Wētā Workshop's Richard Taylor tours Adam through their fantasy weapons forge stage, complete with massive brick furnace and an ornate dragon motif. The set is completely convincing as a worn and weathered environment, but constructed using Wētā Workshop suite of propmaking and fabrication techniques. It's just one of the many fantastical locations featured at Wētā Workshop Unleashed!

Bluck smyth wants to know why is there a good furnace inside but then the room heating area for you to get burn over when trying to use the forge? 🤦‍♂🤣 "FIRE WHAT DOES IT DO?" Weta Workshop Yes cause thin wood does hold up 1000 Kilograms of iron thats 2200 pounds (weight not money) for the americurns! "WHO IS THIS GRAVITY YOU SPEAK OF?" Weta Workshop

@@Vickie-Bligh This is the difference between corporate model companies and artisan model companies. The executives aren't just there to move numbers around. They are there to guide the creative process - which is well known to them based on hands on experience - into a financially viable outcome. If we had this kind of structure in politics, the world we live in would be much different.

True master's of a craft are more than willing to admit that they don't know everything and and are always looking for new innovations and techniques. Anyone who says they know it all and refuse to learn more are just proving where they fall on a Dunning-Krueger graph.

Yes, this big, kind of gangly, sort of awkward sounding, humble guy who somehow ran EVERYTHING as a small, unknown FX house started the incredible journey to the behemoth with a very family feel to it we know now. Amazing man. The other thing I remember is Gino and the Russian guy (Dmitri?) trading skills for practical and digital airbrushing to bring Gollum to life. Man those extras were epic, all of them.

I recently made an old fantasy book out of cardboard and paper laying around. I balled the cardboard up and reopened it until it looked wrinkly. Dipped the papers in black tea to make them look Old. Painted the cardboard to look used and faded. when I was finished with the painting the book looked so amazing and felt really like an old book you found in an abandoned house. it felt great to make something out of scraps and it look like something amazing and real.

*i do a lot of texturing of parchment like paper using various techniques from watercolor to fabric dye crystals and even selectively scuffing the pages using sandpaper i prefer a more random organic look and most pieces have many layers so one sheet of paper can take weeks of work off and on...i've done this sort of thing for decades...as with anything related to art i consider this my sanity therapy*
