The Welrod (and all the other Wel- toys of the SOE) was named after Welwyn Garden City, exactly the kind of dull commuter town favoured for WWII secret research. The US had the Manhattan Project, the Brits relied on underfunded nutty engineers in country manors. When I was a young Army officer in the UK in the late 80s we had a great day being shown a load of these things. Self-inflating boats (forerunners of many life-rafts) were a real crowd-pleaser. IMO, the video did seem to show manual bolt action and no clear slide, but the smoke is odd. It's hard to tell when it escapes, and how much is steam on a cold morning. Timely upload.

The shooter did not use a B&T Station six. Just a semi auto with a silencer. He had a malfunction every shot which caused him to have to clear it between shots. He likely practiced without the silencer or practiced without subsonic ammunition. The additional weight of the silencer on the end of the barrel or lower discharge pressure of the subsonic ammunition prevented the weapon from cycling. I also suspect he was using a 3D printed lower and 3d printed silencer. He planned the attack and his escape. So why not take the time to also make an untraceable firearm? There are several variations of a Glock upper with 3D printer lower on the internet and 3D printed silencer plans are available as well.

@NoPastNoFateАй бұрын
@ the detectives are not the ones claiming it is some rare firearm that only has 500 known to exist in America or a vet gun. Both of those firearms are recocked by grabbing a cocking rod in the back of the weapon. In the image this shoot racked a slide.
@tPsychedelicАй бұрын
Your wrong. Gun was clearly integrally suppressed bolt action handgun. Why would he inscribe messages on each bullet. The casing ejected from gun were spent shell casing not live ammo disproving the gun jam theory.
@NoPastNoFateАй бұрын
@ wrong and you clearly know little about firearms. If a semi automatic fails to fully cycle the next round won’t be in the chamber and racking the slide will not eject a live round. In fact what often happens is the previous round does not fully eject. It is possible you will end up with a double feed. With the casing not fully ejecting and the next round not fully seated in the chamber. This can take a few tries to clear and can eject a live round in the process. But a normal failure to cycle often just leaves an unejrcted casing in the chamber. A misfire will cause a live round to be ejected. A misfire is different than the failure to cycle caused by the additional weight of a silencer on the barrel of a weapon. Suppressors as weight to the end of the pistol and this weight prevents the weapon from fully cycling if the suppressor is not specifically designed for the weapon. Additionally, the two variations of weapons you and the police suspect it is has a cocking mechanism on the back of the weapon. It does not have a slide. In the video you can clearly see him grasp and rack a slide. This is almost certainly a Glock with a 3d printed or home made silencer. It might even be a 3d printed Glock lower.

I don't know if you cover this since I only watched the beginning, but I knew an operative who used a Welrod in WW II behind enemy lines & he showed me his & demonstrated it many years ago. The proper way to shoot it was to fire it, put your left hand over the ejector port on the top & manipulate the bolt with the right hand. That way, you caught the ejected shell with your left hand & stuck it in your pocket, both to prevent the noise of a shell hitting ground & to allow you to retain the shell so you didn't have to worry about policing your brass. That was the entire point of engineering it with the ejector port on the top of the gun. In all of the videos I've seen of today's "experts," they retain their firing grip with the right hand, turn & pull the bolt with their left hand & let the shell fall where it may, possibly making a clank that might alert the victim if the first shot was not a kill shot or alert potential witnesses & leaving a clue for later investigators. The rounds with the words on them were unfired rounds as far as I could tell from the news, and 3 other fired shells were found at the scene. I think the gun did NOT jam, but he was firing 3 rounds at Mr Thompson and hand-racking the slide to eject 3 more unfired rounds where he had written the words - making it look either like a Welrod type gun or a gun stove-piping & being cleared, but being neither. I suspect the autopsy found either standard 9 or 10 mm bullets, 3 empty shells & 3 unfired shells ejected by manually racking the slide 3 more times, fired from a commonly available stacked-mag semi-auto with a screw-on suppressor. The film was grainy, but it looked to me like the suppressor was NOT integral.
@PancakesRevenge22 күн бұрын
I was waiting for someone to bring this up. The design is perfect for policing your brass rather than just dumping it out. Taking a suppressed pistol that breaks down in a way that makes it easier to conceal and doesn't automatically eject spent rounds and then dumping the brass out onto the ground is just confusing even though I know they're just at the range.

My issue with wax wipes wearing out so fast was solved when someone showed how to make your own and replace, vs buying ones from B&T as another ATF controlled item to struggle with (think doing a “repair” that required forms to move it to an FFL/SOT to receive the plugs and replace before handing it back to you). Think I’ll keep mine now, but also order the B&T “trainer” suppressor, which has normal baffles and not the wax plugs. Not as quiet for sure, but you can choose. You don’t want to shoot this item often because even though it has a great history, the action is pretty bad.😢

In energy terms and increase in 3 dB(A) is a doubling of energy and 10 dB(A) difference gives a perception of the noise being twice as loud.

Hi James! It would be intresting to try a technique the Mossad used on the Beretta 72 on the Sector Six. Flood the chamber and barrel of the gun with a srynge and tape the end of the firearm with some duct tape. Should make a very quiet shot.
@immikeurnotАй бұрын
IIRC, you only want to use about a teaspoon of liquid, max. Too much liquid can damage the firearm and/or suppressor. And not all suppressors are designed to be run wet. Check your owner's manual or contact your manufacturer to see if it's OK on your particular suppressor. But yes, adding a little water/oil/silicone grease does help, especially at reducing first round pop in baffled suppressors. I haven't tried it, but apparently disassembling the can and smearing the goo they use for ultrasounds all over the baffles works really well.

Why didn't B&T incorporate baffles into the gun instead of just relying on wipes? Yes, the gun will be longer but would the inclusion of baffles further reduce the noise?

What do you think of the 9mm vs .45acp version of this?
@MikeBobby-l7oАй бұрын
I'm a 9mm guy but for suppressed work it's hard to argue with .45 for that extra grain weight, it's usually worth going up in size for suppressed guns, because you can't increase velocity, but you can increase mass while keeping the velocity the same for subsonic.

I think the Robin Hood killer used a home made suppressor. First shot hit the guy's calf indicating a baffle strike. Second shot hit well.
@jonosterman2878Ай бұрын
I thought the first shot was the fatal shot to his back? Certainly looks like he’s hit in the back on that one. But the footage sucks so who knows

Does cutting the grip make an AOW (pen gun) since it will fire without the hand thing that goes down?
