2:42 Arguably, the Soda Popper is better (or at least on par) with the scattergun. I can’t remember exactly, but I watched a video where a guy found that the Soda Popper and Scattergun had an overall similar DPS. The main downside of course is that the soda popper is a lot more punishing, but in my opinion the hype more than makes up for that.

I would say that is somewhat subjective. I don’t much like it since I prefer a large magazine, but I also know there’s reasons it’s banned in a lot of competitive games.

This is a great video. I've been collecting clips and gathering thoughts on my favorite underrated weapon, the Loch-N-Load, and have been wanting to make a video in the same vein as this for a few months now. You do a great job getting your point across effectively, which is something I've been struggling with for my thesis script. THANK YOU the bfb is a fantastic weapon to piss off meta Andy's when you pop off with it. I personally like using mad milk with the bfb because if you land all your shots you can be super aggressive with the bfb while not worrying about losing boost

I’m not a mad milk guy myself, mostly because I like to have a backup damage source. If my magazine runs dry, reloading mid fight is sometimes a very bad thing. And 4 is not a high capacity.

​​@@indigomerFunny enough the Mad milk is considered Scouts best Secondary if you're running the Baby Faces... at least to everyone I talked to who uses it including myself lmao The bleed from the cleaver is really good, just that the extra healing from the Mad milk basically guarantees those kills for you and allows you to keep the boost, keep fighting with the boost and even support your team. Add this on top of the boost helping you close the distance and do more damage overall, it makes sense why some players prefer the milk. For some timestamps on when those moments milk can be useful 5:36 + 6:20 Demo hitting you with a pipe/ The demo sticky spamming, with mad milk, could have tanked the first pipe or have been more aggressive against that second demo 9:00 Medic and his team, you could easily kill them all even with that low of health by just throwing a mad milk and sustaining yourself 11:05 Heavy rev'd up and you couldn't juke him enough. The mad milk would have been a lot easier to use against him + survive the reload period. And this isn't including things like 1v1 fights against other Scouts, soldiers, etc or being caught off guard and coming out alive because of the milk. Healing is so strong and 20 seconds is a pretty quick time all things considered. Though I do agree, that *magazine size* penalty can be punishing and it can still get you killed even with the milk, you just tends to survive a lot more consistently and at worst still helps your team. It's also why even Bonk is useful. Although it's mainly for sentries, medics and even Pyros if you are desperate (another reason why milk is so good, but I mever had issues with pyros lmao)

The manmelter is extremely underrated, though i do ultimately prefer the detonator for its crowd control, the ability to turn support into on demand 90 damage is absolutely incredible, especially if you're like me and either can't hit two direct flares in a row or like using the phlog

If you ask me the Backscatter isn't painfully average the less accuracy makes it so that you hit shots more often I found in practice and as long as you're good at movement you should be able to hit at least one mini crit each fight which will make up for any loss damage you get from the more spread the times I've done extremely well as Scout are the time that I use the Backscatter Also I agree the Babyface isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be

@@nateno8965 I consider back scatter to be average because of its bad design. It can definitely be used to great effect, I have seen it done. But gameplay wise, it’s really identical to stock. It’s sort of like comparing stock shotgun to the panic attack, the gameplay is more or less the same. It’s stock but slightly worse, and of any of the scatterguns I think it needs a rework the most.

​ @indigomer I personally find it to provoke more of an aggressive playstyle than stock because I know that I can usually get the bigger classes out with 2-3 mini crits and even then 1 or 2 should leave them low enough for a meatshot also to make up for the ammo penalty I personally carry stock pistol and that makes up for it more than enough Also to be honest it seems like we only agree upon the Babyface cuz I even find the panic attack to be better than stock because it has a consistent spread in casual and because of the switch speed it makes it easier for me to switch to a second weapon which is just a main part of my play style

@@nateno8965to respond to your comment on the panic attack, I do know there is a difference because of the spread. I too subscribe to Uncle Dane. But in my experience the difference is negligible, and in very few instances will it change the outcome of a matchup. The aim skill of the user makes a considerably greater difference than the fixed spread versus the random spread. At least from what I have seen. It’s the same story with me for the backscatter. My ability to aim in the moment has a greater effect on the outcome than the little differences in the damage. In most cases where backscatter would benefit me, stock does just about the same thing. And I prefer the larger magazine as I have said before. But I should also say, I like that we can respectfully disagree and recognize that our styles and experiences bring us to different results and opinions. And I also appreciate that some people do actually use the backscatter. That just further supports my view that all the scout primaries are underrated, even if stock is best all around the unlocks deserve more love.

I think a lot of the disdain for this weapon also comes from it's balance history, where it was absolutely godlike when it came out and didn't have that "damage taken reduces boost" attribute. To me it's just alright. I think if they either took out or at least reduced the boost loss from double jump, I'd use it a lot more.

@@indigomer The issue there is that, as you say, the lowered speed doesn't really matter too much, so - with the boost - the gun would be basically an upgrade if it didn't have a smaller clip size. Like I guess I wouldn't mind having 5 shots instead of 4 as the buff, but I think honestly just letting the scout double jump again would be more than enough to make it much more viable for people to use. Double jump is integral to fighting the explosive classes so giving that ability back without a downside helps a lot.

⁠@@TheRedKing247well I do think, judging just off what you said, a bit of a misunderstanding. Because you absolutely can double jump. What you *can’t* do is mindlessly slam the jump key and spend more time in the air than on the floor. Actually in post the thought came to me, as to why both BFB and FaN get a lot of hate from people. Because a lot of people, from what I have been told, like to play Scout for the purpose of being a mosquito who double jumps constantly. With both BFB and FaN, you can’t do that, your jumps have to be timed. And for the people who prefer to just hop around to their heart’s content, stock or soda popper is better.

@@indigomer Bruh I'm well aware you can still double jump. Thing is that the amount of boost you lose is enough to make people just not ever try and double jump. That effectively means you aren't gonna double jump unless you need to which for most people isn't often, making it effectively a restriction. Getting rid of that restriction would free up the weapon a lot and make playing with it more fun because double jumping is fun and feels skillful when you use it well. You're absolutely right that to an extent this is a mindset thing, but I'm not fucking relearning how to play scout just to be able to use one half-decent weapon thanks. The fact you have to actively relearn how to use your double jumps can really be considered a downside as well considering how important double jumping is to scouts ability to dodge damage.

Which is what is needed to use it effectively. And if you don’t want to do all that, then you’re fine to stick with the stock scattergun. There is a reason people like it.

Cool video, always wanted for someone to articulate that 0 boost is not that bad and the fact that you can get to default speed by doing 25 damage (aka two pistol shots), also double jump will also put you at default scout speed so you can double jump once without any speed nerf compared to stock

@@LinkDing uh, no? If it were fed individual cartridges it would be a single shot. It’s a repeating shotgun with a capacity of 3+1. It has a fixed drum magazine which because of Tf2 logic you never load new cartridges into, but it is still a magazine. It is just fixed. Much like the bolt action rifles at the turn of the 20th century.

I feel like I should clarify. A magazine is a group of parts on a firearm containing a spring and a follower which are designed to both hold ammunition at the ready for a repeating firearm and to feed it as the action cycles. Scout’s “lever action” primaries all follow this principle, even if the animations make no logical sense. The ones without magazines are the FaN, soda popper and short stop. All of these are break action, breach loading shotguns which have neither magazines nor clips.

BFB is great fun in pugs. I feel like the reason it gets such a bad rep is because from a competitive perspective it's definitely worse than stock. 2 less ammo and it gimps your strongest movement option. That said though, the competitive playbase still bans the base jumper despite it being nerfed into the ground. Sooooo. Who cares about their opinions.

But the reason to use it is for the fun factor. Running around at mach 4 is ridiculously fun, and if you ask me is totally worth using. In the macro view, it does fill the same role as stock so if that’s how you determine good from bad then I can certainly see you disliking it.

I may or may not have subscribed just for you fixing the weapon’s stats. These pistols (and cleaners carbine) are clearly magazine fed, why is the stats page calling it clip reduction? “Clip” size penalty on the shotguns/ loch n load? These are tube fed weapons, who’s calling these “clips”? I think the only “clip” fed weapon is medic’s syringe guns, even then I’m mentally debating if they’re drum fed weapons. I’ll admit the rocket launchers have me stumped. By all accounts, it makes no sense.
