My 3 ' long 3/4" drive breaker bar wouldn't begin to budge the 1 1/2" axle bolt. I don't have a high torque 1" drive air impact so I ended up using a torque multiplying heavy truck lug nut wrench which broke it loose easily. The chassis bolts on my 773 prevent the jacks from being positioned exactly 180 degrees across from each other against the hub flange. At first it wouldn't come loose after loading the bottle jacks and hitting the axle bolt with the sledge. The 2nd time I gave it a few whacks on the back side of the hub flange between the long gap in the jacks and it popped loose. I cleaned up the axle with some emery cloth. The other hub flange wouldn't come loose no matter how much force I put on the jacks or beat it with my sledge hammer. I finally put a large gear puller on it and torqued it as much as I could. Then I swung the sledge under the chassis below the engine and hit the back side of the hub flange with enough force to knock it loose.

2 things that helped me, the bottle jacks only worked with the handle on the bottom, and a pick and hook set was necessary to get the seals out. Great video; I couldn't have done it without it.

Sealant under the speedy sleeve. I've had more than one instance where the slightest gouge on a shaft caused a perpetual leak. Its hard to get a good look all the way around a shaft. I'll add sealant to the OD of the seal if I have ANY concerns. Lot's of guys operating like the bull in the china shop. Always a dinged up sealing surface somewhere.

Just did new seals and 100% that the repair sleeve is on backwards and no seam made to break off the flange. flange is meant to go against bearing. I mean this way worked, but definitely not the way on the bobcat instructions with kit. Would be worried about metal edge break the flange off and catching the seal at some point.
@tetradgroup Жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct, this is not how the sleeve is supposed to work but its also not designed for this type of shaft. Everyone I have seen has the outer flange with a seem and I have broken the flange piece off to the inside several times trying it the other way. Keeping the flange to the outside ensures the sleeve can be installed all the way on to the shaft without breaking.

@@tetradgroup thanks for the link to your video. My local Bobcat dealer quoted me 900 dollars per axle to replace the bearings and seals. 3600 dollars seemed a little steep. This would be a winter project so I wouldn't be rushed to get it done.

I have an 843 front wheel leaking badly, my guess is a wheel seal/bearing any suggestions.
@tetradgroup4 жыл бұрын
Axle seal for sure, raise machine and see if you have any in and out movement of the axle. If you have any play then it's time for bearings.

I see wear ring as in parts breakdown? Is that the speedy sleeve ? I have a rough surface where the seals roses as well so curious
@tetradgroup2 жыл бұрын
Yes the wear ring would be the sleeve.
@tetradgroup2 жыл бұрын
It's hard to tell, varies between machines, just not to tight however I run new tracks tighter than normal because they wear in quickly and will be perfect tension after a few hours of run time

Hi I have a 863 that has a axle seal leak as well. I have 3 bolts in my hub ,unlike yours that has 1 in the center. Is my axle similar? Was hoping I didnt have to open the chaincase to pull the axle. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Yes it works the same way but don't hit bolts with hammer. Try to hit hub from side once the jacks are installed.

Just curious how well this repair has held up?
@tetradgroup3 жыл бұрын
I've used this method for years and it holds up very well. Low oil or debris around axle hub like string and wire can damage the seal as well. The speedie sleeve can also be replaced easily.
@bassrigginsrigginsdevelopm85762 жыл бұрын
My axle is leaking and has about a little less than 1/4 inch play in and out, no play side to side. Do you think it will need bearings?
@tetradgroup2 жыл бұрын
The axle will preload the bearings when torqued down and any play in and out would suggest bearings are worn and should be replaced.

It looks like you tried the cheap Chinese blue seal then you went and bought the OEM after it failed. The perfect situation for the saying "cheap is expensive".

I'm gonna split the difference and go with Timken or SKF instead of the Bobcat seals, I definitely would stay away from Chinese or off brand seals though.

Hello, Just out of curiosity, did you drain the oil first? or jut the angle did the trick?
@tetradgroup4 жыл бұрын
I was jacked up enough so oil didn't drain out of the tube. It was actually low because of the leak. I added about a gallon of oil after seal was replaced.

Thank you so much for the info. I am wondering, because mine is on perfect level, so not sure- I wonder if it is getting refilled from the reservoir, which I have had to refilled a bit after I replaced the pintle arm seals, and the tilt cylinder seals.
@bobcat84393 жыл бұрын
Why couldn't u just put the seal in?
@tetradgroup3 жыл бұрын
Usually you can just replace the seal but sometimes the axle shaft is scared and will quickly damage a new seal if not fixed correctly.
