Today I'm testing out this odd mini USB dishwasher, by request. After an initial preliminary test, I tried it out with silverware and then other dishes.
For those who feel this was done improperly, I've updated the written review to show their promotional photos and instructions, which are what I followed. bit.ly/3ej7rfR
Or look at one of the Amazon listings and see how they show it being used: amzn.to/3enmB3y

I understand those who think this should have been fully immersed, but the promotional photos and instructions clearly show it partially submerged. It is also not shown being used in a corner as some suggest. I did my best to accurately re-create what is demonstrated as the proper way to use this item. Would you really put a cheap Chinese electronic device - plugged into the wall - fully underwater when the instructions don't show this being done?

Hmm...tough call. Having worked in professional kitchens, I would hesitate to buy any similar product that wasn't fully submerged. I have a deep love of professional kitchen equipment, though LOL. One day I hope to have a nice Hobart jetter sink with rinse and sanitation tanks. Hope hope hope!

Yeah I don't know why everybody's ripping you for not fully submerging it; at 1:54 in the bottom right corner, it's clearly visible that the installed water level diagram should only be high enough to submerse the actual agitator itself, not the entire unit. And yeah, I wouldn't trust submerging that thing while plugged in either, doesn't seem water tight in any way.

It's clearly not ultrasonic vibration, so it doesn't do much beyond generating pretty waves and bubbles in the sink. The device is only effective in a 2-3 inch radius from the opening of the fan due to the higher levels of pressure is put out to move water and current, after 5 inches away it's way too weak to remove caked on surfaces. It also cannot push water and current into areas that are secluded, like bowls and cups, the 'current' will just go around them. There is a reason why dishwashers does not completely submerge your dishes and instead shoots high pressure water and uses steam and rinse cycles.
@codemonkey2k5

This is true, but I think the fake ultrasonic was actually supposed to do the cleaning. The prop is just to move the water around and get soap distributed.
@SmallSpoonBrigade
@SmallSpoonBrigade 3 жыл бұрын
@Super Blubberpuss I rarely have that issue. Every once in a very long time something will come out of the dishwasher with something caked on. Most of the time it's if I don't rinse my coffee cups and the tiny bits of grounds cake on there, but otherwise it's rare. Most of the time, it's a combination of harder than normal food on there and trying to put too much in the machine. And that's out of a consumer dish washer from Kenmore. Not exactly top of the line by any reasonable standard.

Hi James, The instructions said to place the suction on the 'bottom' of the unit and you placed it on the 'back'. That should allow more of the working part of the unit to be in the water with the wire still positioned above the water. I'm not sure, but repositioning the suction holder lower on the unit might help it function better.

I have one of these in my camper. You submerge the unit, and works best to put it in the corner of your sink. The curve fits it better and holds firmly. @@Cole-ek7fh If it were made well, it really wouldn't be a problem. The danger is VERY low even with the cheap unit because it is being run off of low voltage, low current DC (there is a rectifier in the wall wart). You can't get shocked by 5vdc or even 12vdc. Your skin simply has too much resistance for such low voltage to be dangerous. The current output is heavily reduced by the rectifier. Even if you shorted the DC portion, it really wouldn't do much because the rectifier circuit would burn up.

Too good to be true, it seems. If multi-billion dollar dishwasher manufacturers realized they could just substitute ultrasonic vibrations in place of strong water jets, they'd have already created this. Unfortunately, dirty dishes require physical force to separate the crud from the plates and utensils. No other way around it for now.
@arweninnj

Yet ultrasonic jewelry cleaners seem to work just fine .🤔 I'm not sure of the difference between crud on dirty dishes (especially if you pre-rinse them so that food is not dried on) and the crud that accumulates on the underside of the stone in my ring after wearing it for months.

Ultrasonic dishwashers are, in fact, a thing, and they were thought to be the next great technical advancement of the kitchen. The difficulty has been that they don't work as fast, they use way more water (because ultrasonics require total immersion of whatever you want to clean) and they are not suited to the wide range of different stuck-on food waste that is on dishes. Even with ultrasonics, you still have to brush or wipe off the surfaces before rinsing so they don't save much time and effort. Detergents and water jets that clean more mechanically are better at all of those. Ultrasonics are great for jewelry or machine parts or things with small features that are hard to access. I use them for gun parts, carburetor parts, fountain pens, my eyeglasses and razors & nail clippers. They're perfect for that stuff.

Hi, here's an idea you should retry it but with the unit facing up on the sink drain hole, dont worry about the electricity, that dish washer only uses 5 volts so there is nothing to worry about. Also please keep doing this gadgets videos I really like them. Greetings from Puerto Rico.😎

My thought is that if it just ran the agitator the entire time and eliminate the ultrasonic cycle it could be of some mild assistance for hand washing. Just hold each dirty item right in front of the agitator for a few seconds as you hand wash. That way you can get some mechanical assistance for your hand washing effort, but I think you'd still end up being frustrated with it.

I'd be curious how this would work with powder detergent rather than liquid. The abrasives in powder might make it work better
@ghostratsarah
@ghostratsarah 2 жыл бұрын
Unlikely, the powder dissolves, the abrasion doesn't do anything. If abrasion was the mechanism behind powder dish soap, you wouldn't be able to wash glass or anything that would get scratched. Absolutely no non-stick tools. Powdered soap is exactly the same as dishwasher liquid, it's just dehydrated. The reason it doesn't make many suds is that it's designed to not cause your dishwasher to bubble over.

Consider putting it down as low as possible, fully immersed in water, the constant mechanical action may be more beneficial than using it as essentially just an aerator. I've seen these before and thought of buying them. This one is pretty lame and weak, but even with a full power aquarium pump running the water around I think it's ultimately easier to just wash them by hand. A dishwasher only fully realizes its convenience when it can take on a load of dishes and take them all the way to clean and dry without action imo.

TJ J 5 volt, DC running at somewhere between 0.5 and 2.1 amps (probably 0.5 as they’re the cheapest to make), worst you’re going to do is damage the wall wart even if you just put the bare wires under water. It’s not like dangling an extension cord in the water or a toaster.

While this one may not be made to be totally submerged, there are other washer pucks that are. I would test one of those. Also, you have to keep in mind these aren't really made for able bodied adults, they are more greared towards disabled people who may not have the capabilities to stand in front of a sink.
