Still one of the best cartridges out there. Its no slouch and gets the job done for everything a guy would normally hunt, especially in N. America. Its proof you dont need a magnum as it can get near enough mag performance.

Fantastic review of the new 30-06 starline brass. I have had very good results with starline 308 Winchester brass. I own a 1903A3, and a garand, both in 30-06, and enjoy shooting both. I have several rifles, but the 30-06 has a special place in my line up. I've been using mine over 20 yrs.and have never had any issues with mine not being enough gun, it always performed well. It also shoots well when I do my part. I also enjoy its military history.

-06 is my favorite. I guess it's the history of the cartridge that makes me like it above other rifle calibers. The same will go for the 45ACP, tho I just now after many years of shooting have developed a love affair with my RI 1911. I'm still caring for and loading WWII -06 brass I was given long ago. 👍😎

Ironbomb: You got it! I agree with you. The very FRIST firearm I ever shot was a WWII M1911A1. My grandfather took me out to go shooting out in the country where we lived. He brought a 16 ga Remington pump and the 1911. At the time I was all of 8 years old! First shot with the 1911 drew blood (MINE!) as I learned the hardway how to orient my thumb web under the beavertail - Ouch! Been shooting ever since. Back in those days we could just drive out to the rice fields and hunt pheasant, which we very plentiful in those days (1950's.) My M-1 has been with me for nearly 40 years now and is a pretty as the day I purchased it.

@@MarkBrown5150 that's excellent! I found the firearm activities on my own. My dad was not a hunter so I didn't shoot my first gun until basic training in the Air Force! But nothing feels as good in my hand as my 1911. ♥️♥️🇺🇸👍

I love the '06. I've taken deer with it obviously it performed great. In the PA deer woods, it has no match. Since my shots never exceed 250 yards, I can never justify taking the 7mm-08 out instead of my 30-06. The versatility of the cartridge for people who hunt a wide variety of game is nice.

Heck ya I hunt with the 30.06! My KZbin channel has 30.06 in the title! Other awesome features you didn’t mention- - barrel life is awesome with the 06 - recoil is not bad, even in light weight rifles. Can be stout with heavier bullets but it does hurt. -coolness factor I just built a left hand Savage long action in 30.06 using a 26” McGowen Barrel. Come on over and check it out!

Gavin, brass testing IMHO must include a "torture test" of sorts. Knowing how good or bad the consistency of a lot is great but testing for 5,10 or even 20 reloads on a few pieces of brass in the test would be nice. On a book max load how well do the primer pockets hold up and what about the necks cracking, you have the ability to show annealed vs un-annealed, plus measure primer seating force. Just my thoughts, love your videos.

The problem is that it wouldn’t carry over from one rifle to another. Pressures vary a lot with throats and some chambers are loose enough they really stretch brass (m1). Case life is often more about the chamber and load than the brass
@MrMalicious5
@MrMalicious5 2 жыл бұрын
@@G5Hohn Say that about Hornady or Federal brass that can't hold a primer after 4-5 firings while my Lapua cases are going on 10+ firings on hot reloads.
@G5Hohn
@G5Hohn 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrMalicious5 I’m not saying Lapua brass isn’t better. It is. But there are chambers and throats that can kill it rather quickly while some can keep Hornady alive rather well. In the latter case, Lapua will last even longer than the Hornady will.

Used .30-06 all my adult life starting with the issue M1Garand in the Army. Later built one with a barreled 03A3 Springfield action, 03 trigger guard, follower, and receiver sight, and a sporter stock. Saw no need for anything else. Neat thing, for fast reloads, I can use 5 cartridge stripper clips with the Murphy drill, one cartridge in the rifle, fire, reload, timed to engage next target. Learned this drill in the Army with the M1 Garand. .30-06 and the variety of loads is all I will ever need.

I set mine up with a Huskemaw 5-20 with 40MOA of elevation and I settled on the 230g Berger OTM Tactical bullet at 2,436. Shot whitetail deer and feral hogs everywhere from 15 yards to 719yards. You might try some magnum primers with the H4350. I'm about to try it myself. Shooting Hunter under a 180 Sierra Pro Hunter with WLRM primers I got 2768 ft/sec with an ES of 8 with an SD of 3, shooting 4 shots from 2 rifles. It will probably never happen again but I was impressed. Both were 22 inch barreled winchesters. I'm working with H-4350 now and getting just a tic more velocity but ES SD similar to what you're getting. Also I checked Hunter for temp sensitivity. The initial workup was done at 68 degrees and I put three rounds in the freezer for about two hours and fired them over the chrono. I got 2711 ft/sec and the same ES and SD.

I agree 30-06 is all you need.Ask my 14 year old son.He had my Remington 742 180 grain Core-lokt.amo.The only shot he had was a front shoulder shot.It is a 11 point buck.He said Daddy I'm glad I didn't carry a smaller caliber today.So I guess he's hooked to a 30-06.well i.am too. Enjoyed your 30-06 facts,why go to another caliber

I would like you to build and work up hunting loads for a 280 Ackley Improved. Sharp shoulder and minimum body taper just like the Creedmore, but full length and 7mm. Nosler made it a factory round to boot. Off the beaten path a bit, but deserves more attention.

I love the 06 no one on You tube responds to me, but the 06 with a 165 GMX and 55.0 grains of IMR 4350. And I believe that the 30-06 can harvest just about any animal on the planet. The problem is that the industry conditions people to buy their products. However, I will not hunt with the 6.5 for big game. The reason is because I love the 06, 308, and 30/30 for my needs. The bottom line upfront, is that I want an ethical harvest, but if one is hunting a Grizzly I can see why survival is important.

I live up here in Alaska and one comment I have is using the 30-06 for the grizzly was probably ok, but I think he would have been better served by a 300 Winchester. And you definitely don’t want to tangle with a brown bear with anything lighter than a 300.A friend died and left me a 1903 Springfield which of course is a 30-06 and I love that rifle. Very moderate recoil, all my other rifles are big hard kicking magnums so the ‘06 is a joy to shoot. I am very curious what your test will reveal about Nosler Custom brass. Everything that I hear tells me that Nosler Custom is the best brass available so I am curious how that will measure up and how it compares to other brass.

The 30-06 will always be the best balance of comprises as a single hunting gun, but if allowed two, I'd go with the 270 for longer range and 338-06 A-Square for the biggest game. 😁

You need to add a couple of measurements to your test. Measure the base diameter and compare it to the drawings. SAAMI allows the case base diameter to be as much as .008" under the chamber base diameter. Accuracy repeatability requires .002" difference or less. So how much undersize are these cases? Do a case roll test to see if the internal concentricity is uniform with the outside concentricity. If the case rolls in a lop instead of a steady roll, the case is lopsided internally. You will see this as lopsided case base bulge after firing. Out of 250 resent Starline 30-06 cases, only 70 passed the lopsided test, and the case base diameters are as small as .464". That is far smaller than the chamber base diameter of .470".
