processing should be very noticeable.

If you have the budget, sure. It was my first drone except for a $50 Hubsan X4 I bought just to get familiar with the controls. After about 30 minutes with the Hubsan I was ready, and the P4 Pro is much easier to fly since it uses GPS and its sensors to maintain stability and position.

As for long range, after reading some of the forums at PhantomPilots.com (I'm not into long range myself), I am seeing some very positive comments - some folks are going out 20,000 ft and back without any mods to the antennae.

Can somebody explain to me how the Mechanical Shutter works on the P4A/P4P? I'm a photographer, I know all about Shutter Speeds, Aperture settings etc. But, I don't understand the concept of a 'Mechanical Shutter' on a video Camera. If you set the Phantom to 50fps, surely there's not a Mechanical Shutter opening/closing 50 times a second. How does it work?

Great information but I really think you were too hard on the camera system. Its an amazing camera with 4k. I would be much more critical of flight time, obstacle avoidance, and features like follow me. I would love to have this drone but its just too expensive. Did you shoot in 4k and then crop and scale? Because the footage looks terrible, like low resolution JPG. Far worse than any 1080P footage I've seen from even the Phantom 3. Can you comment on this?

The magic wand is better than dji tracking software. Search for yourself on youtube and compare them, dji lost track when the subject is far or by pass under the drone or hidden behind trees.. While yuneec magic wand track wherever the stick with go with you.

all green areas are owned by parks trusts are now a no fly zone..ok, i understand some as they have an active heli pad..main park has a heli pad at the top end.. but the rest is well away..they are saying it affects the wild life..and sometimes they have sheep in the park..dog walkers have made many complaints...and if you go further in milton keynes you then hit a no fly zone due to the prison..and as i dont drive my days are over as a hobby flyer.

Why do you people always call it "outdated"? Just because a newer version of a product comes out, doesn't mean the older version is now "outdated" It's just an older model that's all. Perhaps people like the Phantom 4 and don't want to change. Or, maybe they can't afford the newer version and will stick with what they have for the time being. A digital video camera will use an electronic shutter, otherwise it would vibrate such a small camera like that. 1/50th of a second is an electronic shutter going off. Hence the rolling shutter, because a digital image reads from left to right and down, so if you move too quickly, the bottom of the image is processed last. So the image looks bent. A really old film camera used a wheel with a hole in it, which span around in front of the film, allowing light in every 50th of a second. The mechanical shutter is only used when taking photos....

got my Phantom 4 Pro already some weeks ago: Range is a big nightmare. The CE/European version is not working beyond 800m/0.5miles. Tried several locations far away from any interference sources - even over the ocean far away from anything. Very annoying. DJI promises 3.5km on their website for CE version. They don't advertise "up to 3.5km" - they say "3.5km". Support is not responding to this in a professional way. They only send automated text messages without reading or understanding my messages. Stay away from DJI

Amir Hamzah true, but it is not 100% accurate, plus while you're filming you will see the auto focus changing throughout making the video unusable for professional use.
