yes, the HC3 overlay was better but it is permanently broken, only worked so well because it was 1v1 and had less players to cover. The currently used overlay is only an early preview, but will be a permanent feature in the game because they work with microsoft now. T90 once said that the HC3 overlay looked pretty bad in early stages as well so give it some time.

This new overlay isn't very clear at all. Like you said it's very busy. And there are just random numbers floating without any explanation. The numbers at the bottom right corner don't align with the icons. And why the "fancy" icons instead of the more obvious symbols? Like why have skulls for K/D, why have weird sword coin symbol for val%, etc. And also, there's no quick way to see which team is which colors.

An overlay needs to be somewhat self explanatory to viewers, otherwise you only scare them away. I've probably seen 10+ games with this overlay and I still need to think twice about the meaning of most numbers.

I think many of those numbers would be good if you could access them on command, like when they are crucial to understand the dynamic of the game. But they shouldn't be there all the time, there should be a hotkey to view and hide them. They take this to a point where it gets confusing and you need a manual to understand what you are looking at. An overlay needs to be intuitively accessible, I am sure SOTL would love this for his AOE maths calculations, but the average viewer just gets overtaxed.

If you're finding it difficult, watch "spirit of the law" videos. He's a really good aoe 2 KZbinr who explains stuff with math. He has uploaded a lot of 'beginners guides' like what to do with your first 15 villagers.

Been playing since Age of Empires. The first one, where you start in the stone age, and rushing Egyptian chariot archers was hot meta. Anyway -- the sound bug where you hear things that happened in the past when you look at them has always been in the game. I distinctly remember sitting in the computer lab at the University of Minnesota (because I was a poor college student who couldn't afford a computer) and looking around the map post-game to hear all the sounds. It gave me a bizarre satisfaction, like popping bubble wrap.

What a game! I watched parts of Spain vs Argentina on twitch, but somehow missed this diamond. Thanks for bringing it to youtube, T90. :) I hope developers don't nerf ratan archers after this game. Because, I think, we don't often see them shine in competitive pro games. And I think it is good and reasonable from entertaining perspective to have something bright and strong in some specific situations. In the latest patch they already nerfed post-imperial indian camels and this set wasn't even played on a new patch. The same is with battle elephants. They nerfed battle elephant bonus against buildings despite the fact that it is already a situational unit and risky choice to go for. They are slow, expensive, vulnerable to monks and fast archers. And now it will be harder for players to justify going for them, because they will have become less effective for the purpose of breaking into enemy base.

I can say thats definitely the case for a while. I remember back on the UP days when I was playing something like Age of Chivalry, you could hear the "yow!" from dead units if you didn't see them die and you saw them over them. Only when they were very fresh corpses though, I think.

I love 2v2s. It's so much nicer to watch the closeness of a game. It's not just "Oh Viper or Hera just clapped some pleb" or "Oh Viper and Hera finals, this will be intense". It adds so much extra skill and thought and gameplay. Also I miss the Twitch chat

Gotta wonder if Elephant Archers might've been the better call against so many Rattan Archers. Yes, the Elephant Archers would do virtually no damage, but they'd have been a lot harder to bring down than Camels. Then again, Rams would probably be better for that job.

I don't know who will be the top 8 for HC4 for getting into the main event without qualification rounds. Obviously we have usual suspects like Viper, Hera, Liereyy, Mr Yo, MbL, TaToH; but after these 6 idk who'll get there. We can put TheMax there or Villese, then we have Nicov, and Dogao who played in the semis in HC3 or BacT, DauT had also performed good in the tournaments this year. I'm curious to see which 8 players will the top players pick for HC4 for automatic qualification.

@@cherdoful Rattan still run faster than normal Arb so they still take ton of damage at that fight if they try to escape. That on top of Fedex camel targer IS than Rattan, IS have more melee Armor and Hp than normal so take more time to deal with them end and let Elite Rattan who have 11 Attack free fire on the camel. When the melee attack down the Rattan basic unkillable.

I don't think the game was as over at that point as you think it was when TaToH got raided. He lost a few villagers and buildings there, but imo Monoz got hit even harder, losing so many villagers. Had he not been raided that badly, they might have won the game. Instead, they played on and didn't trade, slowly giving Spain the advantage.
