Back axle, down in foot square tunnel filled with oil, chains, and sprockets and your and using a mirror to see where you're welding. 🥺 And your welds still look perfect! 👏👏👏👏 I've seen BobCat techs torch 4x5 inch holes in the ends of that chain case for much easier access to internals. They would re-purpose a common transmission inspection cover plate by drilling & tapping holes in the thick metal chain case to make it a re-uasable access hole. 👍

Years ago I thought there was nothing worse to work on than forklifts. Then they invented skidsteers and mini-excavators. No room to do anything. Amazing that you even attempted this repair much less did it so well!

Do what you think is right and it will definitely be worth our time to look over your shoulder. Been welding for well over 50 years and even at 72 I still enjoy learning, the journey doesn't stop. The bent rod is interesting - my neighbour (who taught me to weld) worked in the shipyards - he had a small collection of mirrors for that type of work - he told me it was common place in ship repair. Cleaning the mirrors from soot was also common place! Great work!
