I’ve had my SEL R line Black with brown interior for several months and it’s an amazing daily car traveling between my accounts. I get around 30mpg with my daily driving in South FL traffic. Plenty of power, tons of room, all the modern tech options and have only seen three other ones on the road. This car will look modern for years. Anyone that I’ve driven in my car falls in Love! I bought the same trim in black back in January. I got it for around $41,000 bc of slow sales and it not being the color I originally wanted. The update was very much needed and feels solid. It’s a niche car and I was comfortable paying for that “exclusive” look and feel. I really feel like once you get going the car has pretty great power even without the dsg and vr6. They would be great to have but above all the car is mostly for comfort. I do wish I would’ve waited for the dsg coming in the 2022 but there’s something so good about hearing “that’s a nice car” whenever I park somewhere lol.

No doubt this is a great car. I love the hatch feature and the styling is much better then a Passat. I wound up buying a used R-Line Passat however because the value of it was most important in my decision. The price of the Arteon, even the used ones, just didn't provide that value that I needed for a third vehicle. If it was my only vehicle, the Arteon R-Line AWD would be a top choice. Overall I like my Urano Grey R-Line Passat with its tinted windows and 19" wheels which has just enough of the modern features we all get accustomed to.

The good news is that dealers, at least in the Pacific Northwest, have been discounting the mid-trim SEL Arteon by up to $6000. That reduces the price of the AWD version to that of a top trim, loaded Accord or Camry. (i.e. around $39K to $40K). The bad news, at least within 500 miles of Seattle, is that almost every one has already been sold. Autotrader says there are 8 available in that radius and about 300 in the entire US. (The SEL Premium that Nathan drove offers very little more than the SEL for another $3K or more. Autotrader says there are only about 75 Premium versions in the entire US.) And according to my VW dealer (one of the largest in the PNW), there won't be any more available for the remainder of the 2021 model year due to the chip shortage.) Nathan mentions several Arteon competitors but he fails to mention the most obvious rival, the KIA GT-Line Stinger with the new 2.5L turbo 4 that KIA, Hyundai, and Genesis are putting in (by my count) at least 9 separate vehicles. With about 300 HP the Stinger is quicker than the VW and also offers AWD, a similar liftback design (with a bit less interior space) at about the same price as the discounted SEL Arteon. And unlike the VW, Stingers are considerably easier to find. The KIA K5 GT that Nathan does mention can be had for an MSRP several thousand dollars less but without the availability of AWD and a considerably less premium interior than either the Stinger or the Arteon. KIA's failure to offer at least an LSD (electronic or mechanical) in the FWD K5 is a major fail and takes it out of the same class as either the Stinger or the Arteon. And ironically, the K5 GT is even more difficult to find than the Arteon. (Autotrader says there are only 25 K5 GTs available in the entire US.) But wait. There's more potentially good news. My local VW dealer tells me that the US version of the 2022 Arteon will come with more power than the 2021 model. It's likely to match the European version with over 300 HP. Even better, the 8 speed conventional torque converter transmission the the US has received will be dropped in favor of VW's excellent DSG (dual clutch) that has been standard in Europe since the Arteon's introduction there. If you're like me and prefer the Arteon over the (excellent in its own right) GT-Line Stinger, you'll be waiting for the 2022 model and be grateful that VW will continue to send it to the US despite slow sales. In the meantime I picked up a 2012 VW CC (the Arteon's predecessor) with only 44K miles on the clock. I paid a bargain price from an owner who had treated it like his first born. It's no Arteon, of course, but it's a rare MT version I'm using to teach my 17 y/o daughter how to drive a stick and it's gorgeous and quick. She's likely to inherit either the CC or my DSG equipped GTI when the 2022 Arteon appears.

@dannoyes44933 жыл бұрын
@@nsbioy I understand completely but, insofar as the general shift to electric cars is concerned, I call bullshit... its a government mandated novelty. Why? Batteries and the electrical grid. Presently, there are rolling brownouts merely because people run their home air conditioners! What happens when electric cars are sold in really large numbers? Just when will we double or triple our generating capacity? I don't see people lining up to have coal-fired or nuclear generating stations built in their backyards. BTW, China has a monopoly on materials for battery production. Let that sink in. To the manufacturers and their engineers, I give them all A+'s. They are implementing, with success, the whimsical dreams of some bloviating governmental bureaucrat, owned by the Chinese, who is worrying about a crisis that doesn't exist. I could go on for about as long as it takes to charge an electric car, but...
@nsbioy3 жыл бұрын
@@dannoyes4493 You describe the problem well. The current ICE driving is not sustainable so something has to be done. Business alone can not solve this problem because a giant leap is needed that is too large for market forces alone. Only the government can do so: same applies for large initiatives like interstate building, medical research, space exploration. No private company has been able or will be able to pull any of it without financial and logistical support from the Government. So you are right, the timing and the exact details might not be ideal, but it is better than to do nothing and letting the market figure it out. The market won't. And yeah, EVs have problems today. The hope is the vehicles themselves and infrastructure will become better. Gasoline took a long while to become common, too, so the history is poised to repeat itself. And current batteries: technology is improving rapidly. And China is not the only source of rare metals. Afghanistan seem to have almost as much if not more of those. The geopolitical landscape will be changing and changing a lot. The current oil producers will have to change or lose their wealth and new players will be emerging probably within our lifetimes.

@@R56Cooper The answer to that question is complicated. A number of court cases have held that VW cannot refuse a warranty claim unless an issue arises directly from the modification of associated with a third party tune. As far as I know, that is simply not the case for a Stage I APR tune. However, that doesn't mean that a particular dealer (and VW) wouldn't try to refuse a warranty claim. And most of us don't want to go to court to force a resolution of the issue. And it's worth noting that if a VW such as a GTI or Golf R has a manual transmission it's entirely possible to shorten the clutch life of the vehicle. That doesn't happen with a DSG. However, there are alternatives. First, some VW dealers (mine included) are "tuner friendly" and some even offer a Stage 1 tune. It's worth asking about the dealer's attitude when purchasing a vehicle. Second, APR offers a Stage 1+ tune for a few hundred dollars more than a Stage 1 tune that duplicates the features of a VW factory warranty. With the Stage 1+ warranty you can go to any service facility including a dealer and have the cost of a warranty repair covered.

I think this car more directly competes with the BMW 4 series GC (which I own) but I always thought they look great. I considered the Arteon when I was shopping for my F36. But the F36 was cheaper at the time.

Wow, hope no one is paying sticker for this. You can get the Audi A5 Sportback for that price. I haven't driven this, but did test drive the A5 and S5. The standard engine is lacking in power, you will notice it. I ended up with the S5 and even with that, putting the car in sport mode is night and day. Based on the specs, afraid the Arteon would be quite the lazy dog.

I had one as a rental and did about 450 miles in it. Comfy. Decent on gas. However, Trans programming annoyed me, never wanted to drop a gear, but rather 2 at a time. Base sound system was awful, like, searing almost. All of the black plastic was scratched and looked very dirty at only 12k miles. The haptic buttons kinda sucked, but you get used to it. Overall, I do like it, and I really don't care for VW. However, what they cost new is not a good value, just get an audi at that point.

VW sits is a difficulty position: a touch better than it's competition. But not quite up to the luxury standards of the next step up. Its a "hard sell" position.

not to sound like a commercial for vw but the reason I'm watching this vid is because the vw dealer nearest to me is doing a killer financing deal. is it normal in 2021 to get 0% on a 72mo?
