I remember the first time I saw someone build more than one barracks, or stable, in AOE2. I thought "Why would you build more than one barracks? You've already got one". I used to play AOE2 single player since 1999 and I would build one barracks, one archery range, and one stable, and produce all my units from there. Going online is just so different to how people play the game in single player. I love the Low ELO Legends series and these videos have taught all of us noobs out there a lot about how the game works. lol.

@@mqayyum9226 I built almost only TCs because back then, they did not cost stone. I also placed skirms in the ones closest to the enemy as a defense :D

Yep, I did the same thing 15 or so years ago. Then mass army, do damage, mass army again, attack again and repeat until AI dies. One archery, one barracks, one stable - and then cavalier, champion + skirm combo. I dropped farms as soon as I could at the start of the game, never lured boars. I remember when I discovered raiding, I started picking off enemy vills with my knights/cavaliers, but it took a long while.

@@user-bd1si1ru3x - Depends on the game and the situation. In something like Seven Kingdoms a RTS from 1997 more stuff beats less stuff is generally true since the game doesn't have any sort of population cap. On the other hand your soldiers in that game can level up like RPG characters as well so troops that have spent a long time on training in a fort under a general can achieve a combat rating of 100 which means they'll have a lot more HP and will do more DPS as well. So a smaller force of high level soldiers can wipe out a larger force of low level soldiers with ease. Though, I'll also admit Seven Kingdoms is a bit of a different beast from Starcraft and Age of Empires since you don't spend a bunch of your time on gathering resources in order to build stuff. Everything in the game costs gold which is earned through taxing your villagers which happens on a yearly basis, but can be increased by taxing them every time their loyalty reaches a certain level as well which is pretty much mandatory if you want to expand quickly at the start of a game.

There might be some issues accurately gauging skill at lower levels, I sit around 950 and it seems to me there is not just a maximum skill issue but an issue with consistent performance, I have both been destroyed by someone 100+ points lower than me and destroyed someone 100+ points above me just depending on how well we were both playing that day or match, how many serious mistakes I make throughout a game varies considerably, so there are definite cases where someone would appear much lower or higher in ability than they actually are - especially since I don't repetitively practice a certain strategy until I am actually good at it & tend to just pick a civ I want to play that day instead of one I know how to use somewhat correctly

@@codyscivally944 You are correct but this does not mean a series like this would not be interesting- in fact, your point might be what makes it even more interesting. Also, T90 could decide himself what kind of steps he wants to use while guessing. He does not need to land a perfect hit. ;)

As a kid i was confused and discouraged to play teutons cuz their unique unit uses long knives instead of cool 2-meter swords. And no horned helmets. I just was disappointed from heights of expectation of what i've already "knew" about teutons when i first time tried AoE2.

Teuton castles were amazing to stop hords of ai armies. With the range bonus, they even snipe bombard cannons and cannon galleons. Best turtle civ.

Heard the Starcraft question (around 11 minutes) and, as a mid-masters SC2 player, I figured I'd answer. Yes, starcraft does have defensive structures that can be loosely thought of as the equivalent to towers, although they're split between anti-air and anti-ground structures. You can't garrison workers in them to survive a raid, but you can't do that in your TC equivalent either. In Starcraft if your workers are exposed, they're gonna die. Period. Fortunately your first two bases should both have a chokepoint you can exploit to keep enemy units out of your eco. As for how common building towers are, like everything else in rts, it depends. In the low MMR (elo) leagues it's very common for players to ring their first two bases with anti-air structures, and then load up on defense at the chokepoint. It's basically the fatslob approach to starcraft, except the primary vulnerability is even more pronounced because in SC the economy runs dry a lot faster. It's virtually impossible to sit on 2 bases and trade efficiently enough to win against an opponent who took 6 or 7. In the middle tier, players can generally do at least enough scouting to figure out if they're being hit by a 1 or 2 base all-in. If you're trying to hold against that, building defensive structures is very common. Also, zerg players will sometimes throw down a spore (anti-air) in each mineral line. Doing so is inefficient, but zerg are more vulnerable to economic harassment via air units than the other two races. It's better to throw down a potentially unnecessary spore than to lose 20+ drones because you needed one and didn't have it. At the higher levels, static D is an extremely complex set of calculus. The rule of thumb is don't ever build it unless you're going to need it, but knowing when and where you need it, and how much you need is difficult to teach even a high-mid level player, much less to explain in the comments section of a youtube AOE2 vid.

For me SC2 is more dynamic due to faster units in general, smaller maps and lack of actual static defense (no equivalent of castles). So static defense is not that relevant in SC2 as it is in AoE2. Maybe in early game, or if massed in late (gas shortage mass-cannons). Or as a rush strat. I rarely see or use static defense in SC2 as some sort of territorial anchor. Most of the times it used to block choke points or to prevent early rush.

Trying to only kill one sheep at a time is tough, when 5 vills move on to the next sheep but one guy wasn't queued and walks off and kills a random sheep away from the TC. Once or twice I have just deleted the vill that did that in anger as punishment, in ranked maps too.

A thats what i do as well, since ive actually found that sometimes command queued vils will kill a random sheep if they cant properly path to it/are being blocked by other vils. Real frustrating

@@ethanpappas2502 teuton scouts are quite decent, better than many other light cavs and even hussars from other civs. They are fully upped, so archers dont eat them (they just have lower HP than hussar). And now they also have +2 melee armor. Pretty solid trash unit now.

I am 30 years old, played AoE2 a ton as a kid, now I only play ranked in DE a few times a week... but I always pick Teutons, because they have capes, and capes are epic. Also cheap farms are cool because I like farms and I'm not good at managing resources. But mostly capes.

SC2 player here. Each race has their own defensive structures, but the one they were talking about is the protoss Photon Cannon. Cannon rushing is the meme, aka pushing super early with a probe (protoss worker unit) to build a pylon (which provides power in an area to protoss buildings as well as supply) into the enemy's base and then building photon cannons around it to harass your opponent. It's basically the same thing as a TC/castle drop or the persian douche strat, a meme strategy that doesn't always work. Terrans and zerg have similar meme potential, with zerg hatchery rushes into spine crawlers (their defensive ground tower), and the terrans with Planetary Fortress rushes (aka building a proxy command center, lifting it and flying it right up to the opponent's base and then upgrading it with the Planetary Fortress upgrade that removes the lift off ability but gives it a powerful ranged attack)

In StarCraft Brood war: TvP Bunker is common for Terran, and you have to repair if you get Dragoon with range rushed. TvZ T needs turrets, usually 3-4 in their main base if the Zerg goes Mutalisks (flying unit), this is a common opening for Z agains T. P Cannons are common at bases, especially later bases. Z often needs spines at the natural or third base to stop aggression from T marine push, and early Zelots from P. It also takes Zerg a little longer to get going because of how they make buildings (using workers), and limited unit production (all units are made from the same pool of larva).

in Starcraft 2 the Terran had a sensor tower that could detect enemies a way out, but what they were exactly was hidden, you'd just see red dots. It was never used in high level play because it was more effective to just take a unit and scout what buildings and armies your enemy was producing

I love the scouts! So fun. I do the same thing ..... but with winged hussars Lithuanians. If the opponent makes halbs to counter I just make sure I have enough farms and stables. I have played games in Arena where all I do is spam hussars. No siege. No infantry. 60 on farms, 25 on wood, hoard all the gold, and about 30 stables do the job. It's fun watching my opponent freeze when they see that no matter how many hussars they kill more hussars are right behind them. 50 waves of hussars is exhausting. Then switching to 100% champions at the very end is the finishing touch. If I get castle dropped early I'm dead though. I need Imp and dozens of stables to make it work. So fun when it does.

For those curious, FU Scouts do exactly 1 damage to standard castles so Light Cav/Hussars do 3. With Masonry + Architecture that goes back down to 1 damage a hit. Even basic feudal age spearmen manage 2 damage a hit by comparison. TLDR: don't use scouts/light cav to kill castles.

well, only 4800 hits to destroy it - it's important to get the full surround though so that enemy villagers can't get in range to repair ist. Otherwise, you might attack that castle for a VERY long time 11

Does anyone else get annoyed when T90 is modest. You should be be modest, it's a great quality, but I think T90 should understand how much he does do for this community. There is something about the fact that you don't really care to be good at the game, but love to cast and it is what let's us feel the passion you have for this game. This is why so many people have fell in love with this game like they have, the passion that you have rubs off on people and this is why they thank you. You take something from people's nostalgic past, and add passion to it in 2020, it really does mean something to people. You have always liked the game like you have, so you don't see it, but you have given a lot of the player the passion to play this game like they never have before, and I wish you would actually see that, and feel better because of it; I think T90 deserves to feel better about himself for what he does for people, and I feel like he brushes the feelings off because he doesn't know how to accept them. Hey T90, I'd love to see a vid about what your hotkeys are! (yes, all of them) I started recently with ranked matches and I use default grid hotkeys but they feel somehow clunky from time to time. Also, there are a lot of hotkeys I didn't image existed like 'select all military buildings' or 'select all idle villagers' instead of just one. Are there specific ones which are very usefull or very useless? (top 10 most useless hotkeys? no?) Love to see it! And thanks for the epic vid's

I'm testing hotkey configurations and I think having hotkeys that allow u to select all x-type buildings can be a gamechanger. Imagine being able to create units and set gather points remotely, midraid even, without needing to go back to base or anything. Same for blacksmith or university upgrades. Beside those the group commands for unit groups are incredibly useful, although a bit hard to use

I've actually been rolling with teutons recently and they really aren't that bad. Lack of ligh cav hurts but your knights are strong, pikes + siege is great. Idk, there are better civs but they aint the worst!

There are 3 races in starcraft. With protoss, you can get cannon rush down to 1:56 or 1:36 I believe. Only works in low levels though.

My gaming history ! Checkers-chess-little army men game where it’s red vs blue guys like 1997/1998 on PC Then age of empires 1999 on the Emachine . Then Xbox came out - HALO was king for a few years....odyssey - Everquest 2003-2008 tribunal server !! Necromancers were my favorite folllowee by beast master .... still very solid achievement though. You can only improve from thereon and I am sure, you will eventually be able to get back to 1300 (if you aren't already) and even surpass it. The only two things you need for that are 1. determination and 2. fun while playing the game. :)

5:50 I think the LEL are rigged: I have meet non of the opponents who plays as bad at 800-900 ELO as the ones in this series 11 . How do you ever found them? (I am avare this one is lower ELO, I am talking about LEL in general). 7:35 11111111 Playing on unranked is even more frustrating - my first ever online game was unranked I my opponent was 1600 ELO. (I played this game since 2004, but only about year since I begin to play online, for multiple reasons, and only 2 years since I got the knowlege that such thing as the build orders exists 11 )

T90, I'm saying this out of as much love as possible because I love you. I think you should watch a few games with auto scout. Just play the AI and watch the auto scout do it's thing. I think you call any scouting in the t90LEL as auto scouting. This time when the blue scout died, that WAS auto scout. As a t90LEL I know that auto scout always runs the scout under the TC of the opponent after it scouts in a circle of your starting map. It also after scouting your own map (a bit) then it runs to the east corner usually and scouts from the East to the West.

Starcraft towers are relatively defensively, but mostly protos against zerg rushes or terran drops. Terran towers are anti air but they commonly push with bunkers, and zerg towers iirc dont see much most unless you're playing mass queen boom, with like +2 expos compared to oppo
