I recommend that when its time to replace your Honda Goldwing heavy Lead Acid Battery to consider switching to a Lithium Battery.

I haven't switched to the lithium battery yet. Earlier this year I replaced a seemingly good lead/acid battery with a replacement Duracell heavy duty. I don't have near the accessories you do. My battery replacement was purely a preventive measure as the old one was 7 years old. My bike is on a Battery Tender brand tender if it's not being ridden. I think they help tremendously in extending a battery's life. Oh, and I agree with you, you have to use a battery charger that has lithium capability and put it on that setting if you're using a lithium battery. That controls charger outputs for both bulk and float charging cycles. Great video Chris.

Enjoyed the video. My battery went out on my Goldwing today while on vacation near the Tail of the Dragon. Original OEM battery in my 2016. Was looking for a NOCO Lithium NLP20. No place near me had one. Purchased a DieHard Powersports Gold Battery: TX20HL. I will use this until I get my NOCO battery from Amazon in a few weeks. Thanks for your review

You got to get up pretty early to get one on the Caliente Garage. I knew if anyone could get to the bottom of the Battery conundrum it would be the Pro over at Caliente Garage. Excellent feedback on the Noco LP20 lithium battery.

Appreciate the review, thank you. My Gold Wing is only a little over a year old, but I like to plan out ahead. I had decided to go LiFePO4 some time ago and am just collecting everyone's feedback on their setup and systems for that eventual day when my stock battery will have to be replaced.

Up to this point the Lithium battery for me appears to be a home run but time will tell over the long haul.

another plus for lithium, as light as they are, I have a second one installed in my trailer that is, of course, charged from the bike and can be used to start the bike should the bikes battery go too low to crank it

Chris. How do you connect you Battery Tender charger to Lithium Battery. Do you need a separate SAE Battery Tender harness or does theNOCO cable accessory harness have an SAE connector?My air pump has a SAE male connector harness too. I have a Scoche power block and the provide an accessory SAE extension to service other SAE devices.
@chriscaliente5033
@chriscaliente5033 Жыл бұрын
A Battery Tender plugs directly into a regular SAE battery cable which attaches to the battery, you dont need a Noco Cable to charge a Lithium Battery. I installed the Noco cable because I have the Noco GB40 portable battery jumper therefore if I need to boost off my battery, I can plug my Noco battery jumper directly into the Noco cable. If you own a Noco Lithium Battery Charger it can also plug into the Noco X adapter that plugs directly into the Noco Cable thats attaches to the battery for regular charging. When you buy a Battery Tender it will come with the SAE plug that connects to the battery for Lead Acid or Lithium battery charging.

How can I purchase a lithium battery
@gaetandubuc825
@gaetandubuc825 Жыл бұрын
I bought one for my 22 dct I had problems with the 250 .the 600 was a slight disappointment on account the connections don't match the batterie 's terminals that turned out to be a problem. If you feel like working on your connections go ahead be patient or just save yourself some problems and buy a stronger lead batterie
@chriscaliente5033

All you had to do was bend the tab on the positive and negative terminal and it bolts right up with no problem, a good mechanic must always be prepared to improvise, stay tuned for my DCT install as I demonstrate bending the tab.

@chriscaliente5033 exactly what I did , but to me when a company says it fits the bike it should. Here in Canada I paid $ 340 . Here the dealership is a bit finicky I hope he won't mind if something happens later. Ride on my man 💪

On the fence about LITHIUM. Installed a lithium in my 2001 goldwing and 2013 Vulcan nomad. Afterwards, got a full suspension upgrade on my goldwing. The rear shock preload adjuster actually started moving from 0 to 24 or whatever the top number is, instead of not beginning to make a difference until after level 10 or so. Shortly after that, the rear shock preload motor all of a sudden stopped adjusting upwards during a trip in Zion. Took the goldwing back to the goldwing specialist in Tempe, they did all kinds of tests, then deduced the lithium battery was the culprit. They said the lithium battery doesn’t have the sustained power needed for all the stuff a big goldwing needs a battery for, including the rear shock preload motor. So they had a used preload motor by chance, and replaced mine (another $600, just after a $2400 suspension upgrade). They convinced me to replace the lithium with a “regular” battery, as the bike was intended to run on, and that was that. They told me the other big bikes I have like the nomad, should not be running off a lithium either….that the lithium is intended for sport bikes, or smaller bikes, not these big touring monsters. I called other goldwing shops across the country to ask what they thought about the lithium in a goldwing being the culprit of my rear preload motor malfunctioning, and even talked to the lithium battery manufacturer themselves about it all. The lithium company says it should not make a difference, the mechanics are back and forth. It all still doesn’t make sense to me, even if the Tempe shop explains it a hundred times. So, I still have the regular battery in the goldwing, I have the lithium in my closet, and that is my story with lithium and my goldwing, Caliente has a ton of accessories to power and maintain, in addition to the actual bike and it’s OEM components themselves. Hope there are no issues like I had with my lithium experience.

What was the exact Brand and Model # of the Lithium Battery that caused you the issues? Be specific please!

@@chriscaliente5033 shorai brand. Which ever model was for the Goldwing that’s the one I got. I don’t think the brand comparison matters. It’s the idea of that they don’t have enough maintenance power to take care of everything on the Goldwing that need to be taken care of --that was the concern. whether it’s in reality true, or not, that’s up for debate.
@chriscaliente5033

@@apm6997so you can't give me the name and specifics of the Battery, I call BS on that one. When your bike is running the alternator powers the entire electrical system of the bike while simultaneously providing voltage to charge the battery. A good alternator should maintain battery voltage between 13.9 and 14.8 volts (14.2 is optimum). Even worst-case, with all accessories turned on, there should be at least 13 volts so how is your battery failing to provide enough voltage to your rear shock preload. It sounds like to me that you have been taken for a ride my friend and if you believe that a Lithium battery is not powerful enough to provide sufficient voltage to a Goldwing then I have a Toll Booth that I want to sell you for a small fee, you can set it up on Interstate 40 and make millions!

@@chriscaliente5033 um….I gave you the name of the battery: SHORAI is the battery brand. LFX36L3-BS12 is the specific battery model for the 2001 goldwing.
@chriscaliente5033
@chriscaliente5033 Жыл бұрын
@@apm6997I’m not sure about that particular battery but again with the bike running your alternator can power the entire Goldwing electrical system so the battery should not have any effect on the shock preload with the alternator charging, it sound like to me they just made up a reason an went with it. Overtime if my Noco battery doesn’t cut it, I will be the first to tell my viewers!
