I love how someone so talented and full of knowledge never ever comes across condescending in any way. I feel if you met Adam in person and asked him a basic basic question, he'd spend as much time with you as someone asking him something really complicated. Lovely guy.

Except when it comes to the chef's knife. That's a fake layered damast, it's a pair of decorational damascus texture metals forged onto a cheap thin center piece of superior non-patterned steel. Still a good knife because cheap modern steels are superior to the most expertly crafted antiques, but it's like showing up to Pebble Beach with a 2015 Toyota Prius, proclaiming yours is the best car there. Technically, you're correct, also: you're an ars3h0le. Neither proper Damascus nor pattern-fold forged damascus stops having a pattern a few millimeters from the cutting edge. That's a US$12.- AliExpress knife.

Honestly, dude. Who cares? I get the point that you're trying to make, but do you really have to get so defensive about everything? And because I suck at speech and debate I'm just gonna go through each one of your points to see if its bullshit or not. First of all, proofread everything you type *before* you go and post it on the internet. That's all I'm going to say about that. Also, I believe the term you are looking for is 'pattern welded steel', the act of forge welding many layers of different types of steel, then etching them in an acid solution (commonly ferric chloride) to reveal oxidation colors of the steel based off of their nickel content. The other "true" Damascus steel can also be called Wootz. Wootz originated somewhere in India as crucible steel. It is also said that the original recipe or process for true Damascus steel was lost in time, so we can't really know which one is the "truest". Now. Your Prius/Pebble beach comment. I get it, but you could have put a little more context into that. You *could* take a 2015 Prius to a 1950's Pebble Beach race, *or* you could patent your time travel technology and take a god damned Bugatti instead. Next point: *NOTHING* I say, NOTHING you can do will let you keep the visible pattern of the Damascus near the edge of the knife. Y'know why? Because that's where you sharpen it ya bozo. Ya kinda have to remove material off of the edge of a knife to make it sharp. Because shocker- A thinner edge on your blade means its sharper. (Any thing that can be deemed as sharp is anywhere between 30 and 0.03 Microns thick (30 microns = 1/1000 inch). Of course you could possible cold-forge and edge on the blade, slowly hammering the thickness down to that scale, but then you'd just be wasting your time. Finally, where in the hell can you get a $12 knife of that quality and design. Because unless you are pure magic with your time travel and "pull whatever the hell I want out of a hat" abilities you can't. You really cannot get a knife like that for $12. I actually went to the makers website and found the exact knife Adam is talking about here. Its $450. That is a $450 knife of undoubtedly amazing quality that could probably cut you if you looked at it wrong. (OK, that last part was a bit of an exaggeration but my point remains). All in all, there is nothing here that Adam has done wrong. He described the knife in 'basic' enough terms for the general public to understand. I'm sure he already knows that that knife is not technically "True Damascus" but if you go to google and look up "Damascus knife" a pattern welded one is gonna show up if you like it or not. He's also supporting a local business that hand makes each one of their knives, not some corporation that stamps millions of knives out a minute. And besides, Didn't your mother ever tell you, "If you've got nothing nice to say, say nothing at all."

Hi guys. I love this end of year series! Thank you. Just so you know Adam, the centre of London is not ever referred to in the uk as “downtown” (but I’m sure you knew that👍🏻) we usually call it “central” London... although that particular gorgeous model you have is of the “city of London” which is the actual city within Greater London and is now mostly the financial and business district. It has a fascinating history for you to look into. Lovely model though
