Testing AOK Silveroaks Paint - Every Color Shown - Plus Sabaton CD Giveaway

I can provide some clarification on the wonky color numbering. As far as I can tell, these are replacements for the old Anchoret Yao paint lineup (same colors/price/size/thick consistency). Those colors were designed for specific resin kits like Char Zaku II, Sazabi, and Justice (just examples from the reds). They had a color reference for what parts were what paint. Trinity Hobby, a Canadian shop, has those old color reference pictures listed on the AOK Silveroaks paint pages. Anyways, these are fantastic paints and I was happy they got re-released under AOK. The value cannot be beaten. A single jar of this fills up an entire 120mL / 4oz dropper bottle, crazy stuff. 2-3x paint per $ as Mr Color. You just have the like the specific colors.

The detail series is used to highlight small details in a kit, ie pipes, pistons, emergency lights, etc. It’s a semigloss/flat finish and it has a slightly brighter pigmentation to make it stand out.

Yes! The AOK Detail paints are incredible for painting small details (hence the name). They show up much more glossy in this video than when I have used them? Mine are much more semigloss/flat, maybe it’s just the type of spoon?

I’m watching again. I always watch a few times. Forgot to say last time I’ve been wiping the spoons with lacquer thinner. Takes that coating right off. Worked so well I filled up a little cup full and just started dipping the Spoons in LOL

This is some of the best paints .a good friend of mine in Taiwan uses them he does a lot of tone painting for military models he .this paint is very popular in Korea and Japan they mix up bottles to Different ratios .it really good paint and will last a long time

I got a few of this paints that I haven't spray yet, I am glad you did, the blues and gold's they look fantastic..I would be ordering the entire gold line and most of the blues. BTW the Purple would be really nice for a Banshee multitone, I think that is what the line was made for multitone colors.

I quite like them, I might have to try those. The red is quite something else, so is the purple over black. Looks very rich, not bad colors to paint a car with. In your opinion, how important is the compressor in airbrush painting? I upgraded to a Harder & Steenbeck Evolution, but the compressor is still one of those cheap chinese made ones, clearly has a leak somewhere, even though I tried reassemblying it to see if I found it, but no luck. It barely holds 30 psi for a min, and I use it mainly to paint 1/24 scale civilian vehicles (very rarely I go larger scales, but it does happen) for the body paints, metallics and such. Will 20/30psi suffice for it or should I be looking into upgrading it? It has a tank so it doesn't sputter, but the constant compressor noise and the decaying pressure (it usually holds 18-20 PSI after a min of use) has me weary of it.

I had a cheaper Amazon tank compressor that I thought was fine till I upgraded to a quality one and it was a big difference.

Oh yeah, these big test take the better part of a week or two. You really need to get in the zone, the thinning paint and cleaning the airbrush for 70 colors does take its toll for sure. But I do truly love this

This is the video I've been waiting for laying out all the colors lets me see what they look like so I know the ones to buy. For example I was going to go with Red 2 and 7 for dark red color separation but after seeing the red I said ewww to red 7 and will maybe do Red 1 and 2 or 3.

You should try those clear spoons. Could the paints be mixed with the other colors or other paints, and could you spray a flat clear coat to dull the shine too?

They can be mixed with other lacquers and yes you can spray a flat clear over them

Sabaton is awesome! Found out about them years ago when I was playing World of Warships and they promoted their Bismarck song. On a more paint related note: would you be able to do a gold comparison against some plated kit pieces like the 1/100 Akatsuki and MG Hyaku Shiki? I'm trying to find something that matches that gold since my Akatsuki came with a damaged chest piece.

Fun fact: In automotive painting a gold base with a candy/clear over it is known as "candy apple" ie Candy Apple Red, Candy Apple Green. Your typical Hot Rod/Street Rod is painted in bright sparkly candy colors. The gold base adds warmth to a candy to really make the colors "pop".

gotta tell ya. when transferring to a bottle with 3x thinner i made such a mess everywhere! even with a funnel!! somethign with these jars they are too large when you pour it runs down the side. have paper towels handy when you make these! used Dspaie airbrush thinner (yellow cap)

I think it would be cool that when you test a new paint line if you tested it out on a entry grade or something like that, I mean you would end up with some goofy rainbow kits

I still don't understand my ratios. If I have 10 mil of aok paint, I add 20 mil to get 30, or add 30 mil for a total 40 mil?

For thinning to airbrush it go with 50/50. Half paint, half thinner. Then add a few more drops of thinner.

The only one I'm curious about is the black and you didn't test it. Is it gloss??? I use more gloss black as a base than any other color. Can you verify if it's a gloss black?

What's funny is I had the largest CD collection in my state. Over 10,000 CDs. I've been a delivery driver for most of my life and listened to my metal every day. Then the slow disappearance of CDs in autos started to creep in. My last 2 cars didn't even offer a CD player. I got used to downloads and now I load up a flash drive and take dozens of them with me. I actually had to buy that Sabaton CD just to hold it up in the video 😉
