I think this is an overdue area of improvement in suspension. LR has been notorious for failed air bags but then again they have also pushed the envelop on development of these suspension systems. What I like about this solution is it’s modular and user fixable/ field serviceable with a schrader valves if the pump fails, etc. IMHO that’s how air suspension should be done. Where LR failed and still fails is making these systems as critical failure points and non user/ field serviceable
@DrivenHard
@DrivenHard Жыл бұрын
Which modern LR product is having air suspension issues now? Yes their earlier models had those issues for sure, but that is what you get when you are one of the first to the markets with new tech.

@@DrivenHard yes. That’s the point I was making about LR being trend setters. The modern LR air suspensions might not have issues but they are still non user serviceable/ non field fixable critical points of failure

That is one of the coolest things I've seen for Jeeps/Off-roaders in a long time. Very polished and professional info delivery by the gentleman representing the company too. I don't own a Wrangler or Bronco yet but if and when I do, I almost see this as a "must-have" and wonder how long it will be before the tech comes standard on these kinds of vehicles.

I'm most curious about on road driving characteristics and how it handles crosswinds. Hope you cover that in the coming videos.
@RobbDzzz
@RobbDzzz Жыл бұрын
Generally they work as good if not better than their coil/leaf spring counterpart. The pressure in each bag is variable, as it’s holding a position sensor driven ride height, so if a cross wind causes it to lean the sensor would call one side low and add air. Passed that it’s just a spring, so the dampers would play a significant role in cross winds.

Currently have a 2010 Ram 3500 with airbags on all 4 corners and Accuair management and still love it! My concern would be the inherent moisture that compressing air produces , does it have an air dryer that removes it ? Bad things happen when the temperature goes below freezing . or do you have to drain the tank daily .

That is a very cool and well thought out product. Even the control and app look great. It's too bad Jeep or Ford haven't come up with something like this for the Wrangler, Gladiator or Bronco. It is a great solution which allows for good road handling (lower CG and wind resistance) and also great off the road handling.

AIR SUSPENSION IS THE KING. My 2000 Lexus LX 470 has 250,000 miles on it and with routine maintenance every 10 years swapping fluid, still works great. It has never had an issue other than when Toyota shipped contaminated fluid to dealers. The only problem with AHC is that all Toyota technicians and almost all Lexus technicians will refuse to service it because they don't have experience with it.

I would not be put off by 4x4 air suspension at all, provided this is a well engineered product. When my family started to move its heavy trucks to air suspension we were initially skeptical and worried that we would get loads of problems particularly as we only had a rudimentary workshop on site. Fifteen years later air suspension gives way less trouble than mechanical springs when operated at max weight and is usually quicker to fix provided its not an ECU issue. Most air leaks can be fixed in a few minutes and changing an airbag is way lighter work than a truck spring and can sometimes be done beside the road. Bags are quite difficult to damage as well. 👍

For me, this Air Suspension System for the Unlimited Wranglers (and Gladiators) could be a game changer. Until now, I would not have considered a Wrangler, despite their offroad prowess, especially when properly lifted and kitted out. I have owned since new a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Diesel (83K mi so far), w/ Off-Road Adventure II Pkg, LOTS of added bash plates (Chief Products and Mopar Rock-sliders). It has the factory Air Suspension, which is OK, but somewhat temperamental, and it is quite "stiff-legged," especially in the "Offroad II" setting (almost 12" of ground clearance with Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs I am running) which I use frequently at my place in northern Michigan, 2-1/2 hour highway miles away, where I hunt and fish. I also do some occasional towing, and take a few trips each year throughout Michigan's Upper Peninsula. What sold me on the Grand Cherokee vs. an Unlimited Wrangler at the time (2015) was the factory Air Suspension system in the Grand Cherokee, its the better highway ride, not to mention a little more cargo space (having come from a slightly lifted '04 Chevy Tahoe Z71, which I had bought new and completely wore out). I would consider putting the new AccuAir Suspension system on a Willys Unlimited Wrangler (with rear locker). I'm not a rock crawler, but do contend with lots of mud and deep ruts, usually running solo, so I'm thinking that AccuAir-sprung Willys Unlimited just might be the sweet spot for me (or perhaps a Gladiator?).

Every manufacturer that installed air suspensions has had expensive issues. It gets even more expensive once the car is out of warranty. That's why there is a robust market for coil over replacements for so many models. Then there is the durability of the air coils once they dirt, grit, rocks and other crap coating the rubber bags.

So for us more rare guys with a JK that want to do an engine swap, I wonder if they are able to accommodate that. Would be really cool if they can. My biggest interest is on pavement driving characteristics. It's one of the most challenging things for a lift to get the right balance of ride and comfort on-road vs. the capabilities off-road. We have to get to the places we want to go off-roading and don't want a jarring ride that can shake fillings out. That really diminishes the benefit off-road since it is rare the Jeep is always used in that capacity. Also, curious to how it adapts to different size tires. If I want to run 35" tires (based on it being a 3.5 inch lift I would) how will it handle that vs. 33's or even going up to 37's. Lastly, it was mentioned new control arms and track bars. If you already have adjustable ones, is that really an expense you need to make? I get needing the adjustability, but if you have already made that investment, can you keep the components you have and just go with the airbags and compressor. Lots of questions, but not in the sense of tearing the product down but better understanding it and what to expect. Air systems have already proven themselves just on some military vehicles and I am genuinely curious about this one. It may change my whole long -term direction for my JK.
@Rodag001
@Rodag001 Жыл бұрын
So at 3.5" of lift height, how large a tire can you run and still be able to drive if the bags lose air? If you go to a larger tire (due to new lift height) and you lose air, is the Jeep now pushing the tires into the top of the fenders?

I had more than one Land Rover product that sagged on its air springs virtually from day 1. Not saying that will be an issue here. I have had (and currently have) other vehicles with air suspensions that have had 0 issues, so I know these suspensions can be amazing when they work correctly. I’m kind of wondering about why the system goes into manual mode below 25mph? It would seem a auto level mode at those speeds might be useful off road. Trying to manually adjust the suspension by individual corner would seem very difficult when moving. I can imagine that this could fantastic if it’s actually reliable and not too complicated to operate.
