I've been playing TF2 with a Intel Pentium CPU since 2014 and I'm still stuck with it today. FPS Configs have always been a huge part of my TF2 experience. It pretty much forced me to learn more about how the Source engine works, what settings eat the most frames and which commands work best for me. I'm actually kinda glad that I experienced that, because it definitely contributed to the development of my patience when it comes to fixing any computer or game related errors or performance issues. Without that experience, I'd probably be just one of those people who give up really quickly or don't even try when it comes to fixing this kind of stuff.

The way I see it, tf2 needs to update to source 2 at some point to fix these engine problems and there's only one way that would work, but it's in theory. Source 2 needs support for source 1; a sort of plugin that allows it to important source 1 assets, models and coding that it can then build on itself. This would reduce the stress of moving it over with minimal bugs and errors; pretty much like moving your office into a bigger version of itself that's just as compatible. Problem here? It's that very thing, the source 1 support plugin. It needs to be made; which means developers needs to code it out, test it and keep working on it to make sure it fully supports older games; which takes time and dedication, but likely what valve would do. Because this wouldn't just support source 2 for tf2, it would be support for ALL valve games to move from source 1 to source 2; which is far better in the long run.
@IllllIIllllI5 жыл бұрын
Tf2 will never get the resources needed for a source 2 port
@WakoDoodle5 жыл бұрын
@@IllllIIllllI A source 1 port/plugin for source 2 isn't just for tf2 but all older games. For valve, it would be an valuable option as it lets me make HD updates of older games if they want (rereleases) and also allows porting assets and ocde over from older games; to speed production of future games. Example: Portal 3, well better start from scratch coding everything again. Or with the plugin, just copy over portal 2 and then build a portal 3 using portal 2 as a basis in source 2. The 3rd benefit is the coolest. V.R. uses source 2. So this would allow experimental builds of older games using v.r. by valve. Considering they're working on their own v.r. this would be a great use to them; just remake the orange box with v.r. support and package it with their v.r. headset. Instant rewards. The problem? Making such a plugin/port itself for source 2. It would take with a full team (approx) 4-6 years which I doubt valve have. Unless they're already doing it...
@IllllIIllllI5 жыл бұрын
Possibly the biggest problem is the spagetti mess that they call code. All the weird netcode and core stuff can not just be cleaned up by a program. It needs human work
@WakoDoodle5 жыл бұрын
@@IllllIIllllI Yeah it's incredibly unlikely they will do such a thing; due to needing a big team. Which valve's inner-workings is "pick a game you like, work for that" which isn't going to get more than artifact made and even then; that game isn't doing great.
@WakoDoodle5 жыл бұрын
@Mikhail Mikhailov I'm no expect; but I understand that making games is difficult and that game engine used has certain limitations. Unless they are enhanced (like plugins) or upgraded (like source 2). In fact many of the games I've worked on are severely limited by their engine to point. I didn't really expect a lot of upvotes though, I just wanted to state my thoughts on how valve could help keep older games alive, while being affordable in terms of time and work; considering a full port to source 2 for all the games would take a while and I wondered what others thought about the situation as a whole. It's not about the upvotes or how many agree with me, but rather what we can do to help keep our favourite games alive and what valve could do to keep support for them; beyond the most conventional means of course (like hiring more people). Brainstorming ways to help players thrive in the game they enjoy. I'm welcome to any ideas and those willing to point out my idea's problems and possible solutions to them. It's why the tf2 fanbase is so cool, we work together as a team... (looks as people dancing) most of the time.

But I still enjoy the game. I still to this day remember all these maps by heart, and regardless of how long I have this bad hardware I will still continue to enjoy the game I know and love. It means a lot to me that even though I have 10 frames, no visibility, and almost no way to communicate. I can still be a part of a community I've enjoyed for years. It always brings a smile to my face seeing what's new with the community servers, or the updates provided by valve themselves. Tf2 is truly an immortal game in some peoples eyes and by god I'm one of them.

For me. I got things that help my framerate, due to Delfy's video. For me, and it didn't happen at the beginning of my time playing TF2 (which I think is like end of 2021 October...?), is my ping basically having bipolar disorder in VALVe servers. I would go into a server that had me at around 50 ping whilst not battling at all, but then I battle and it goes over 300. And it is my ping because I turn net_graph on and it shows my ping going up really freaking quick. But on community servers WITH 100 PEOPLE... My ping is FINE?? It doesn't fluctuate, my FPS will a little bit, but my ping maybe goes up by like 10 or so. And keep in mind. This is on 100 player servers, but my ping on official VALVe servers that supposedly are near my region can't give me a consistent 50 ping unless if I don't play the game for a month or two.

With the low specs needed for games like TF2, I want someone to make a game engine with this in mind. Make it so the games are these low graphics but yet extremely impressive with the OpenGL support for higher lighting and effects. Imagine taking the code of Doom with a list of numbers for random based on time rather than equations and the delayed movement of npc's for performance from far less updates. Taking the graphics and effects of Source and games before 2010 and then taking all that and scale it up. 100v100 on 5 square kilometer maps on average pc's with steady 60 FPS and modding opportunity like Doom wads downloading the whole mod for you, with mods for much higher demanding graphics if you want.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the reason TF2 today is much more different than TF2 from 2007 is because of the increased polygon count on TF2 models. Hats also increase the polygon count in characters too. In addition, this game is poorly optimized for the CPU, only using 1 core even though multi-threading is on along with the -threads launch option. Since this game is only utilizing 1 core, it's better to get an i7-9700k than a Ryzen 7 2700X in this situation since Intel outperforms AMD at single-core performance currently. I had a GT 635 with an i7-4770 (it was prebuilt from Dell) and TF2 ran horribly even though I had a good CPU. I upgraded to a GTX 1050 Ti (was going to get a 1060 unfortunately there was an issue with cryptocurrency raising the gpu prices) and I haven't had a single issue since I upgraded the GPU running more than 144 fps. I decided to upgrade my CPU to a Ryzen 7 2700X because I do content creation as well. Now since I can reach framerates above 60 fps, I'm considering on getting a 144hz monitor. I don't care if anybody says thats a poor choice to pair that CPU and GPU together but the GTX 1050 Ti is sufficient enough to meet my standards (I play on low settings for a competitive advantage, but I play on near-max settings on TF2).

where does rhapsody config fit into this cfg storyline? it introduced a wizard - esque thing for customization(in game), whichis kinda like mastercomfig 7 IMO. If there was another config that did this before rhapsody's cfg, then please let me know.

I play all my games on a laptop that has a cheapo pentium processor. All of my games. On a toaster. Everything is crispy.

I still use comanglias frames config. I have one of those fancy hyperthreading i7s, a 1070, 16 gigs ram, and a sturdy ssd and the game still runs like chopped shit on 32 player servers and certain maps and stuff if I go stock settings. It's harder to run than modern warfare at least for me lol.

I have a overclocked 1070 + i7 + hyperX 16gb and even then the game goes down, less then 60, some times, i dont use any configs, but im a guy that likes nice, polish, textures, wat should i try to make my game run better and not destroyng the beauty of the game?

I have the same specs, it drops below 60 for me too. This game is fucked.
@BeatCrazey5 жыл бұрын
You can't do anything about it. The game itself doesn't utilize your PC's resources properly.

I remember when I started playing TF2 on my old shitty laptop. I now have a Ryzen 7 2700X, a GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB of RAM, and an M.2 SSD My FPS still struggles to get a stable framerate with default settings because they are just that fucking bad

The Geforce Now thing does WONDERS for tf2 I can play with nice graphics and high frames problem is the waiting list (took me bout 3 months to get it) and the internet but if you got good internet you are set

I believe a slower RPM drive might increase latency for getting files? Either way my 5200RPM drive is faster than most of my laptop drives by quite a bit and I use to play TF2 on them without any stuttering issues...

For the three years of tf2 I still use a LAPTOP that has a dual core that only runs at 2.2 ghz Intel HD 5500 graphics it's really sad like I wish I could record but running tf2 is about the only thing I can with it.

I remember playing TF2 on a PC that used Windows Vista, it wasn’t great... Then I got a $200 HP Stream, also wasn’t great... I’ve yet to get a new PC, but in time I shall feel the glory of playing TF2 on a PC that can support it better

I kinda want to try using a config, but at the same time I don't want to, because my GPU goes into it's power saving mode even on default low settings, and I literally get a higher frame rate on ultra settings than on the lowest.

If you want epic fps use these launch options: -safe -soft -high -noipx -nojoy

bruh I have an 8 core processer 16 threads and a rtx 2080 super and my average frames all on low settings are like 80-100 but mainly 80 so idk wtf is going on with tf2 but every other game I play like metro exodos is super smooth at 90+ on ultra, I have done everthing possible to get higher fps so tf2 is truly the most graphicly demanding game of our time god bless.

I love having a good gaming PC, but as soon as I go to a casual match having it drop down to 60 or less. And masterconfig doesent help me sadly.

I am convinced my family bought our laptop at the dollar store. I had it factory reset with tf2 on lowest settings and I ran at 30 fps. THIRTY FPS with a factory reset computer.

I am confused. I ran TF2 on my First Xeon E5450 with a Smooth 60 in 2014. Never had any issues with frames or stutters while running Medium to high graphical settings. I think we are at that point where FPS configs are pointless unless you have a potato or are a hardcore gamer and want these extra frames. My verdict. Obsolete. EDIT: Huge core count CPUs dont benefit you at all btw. High clockspeed and high IPC (Instructions per Cycle) are very important for TF2.
