Hornady’s 22 ARC was designed for the AR platform. I’ve done a lot with this cartridge in a bolt-action, but am just now building a semi-auto with ODIN Works. I'm putting it to work to get a feel for the platform, and the unique touches Odin Works has put on this rifle. Check out the results!

My 18 inch 6mm ARC is running a Odin Works barrel and shoots sub MOA all day. I just built a 16 inch 22 ARC (video on my channel) using a Faxon barrel and it's sub MOA also.

I’m glad you could find factory ammunition. I own the 18” upper in 22 arc from Odin works. I am averaging 3130 fps with the 62 grain. The 22 arc shoots like a laser out to 300 yards. Love the caliber. Had to make my brass out of 6.5 Grendel brass. The rifle has sub moa capability.

I would be more excited about. 22 Arc if i hadn't jumped on the .224 Valkyrie wagon a few years ago. Odin Works makes great stuff though. I love their handguards. They are super light and i love that the barrel nut doesn't have to be lined up with the gas tube, so you can get the exact barrel nut torque you want. Great video as always.

Great video as always.To answer your question - I built a 22ARC utilizing the Odin Works 18" barrel, BGC and adjustable gas block. I'm running it on a Seekins Precision lower. Shooting handloads with the 62VT, 75ELDM and 75 BTHP as well as the 88 ELDM. Consistently in the .750 to .550 so well under moa through a YHM 30 cal can. It seems to like the 62VT and the 75 BTHP but will still shoot just over an inch or slightly under with the ELDM's. Interestingly - I too have an Athlon 6-24 on mine. Over all I've been quite happy with the performance and incorporate it in to my Montana prairie dog line up.

You might recall that I was shooting my Odinworks 6.5 Grendel and 6mm ARC on the ridge for the RCO and I love them both. Definitely super accurate barrels and great support too. My ARC is configured very similar to your 22 ARC including using the same buffer. I have the ARCA+Pic MLOK which is great because I can use my Atlas bipod or RRS tripod with no adapters. I tried to get Harold with the ARC with Travis but we couldn’t see the misses. I have better DOPE now so I think I could do it now. They make great barrels for sure.

With the gassing issues in 6 ARC I wonder if this is better. I personally wouldn’t buy a 22 or 6 ARC because I am an AR guy and have found that if it isn’t 223/556, 300 Cosby or the LWRCI SIX8 in 6.8 SPC the guns give up some reliability due to having to play games with gas blocks and buffers when I put my silencer on it…

I’m intrigued by the 22 ARC and I think I’ll build one. As a left handed shooter I always find it a challenge to come up with the parts. But I may already have most of it on hand. I have an extra 6.5 Grendel BCG laying around. Does the 22 ARC use the same bolt? My favorite barrels are from Ballistic Advantage and they have a sweet fluted 18” barrel. I like R2 forend you have on yours. Was thinking of a 15.5” model…… Thanks for the nice video and I appreciate your input on my new project…. 👌👍🤗 By the way, how’s the mass reloading project coming along? 🤔😉

Gas block looks crooked (at least from the clip seen in the video), look for greater wear on one side of the bolt carrier's gas key. I'd recommend realigning it and testing groups again. Even a little drag on the gas tube can affect the rifle.

If the buffer weights can’t slide around in the buffers body, then they’re unable to do their job… which is to act as a dead blow to prevent bolt bounce.

You nullified the dead blow effect buffer weights are supposed to provide with a small amount of room to move within the buffer. This will potentially cause or exacerbate bolt bounce.

Why not go 5/8-24? Removing extra material for smaller threads seems backwards, to me. For example, I'm going 3/4" on a 7mm Sherman that I have in the works, rather than 5/8".

What’s the main difference between 22 arc 6 Max and 224 Valkyrie. I built a 224 Valkyrie years back with a Wilson combat barrel. It has been nothing but excellent. What would be the reason to choose the 22 arc or 6 max over the valkyrie. I’ve been wanting a short barreled 6 max lately. That’s why I ask? Thanks
@Bubbybub0077
@Bubbybub0077 Ай бұрын
I think the difference is in velocity and standard loadings. 6 Max is a silly cartridge to me personally. It is an attempt to do something but what I dont know. It cannot utilize heavy for caliber projectiles and only minimally increases bullet velocity of comparable weigh bullets between 22 cal and 6mm. To me if short barrel AR performance is what you strive for you are better suited with 300 blackout or 350 legend. 224 valkyrie is good, no doubt, but it left some things on the table. A 22 arc will be pushing an 80 grain bullet about 75-100 fps faster than the 224 valkyrie out of an equivalent length barrel. Also Hornady is being pretty strict about loadings for the 22 ARC just as they were with the 6 ARC. Only High BC heavy for caliber bullets are being loaded for it and it is set up to easily accommodate the 90 and 95 grain projectiles. Now, if you have a 224 and are happy with it, I don't think 75 fps is worth the upgrade. But now when we look at 22 arc compared to 5.56 we see a 150 fps improvement in velocity, that is not nothing. However, I am fully down the path of the 6 ARC. I have a bolt gun, and AR, and am building another bolt gun in 6 ARC. For me it works for pretty much everything I could ask it to do and then some. It has a versatility that I think 6 MAX, 22 ARC, and 224 Valkyrie are lacking. But to each their own.
@asmcinn
@asmcinn Ай бұрын
I'd compare the cases and estimated velocities to see what you'd prefer. The bullet selection varies widely. The 224 Valk is usually and elongated 223, so you won't see much over the "big" 77gr in the 223. The 6 Max has larger bullets, up to 107 gr iirc.
@CaptainCreampie69
@CaptainCreampie69 Ай бұрын
@@Bubbybub00776 Max is so we don’t have to use a new bolt as well, which with the bigger bolt face in an AR makes it a weak point. 6 Max will be better in an AR.

What is the point of the 22 arc it is a next to useless cartridge. Sure its a bit better then 5.56 for it's intended use case but .224 Valkyrie does the exact same thing performance wise as 22 arc but with more case capacity and has already been around for several years. Can you please tell why this cartridge exists and why people would want it over the more well established alternatives.
@trevorRTK74
@trevorRTK74 10 күн бұрын
224 Valk died and lost a lot of capacity with heavy bullets. 22 arc has hornady backing it along with major rifle manufacturers. Brass is easier to make (6.5 gen, 6 arc). I always shake my head when people call a cartridge useless and talk smack on it. Like dude if you don't have a use or want for it or lack an understanding of what it does then it's not for you anyways so just move on. Find me another cartridge that can push a 65gr bullet at 3100+fps from a 16" barrel and still fit in an ar15 magazine.
@tomjaster309
@tomjaster309 10 күн бұрын
@@trevorRTK74 224 does that 223 Ackley improved 204 Ruger. I have cartridge debates at work on the regular with friends and customers. Using the Russian parent case to make brass isn't what I would a benefit. 6.5 Grendel is not very popular today 6mm arc makes sense as a cartridge 22 arc is the answer to a question that's been answered time and time again. Hornady backing the cartridge is a loose argument since federal the other big name in ammunition designed and back 224 which uses a 30 Remington/6.8 spc parent cartridge case. Performance with 22 arc and heavy bullets against 224 and heavy bullets is a pointless talking point also case geometry isn't enough to make up for less capacity which the 224 has more and the same load from Hornady same bullet weight same product line equivalent the 224 out preforms the 22arc according to Hornady own load data on their factory loadings
@trevorRTK74
@trevorRTK74 10 күн бұрын
@tomjaster309 but 224 died. 204 rug isn't pushing a 65gr bullet at 3100+ especially not from a 16" barrel. federal totally fucked the release of the 224 and only a few people jumped on making rifles for it. I can find available 22 arc barrels for both ar's and bolt guns. 224 Valk are hard to find. I havnt seen 224 Valk ammo in years but I have seen 22 arc granted not much but it's a 100% increase over the 224. They are both very similar cartridges and had federal not dropped the ball 22 arc or as it was known 22 grendel would still be a wildcat. But it's nearly a memory with a few people still buying ammo from boutique ammo manufacturers and near zero commercial support. I liked the 224 but the 22 arc is hear now and it's not going to die as quickly as the 224 if it does die. Add the 62gr eldvt it's a superb cartridge for the small Frame semis and is kicking at the door of 22-250.
@trevorRTK74
