Michael if ever you come on holiday to southern Ireland and you want to do some fishing you are very welcome to fish on the river inny which flows through our farm here in Co Longford. Pike, bream, roach, perch, eels, and trout and some Salmon are caught. We own about 1.5 kms of single bank and. 5 kms of double bank river. The river inny is a main tributary of the river Shannon.

Great demos of all the gear, thank you. I'm going to look up that water flask and filter, very useful out here in the U.S. Southwest desert 🏜️ I recently came into possession of my great-grandfather's axe from when he was a lumberjack in Wisconsin (between 1890's and 1908). He had given it to my Aunt, (my mother's sister), and she gave it to me . . . I have yet to unwrap it and see what condition it's in, so your axe sharpening demonstration is useful, thanks! Cracked me up to see Simon take off when you mentioned the bed😆 That snowfall in the woods looks magical. Gorgeous night sky view!

You and I have conversed before on the incredible flexibility of the Teton products. I spent 2 night in pouring rain sleeping like a baby with the Extra coverage ground length rain fly. Staking it out nicely made it dry as the desert! I wasn’t aware they made a two cot version of the tent. You are full of surprises. But I do t sleep with stinky dogs. 😂 I laughed out loud as you searched for the words while you enjoyed the 3 liter water sack. Glad you left that in. Keep up the great work.

Michael, Again, I am a big fan of your videos, and you are probably my favorite bushcraft KZbinr, as many of them seem pretentious. I really like the mood that you set. Thank you so much for making this video. I’ve been on the fence for a while now about the Vista 1 or Vista 2, and I think you have helped me decide that the Vista 2 is worth the extra bulk of having to use 2 cots. I two have 2 dogs, and well as a wife (who is not the biggest camping enthusiast), and I wanted something that I could use for either 1 or 2 person camping. The only solution that I could come up with was to buy both a Vista 1 and 2. I still may do this, but I think that now I’ll opt for the Vista 2 first. I have been communicating with Teton Sports as to whether they could design a tent that would work interchangeably with 1 or 2 cots, but nothing is planned as of yet. Perhaps if they received more people asking for something like that, it would help facilitate it being made.

At minute 8:29 after you put the fly on you sat down on the cot in the doorway. That's one of the big things I was interested in knowing, if you can sit on the edge like you did without your head hitting the top. It looks like you had room to spare, that makes me happy. Therefore I assume you can also sit inside without your head hitting the top? I'm 5' 7" (1701.8mm), but I don't know how tall you are. Lastly, I'm wondering how the tent holds up in a strong, gusty wind? Currently I use my Big Agnes Copper Spur UV UL2 for backpacking and it sways significantly in strong winds, which doesn't bother me as long as the poles don't break, but I'm curious about what to expect with the Teton 2. I also like car camping and really like the idea of being up off the ground so I don't have to crawl in and out of my tent on the ground. Great video, thanks
@TheEmporiumOutdoors
@TheEmporiumOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I'm 5'9" and can sit up in the tent no problem. I've used the TETON cot tents for many years in all 4 seasons in Canada and I have never had to guy line them down for wind. HOWEVER I don't get extremely strong winds with camping in the forests. I also have the Big Agnes Copper Spur UV UL2 (great tent) and the Vista 2 is much bigger! Being off the ground is a huge benefit, especially in the snow or mud. It's also easier to get in and out, great for less abled people. Hope that helps! 👍

@@TheEmporiumOutdoors Thanks so much for the additional info, it helps greatly. And I love that you also have the BA UL2 for comparison. Obviously they each have a different purpose and they each have their own merits depending on the type of camping they're intended for.

The Vista 2 uses 2 x standard TETON cots - I'd recommend the Klymitt Deluxe insulated mat and maybe the TETON foam mat if you like a soft bed. Try not to over inflate the mat so that it will conform to your body when you lie down 👍

I am cusrious if you get a lot of condensation on the bottom of the pads and tent floor with the pads inside of the tent instead of under? Reason I ask is I have a vista 2 I set up in the living room to do a sleep in before actually taking it out in the field. I put the pad inside of the tent like you did but tetons website shows it under the tent on top of the cots. It was roughly 62 degrees in the living room, had a ceiling fan on high, and my daughter and I slept in the tent without the fly on. I have a teton xl -25 sleeping bag i used but I slept on top of it with a horizon hound down blanket. Everything went well but when I went to take the tent down I started to roll up my pad and the bottom was wet as well as the floor on the tent. I got hot and thought maybe it was sweat but when I went to roll up my daughter's side the bottom on her's had a perfect wet spot where she was laying and I am positive she did not sweat through. Its not a big deal at home, I just laid the pads over the dog kennels in the living room to dry but I would hate to put the gear away just to have to get it out and dry it when I get home if there is a way to avoid it. Do you ever experience the condensation under the pads? Have you ever used the pad under the tent as they show it on tetons website? If so any difference? Love the videos 👍
@TheEmporiumOutdoors
@TheEmporiumOutdoors Жыл бұрын
Hi Brett - I don't think the pad is designed to go under the tent despite what is shown on the TETON website. The TETON pad I have found does seem to attract moisture, as it's a foam and cotton canvas construction. There is no moisture barrier protecting the foam, unlike an inflatable pad that has to be air tight. In a normal tent setup, you heat the pad and part of the ground beneath you with your body . This remains constant during the night. With a tent cot, you are heating the top of the pad but the bottom of the pad is exposed to the environment not just the ground. This means on very cold nights in the cot tent, the bottom of the pad can be much colder than the ground and cannot be heated as it's constantly re-chilled by air movement. I suspect this is why moisture is drawn into the mat, as it's evaporating from the lower side and pulling it in from the top side. Only a theory 😀

Hello Michael, I got the cot from teton been on the fence about the tent,and the big fly ,stay dryer. I had a thought I do like the Vista 2 size. Being a bigger guy. I’m in a similar predicament as the person above, I have the complete set up for the one person but would like the 2 person as I camp with my not so small dogs, 70 and 30 lbs, I have the XL cot that goes with the 1 person setting but I was thinking perhaps I could add the universal cot to complete the 2 P set. Looking at the measurements I’d have about 11” extra on the width and wondering if I could McGiver it to secure tent to cots regardless. Any thoughts/suggestions on the matter? I also have the shorter cot which is about 10” short on the length compared with the XL 🤔. Such dilema, I really want the 2P tent but I prefer not to spend $ on cots since I have cots coming out of my ears and running out of space in the shed. HELP!

How do you add an outside heat source?

You could use a diesel heater blowing warm air under the beds or use an electric blanket 👍

Hi Michael which sleeping bag do you recommend to sleep in at 20 degrees? I tend to get cold too easy.

Good question!! Depends on a few things - shape of the bag (mummy or square for more room - I find square are easier to keep warm), back packable or car camping and budget, low medium or high?

@@TangoCowabunga For the money the TETON FAHRENHEIT XXL -25ºF SLEEPING BAG @ $119.99USD is hard to beat (also canvas model for a little bit more). I've used this down to -20c and have been comfortable. The square sleeping bags allow you to move around so I find them warmer. If you can find a 2 or 3 layer similar bag - they are great, as you can wash the inner. 👍

Think it would work with any other cots? The Teton cot is pricy
@TheEmporiumOutdoors
@TheEmporiumOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
Just check the size of the cot against the TETON universal ones - 85.5" x 35.5". I think Cabelas sells the same cot but in brown and it's the same size. They are also on sale sometimes 👍

Hi James - I have the Mora Garberg with the multipoint sheath mounted on a Helikon-Tex SERE pouch. It's just convenient to use over a jacket 👍 I find having a fleece under the jacket makes it great for the colder temperatures, but can be used in summer without for warmer weather 👍

Inspired by your videos I now have the cot, the Teton cot pad and the vista tent. It’s really a great tent. At 47 degrees my back was very cold all night, so cold I kept waking up. Do you recommend any insulated pads to use with the Teton foam pad that might help keep my back warm?
@TheEmporiumOutdoors
@TheEmporiumOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
If you want an extra layer, I'd go with a closed cell sleeping mat under the TETON mat. It doesn't have to be expensive but will create a thermal barrier to help the TETON mat insulate better. An alternative is a sheet of reflectix - This is sold on Amazon or from auto spares stores as windshield sun protector or general insulation. I use this in my hammock setups when its cold - Hope that helps!

@@TheEmporiumOutdoors I used the DBL Bubble reflective foil insulation R Value of 8 in 50 degree weather and it worked wonders. Worked so well I now want to see how it does in 20-30 degree. Thanks for the Tip!

Thanks for mentioning you slept cold at 47° on the Teton mat. I would have thought it would be sufficient on its own. I'm trying to decide on the Teton 1 or 2, but regardless, if I'm expecting lower temps I'll bring something like the reflectix insulation to supplement the pad.

A cheap and fast answer is to get a large silve foldingr windshield reflector . Silver side up under your pad. The silver coating reflects body heat back to you. If it is really cold move it to just under your bag. Just make sure to remove any suction cups etc.

the extended fly should come with the cot....or Teton could make the other fly a cpl inches longer, instead of being so stingey with materials.......

The shorter rainfly comes with the tent should you be camping without the cot. Not everyone wants to carry the heavy cot and in this case 2. I love mine but I have to think about it when I use it in terms of weight and space. Honestly as much as I love it I find myself using it the least out of my other tents because of it, and sometimes I just bring the tent on its own.
@TheEmporiumOutdoors

Indeed that is correct with the shorter fly and I too have used it solo, however, the cot really makes the tent for me from a comfort point of view 👍 Thanks for the comment!

They all have to wait for their comfort, just like we do until we set up camp, no difference however they wouldn’t change a thing in order to go camping, at least not my dogs, perhaps that’s the difference between city dogs and the ones that aren’t, they love being in the forest sharing adventures with their people.
